About immigrant insecurity-assimilation: my great grandparents came over from Denmark ~1912 and refused to teach any of their children Danish language or customs, they tried to lose their accents asap and completely blend in. The culture was pretty much eradicated besides a couple recipes that survived :(

Sounds Filipino. Lol! Seriously though just like what happened to your grandprents, I've noticed that my people are one of the very few Asian ethnicities in the west that don't speak their native language. 1 generation and the ability to speak any of the 129 Filipino languages is gone.

To me growing up filipino, I didn't like how nobody knew anything about us. I never felt like gross I'm Filipino all of this sucks. I always liked our culture and our food and all that, but I always felt like if the world was a movie then we were the extras. Only to grow up and realize, I was just a fuckin loner growing up in a predominantly Vietnamese and Indian neighborhood

This is so funny. I am Mexican American and when others of my kind pronounce things in Spanish all hardcore I kind of laugh. Because I know most of them didn’t shit in an out house or bathe in cold buckets of water like my cousins did and I had to on the few occasions. My rule of thumb is if I am speaking English, I will pronounce the Spanish/Mexican word the way an English only person would. Because I am speaking English. I am Mexican enough, my friends know it, I visit all the time, I think I am a native you know all that BS. But I was lucky enough to be born in America. And guess what baby, in America we speak American. That last sentence was joking but if you were my friend and knew the whole me you would understand. Funny enough my Filipino friends are the ones who have called me out for pronouncing Mexican words funny. And I’m like dude calm down, we both shouldn’t even be speaking in Hispanic words and we shouldn’t be Catholic because you know…but that’s another story.

I'm with Steve. Jackie Chan > Bruce Lee. As far as fashion goes, America is the last to adopt any fashion trends (even though the claim to be the fashion trend setters). It starts in Europe or Asia first (mainly Europe), and makes its way to America about 3-5 years later. Fila is making a bit of a comeback in America, but when i was in South Korea in 2018, a lot of kids were wearing Filas already. Just one small example.
