I haven’t even watched this yet and I feel a ray of hope. I’ve been thin my whole life but now I find myself gaining weight and it’s so discouraging. I’m 57 and feel as if this whole menopause business is trying to wreck me! Well done, Jennifer!

Thank you for sharing this. I started intermittent fasting (8 hour eating window) in January and lost 20 pounds. I started cheating here and there with guests, vacation, weekends, etc. and have gained about 5 back but it’s nice to know that I CAN lose weight when I need to because 1200 calories and working out regularly just wasn’t cutting it with thyroid and hormone issues. Now you’ve encouraged me try shortening my window and seeing what works. Overall I feel so much better and happy to hear your success story. Congrats! ❤

Guests, vacations and weekends definitely make things a bit more difficult. Jim is a big breakfast guy, and I would just sit there on a trip with my coffee and watch him schnarf down pancakes. A bit annoying to say the least! So, I'd open my window on some of those days and then just go back to my 3pm-7pm when I got back home. Within a couple days I was back on track! I'm glad to hear IF has been working for you! And you bet, thyroid and hormone issues are no joke! Battling those myself, too. 💖

Oh my gosh Jennifer… This is a God send…. that you are talking about this, for me!! I have always been insulin resistant and now I have just become type two diabetic. I also have lost 30 pounds. Just by really watching what I eat. It hasn’t helped a whole bunch but I need to lose another 50 pounds. And I am struggling!!😩😩 I’m going to finish listening to your video. Thank you so much for this!!! Sending big hugs!!! ~Gina💜

My husband (and I) have been doing IF (8 hrs) and eating low carb foods together for 6 mo. (He had just crossed into diabetes when we started). He has lost 25 lbs and moved to pre-diabetes (the goal is to move into NO diabetes of any kind). We are still doing it…it’s a lifestyle change. I did it with him because it was the only way it would work to keep him motivated, esp since he retired and we are together all the time. I lost around 5 lbs… but it was the 5 lbs I was NEVER able to lose and maintain. It’s been so easy and rewarding. I am so happy for you! Way to go.🤩 By the way… I had gestational diabetes too, so you reminded me I really need to stay on top of things! TY!

I did a version of what this is, in 2016. I went to Weimar Institute in Colfax, California, and participated in a program called Newstart. The Newstart acronym; Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air (fresh air), Rest, Trust. It is a faith based program, through the Seventh Day Adventist Church, but you dont have to belong to the church, to go. I was there for 18 days, which was the length of the program. I lost 9 pounds, and 3 inches. We only ate breakfast and lunch, our window was 8:30-2:30, then fasted . We ate a plant based diet. I had never felt better. Its hard to maintain with a family, though. Especially kids. But, Jennifer, watching this video, i have realized, i can do it again, with some tweaking of times and foods. Thank you so much for sharing. I really needed some encouragement today. Jennifer, you are beautiful, inside and out!! 💜❤️

I’ve been doing OMAD (one meal a day for a one hour window) for 5 years. I had 130 pounds to lose that I had struggled with for 20 years. A year and a half later I was the healthiest I had ever been in my whole life. And I also tell everyone, it’s the easiest thing I had ever done! This is when I eat, this is my food, this is my plan. Done. I’m so proud of you for owning your process and enjoying the journey! I’m happy for you. Fasting is a science based plan and it does work! Especially if you stay realistic, short term and long. Cheers to good health!

You are a heaven sent. Just 3 days ago, I started fasting. I’m 54 y/o and my weight started to slow creep up. I tried what I used to do before but it’s so frustrating that my old tricks doesn’t work anymore. I count calories, low carb, exercise, journaled everything and nothing! I want to just cry and give up. But I can’t because like you, I have gestational diabetes and my OB said the same thing to me. I will have full blown diabetes which my AIC is now at the top normal. My dad died at my age now for complications of diabetes. Your story gave me hope! Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing!

Yes! I started intermittent fasting too and am losing weight and feeling GREAT! Many days I do OMAD if my meal is large enough and I'm not hungry. My favorite is a 6 hour window because I may want a small snack/meal and then have my main large meal. Coffee in the mornings really help! I had 2 cups this morning and just ate about an hour ago. I also drink lots of water. I use zero sugar packets and lemons to flavor it most times. It is very doable and much easier than I really thought it would be. Congrats to you!! You look amazing but more importantly you're improving your health. I'm very happy for you!!! Edit: I had to come back and say I AGREE 100% that its the easiest diet I've ever done. The simplicity of eat/don't eat works for me because I'd usually stress over food, meals, options, calories, and on and on and on. Now, I don't do that. I only think about food once or twice a day and the rest of the day no mental strength is used on food. It truly is sustainable. I was never a big breakfast person anyway. So eating 12-6, 2-8 or even 4-5 works great for me!!! I love it!

Big congratulations Jennifer! I’ve always had this rule my whole adult life to not eat or drink anything but water or tea for 12 hours out of 24. So from 6 pm to 6 am I only drink water or tea. There are exceptions for special occasions but that’s been my general rule. As I get older weight creeps up on me if I’m too sedentary but I always see that as a good reminder to move more. I have a dedicated daily 30 minute yoga practice that helps me hold father time away too. You look fantastic!

