As an Aussie, I find this really interesting. It's good to be able to see sensible conversation that isn't heated and unreasonable. It was also good to hear a view from someone that has moved to the USA, and the media about guns that's exported to the rest of the world. Let's get some fundamental facts out there.. There are countries with strict gun laws with some of the highest violence and murder rates in the world. There are also countries with less strict gun laws and high levels of gun ownership and some of the lowest violence and murder rates in the world. Those facts prove that guns are not the problem. Also the fact that government and police will NEVER give up their guns tells you it's not about the guns themselves, it's certain people. And we know about the corruption in police and government. In the end, it's heavily armed people (government) telling its citizens that they should not or cannot own guns.. Which is hypocritical and not based on facts and statistics. Currently, the government is using "gun control" as a hot topic to divide people, buy votes, and play politics.. They blame violence and crime on legal gun owners and at the same time, violent criminals and murderers DO NOT follow gun laws, or any other laws.. That tells you that government either doesn't actually care about "public safety" or they are clueless on the root causes and solutions.. In my opinion, violence and murder are rooted in economical and financial issues which break down the family unit, cities, towns and communities in general and create mental health issues, addiction issues and abuse in the family unit which creates generational dysfunction. If you think about it, violence is mostly gang and organized crime related.. That's about money and power. Then there's domestic violence, but what do couples routinely fight about..?? Finances. Why do people decide to "check out early"..?? Mostly because of what they lack in life which is rooted in money.. There's depression and anxiety, but what causes that..?? It's the societal expectations, stereotypes and expectations on one's self created by others. And that's only scratching the surface of addressing the root causes. My opinion: banning guns does nothing to deter or prevent violent crime and murder, does nothing to protect people, and only infringes on the fundamental rights of the law abiding. One's right to self defense/defense of one's family/home/property, property rights, privacy rights, and the right to be free from unjust search and seizure. Laws only affect the law abiding.
@jimmymoua6 ай бұрын
Great conversation. Really like the open minds and viewpoints from many perspectives. Ya hit the main points. Too many circumstantial cases and nuances to be a simple one-all-be-all solution. Criminals by definition don't follow the law so any gun laws would only restrict law abiding citizens, leaving them more vulnerable to criminals when seconds count. Whats the saying; "When seconds count, police are only minutes away?" I conceal carry everywhere i go in my home state and other states that recognize and honor my ccw. Can't fathom the idea of my family and I's life and wellbeing being at the mercy of another person. When i visit family in a non-reciprocity state like CA, i feel so naked esp when visiting LA and SF, esp Oakland. The social culture out there is just different. My head was on a swivel more than usual. Criminals know you're less likely to be legally carrying and are more bold. I was fortunate my family out there were all licensed to carry so they had our backs.

Actually California is a castle doctrine state. And for the CCW guy, the reason his license got suspended is because the gun he was carrying wasn't the one he registered in the application since the original one was stolen (which he didn't report to his CCW issuing agency). Aside from the facts, needing to even register a CCW firearm in the first place is a dumb law anyways. And the fact he had his license revoked because of that dumb reason is even more stupid considering what had just happened. Getting a CCW in California is an extensive, lengthy, fuck fuck game kinda process that anyone who successfully gets one is way more trustworthy than some trigger happy patrol cop. Beyond filtering felons and an aptitude test, gun control has always been about disarming law abiding citizens for easier control.

Culturally, the US population has become more racist, more prejudice, more "act first, question later" type of mentally, from both the citizen's and the policing party. Too much corruption has built so much distrust and disconnect between government and populous that the laws which were originally suppose to be set by the people, for the people has turned into a political agenda, and who's rights intrudes into another's rights. It's all starting to make no sense, and people can see it more and more. The youth are growing up into a world where they distrust authority, they seek the thrill and challenge the rules. Things don't make sense anymore. Why is the media pushing this one narrative to fit their agenda? Because people who don't ever look for both sides, will always have their own bias towards what they like, and the media feeds off of this. They thrive from it. Why change the system if it looks "decent" on the surface.

Obviously people with mental problems shouldn't be allowed to have guns. But to me, rather than making big changes to gun laws, it seems one of our biggest issues is the school shootings. So I think they should step up the safety standards at the schools. Make metal detectors at all entrances/exits mandatory no matter the school or size, Have more security and officers present in every school. Let the teachers carry!! Like offer to pay staff extra if they take a training course and get licesnsed to carry and BOOM there's your extra security!! It's not the perfect plan(nothing is) but it's something....and I think making such changes can only be beneficial and couldn't hurt anything. I think each state(or either federally) should work to allocate the budget and do something.