I have just been completely fed up with all the medical issues I have when I am doing "all the right things" my whole life. (connective tissue disease, arthritis, hypothyroidism, gestational diabetes, elevated blood pressure...) When I learned that doing the time restricted eating helps so many of the body functions, it was something I needed to try! So really, it is an eating program that helps my body function better, with the added benefit of weight loss!

I think this is the most informative info I think I’ve ever heard about insulin resistance. I’ve struggled most of my life , tried a doz or more diets, they all work as long as you work them… however weight comes right back and more. Diet counselors all say eat less move more… and it sounds good but it takes my body ten times longer to loose than it did when I was younger and “ more daring” … now it’s about health like you said … not smaller clothes. Gestational diabetic during my second pregnancy clued my doc into that possibility in later years too. Sooo I’m going to get the book, and try this. I did notice you had lost but I rarely ask or comment on such things bc you were beautiful before you lost and I hate it when people say “ you look great! How much have you lost?” Like I was not looking great until I lost? Anyway thank you for this info… I hope you have found what works for your and your health💜🧡❤️

Hello Julie. I completely agree with everything you said! Sounds very similar to my situation. I really hope this "window" way of eating works for you. It's a bit of a mindset adjustment at first, but you get through that quickly. The book really helps explain how much better all body functions work when the body is not having to digest and process food all day from snacking. I think you will love it, and I wish you all the best! Let me know how it's going for you! 💖

Hi Jen I started "omad" April 1st and just reached my goal weight. I lost 42 pounds doing some days 20 hour fast, 22 hour fast, 18 hour fast. I find changing it up a bit keeps my body guessing. I also learned to try and open eating window with protein such as hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, slice of swiss and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, especially carbs. I find this the easiest to lose and Overcome insulin resistance. Good luck!

I totally agree with you Jennifer, I've been following this lifestyle (I don't call it a diet ever) and it definitely works. I think we simply eat too much, too often and our bodies are not growing up anymore. I also went to my doctor and nutritionist for advice, and they also put me on the BMI machine. Dr Jason Fung is a very good resource of information on IF. Things will change when we hit menopause though, so you just go with the flow and keep listening to your Dr's advice. Exercise is very important during this process. Weight bearing workouts, running, lifting etc are basic. for bone loss prevention. Thanks for sharing this very important information.

You can do it! You can!!! Start with a wider eating window if that helps you and close it down in one hour increments(if you feel you need or want to) until you find what works best for you nutritionally and for your lifestyle. 16:8 is really a good entry point since a lot of folks can easily miss one meal. I would caution, though, if you start with a wider window, try hard not to graze and snack. It’s easy to lose track of calories fats sodium etc… plus, grouping your food let’s your body find a resting insulin state in between. You can do it! We are cheering you on!

I just committed (not that you asked me, I realize). It just was another tool in my IF toolbox and I really just thought of it that way. And you get used to it…I’d rather have black coffee than no coffee! So we don’t skimp on the best beans and it’s a daily ritual we share each morning. Now I think nothing of it. If this really is and truly would a be a block to getting the IF lifestyle and mindset settled for you, have your window around when you have your coffee. And then later maybe you will be able mentally or physically to switch to black. This is all straightforward thinking I know, I’m not trying to sound like I’m pontificating or anything. I have a degree in nutrition and none of my past education taught me the joys and positive outcomes of fasting. I am completely self taught and it has changed my life. I was doing 18: 6 for years and even if it was healthy food, the scale did not move. However, the OMAD has been incredible. I am just like you, all or nothing and I have a huge amount of will power. This is fascinating and thank you for sharing your experiences! I have finally taken my weight seriously for the first time in 40 years and using the LoseIt app and intermittent fasting has really been revolutionary for me. As you say, it's got to be seen as a lifestyle change, not just a diet, and the intermittent fasting (I do 14 hours, 8pm-10am) is pretty much my norm anyway so it's been easy to maintain. Plus, it encourages me to think about better food choices. I'll take a look at that book and thank you for the recommendation!

I have been doing the same thing for a year and a half and have lost 10 kilos, or 20 pounds. Traditional diets do nothing but make me hungry and grumpy but this really works. I am diabetic so my doctor told me to do the 16/8 and no less because when I don’t eat for too long and am up and active I get dizziness, fuzzy vision and headaches and that’s not good. I find that eating hours of 11-7 work best for me. I love breakfast, so I have been also been following the old saying of “breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper. I am finding it really easy to stick too as not only have I lost weight, because I am not eating large, late dinners like I used to my digestion is a lot better and I am sleeping better. I actually get annoyed when circumstances make me eat later than usual because I know I will have an uncomfortable and disrupted night. I highly recommend it.

Thank you for sharing this Jennifer ❤️ I have been doing time restricted eating for 3 years now and it’s truly been the best thing for my health. For me it was not really about weight as I was slim but getting a perimenopause belly at 48 (51 now)and feeling bloated, always tired and having constant gastrointestinal issues. I also follow a low to moderately low carb diet during my eating window with treats when I want. I’m someone who can’t stop eating pasta or bread or crackers etc. so cutting these out on a daily basis helped me a lot. I vary my eating window to suit my week and I also follow people like Autumn Bates, Dr Becky Gillespie and Cynthia Thurlow. They offer great tips for women specifically because of our hormones and different stages of life that can affect fasting. This is truly a lifestyle for me and I tell everyone about it. My weight is always within a 5lb range, I have more energy and don’t need to work out tons like I did in my 20s and 30s to maintain. Have a great week ❤️

Hi Jennifer, how long did you do the 3pm - 7pm eating window when you first started? I’m excited to start this. It seems so doable!
@JustJennifer
@JustJennifer 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Leanne. When I first started, I did 11 am- 7pm. Found that to be "too easy" and pushed my eating window to between 1pm and 2pm - 7pm. When I saw the added benefit from that, I did 3pm-7pm from February to April. Currently, I live most days eating between 2pm - 7pm. I have a snack around 2 and then dinner and dessert. This is honestly the easiest "diet" to wrap my head around and implement. It's very doable, you can change it up if you have a lunch date, etc, and then go back to your regular schedule. You can eat normally every once in awhile, too. It works! Good luck and let me know how it goes for you.

This was very helpful. I've been experiencing the same thing you described and my results have been creeping up lately. I'm in the research process now, looking for a place to get a full evaluation. Do you remember what machine they used, ie. Fit3D, to do your body comp.? Would you share the name of the facility you went to? I've been thinking of going to Delnor Wellness center but I see a lot of other places that advertise Body Scanning but I can't find out much about them. Thank you!

Hello. Yes, the evaluation machines I used were the InBody and the Fit3D. I especially love the Fit3D. I first started working with my doctor when she was recommended to me by another doctor. She worked out of Delnor at the time, through Northwestern Medicine. Then she switched to her own practice in Warrenville, IL. She is now working with FormHealth. elizabethlowdenmd.com/

This was very interesting and I enjoyed watching this. CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss!!! I've tried intermittent fasting before. I was able to maintain it but never lost very much weight...mostly stayed right where I was. In September 2021, I got COVID (Delta) and it put my heart into A-Fib...which is what got me to the ER. I had absolutely NO upper respiratory issues, so the doctors were shocked that my COVID test came back positive. During the next few months, we tried 3 different meds to try to control the A-Fib...and while it would work part of the time, I would break out into A-Fib intermittently...which is exhausting. We even tried 2 cardioversions at the ER...zapped me 3 times each time, and nothing changed...soooo December 2021, I had a cardiac ablation...and that ended my A-Fib!!! Unfortunately, I gained 20 pounds or so...and it never came back off. :( Soooo...I did find out that my Vitamin D was deficient. it took months--and removal of my gallbladder--to get my Vitamin D back into normal levels...but still, the weight I had gained isn't budging! I have PCOS--I'm also now 65--so I got sent to an OB-Gyn who was CONVINCED that I was pre-diabetic to full-blown diabetic (PCOS can cause that) and I sweated bullets until I got the test results back. My A1C is 4.1, and my fasting insulin was 331...all perfect and FAR from diabetes levels. She also ordered a full thyroid panel and it was all in the normal ranges. I'm baffled, and frankly, so was she! (She was miffed about being completely wrong. It was funny to watch her.) At this point, all I can think is that the beta blockers they had me on, etc, caused the weight gain...but I have no clue how to get the weight off from here. My lab work indicates I'm the picture of health. If anyone has any experience that might help, I'd appreciate hearing it. I know, for myself, the only two ways I have been able to lose weight in the past is on Keto...or the hCG diet. I'm leaning towards Keto for now...real food with no extra costs...and perhaps resorting to hCG injections/diet down the road. Both put you into ketosis, and you can eat more food on keto than on the hCG diet.

If you try again double check your fiber and healthy fat intake. Plenty, a lot, of (preferably plants) fiber is really key. Combining your veggies and clean fats is ideal and should help. @JustJennifer
@JustJennifer 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, that situation is a bit of a struggle. What I would suggest is to do the 16:8 (16 hours no food: 8 hours food) plan to start with. That way you can eat your lunch at noon, and then you still have until 8pm to eat the rest of your daily food. If that works for you, then perhaps you could shorten your eating window to noon - 7pm, or noon - 6pm. It can still work wonders for you if you are just doing the 16:8. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Good luck!

I Kanori, I think it took until I realized that I need to have a smaller eating window...4-5 hrs a day only. I still find that that is the window I need for losing. I can now maintain my weight doing a 6 hour window. Also, getting over the immediate hunger and panic over not being able to grab something to eat whenever I wanted it, was rough at first. Once that settled down, and it will, things got way easier and I noticed a big change.

Hi Karin! Most people can maintain their weight loss doing an 8 hour eating window, such as 11-7. However, I am finding that that won't work for me. If I have that long of an eating window, I start gaining again. It seems that once I am at my target weight, I can maintain it by eating only from about 2-7.
