I had a chat to a mate who’s a Padi dive certified instructor (I might have got the nomenclature wrong) Anyway he explained to me the lengths he had to go to to dive to 70 metres on a wreck somewhere. It was unbelievable; pausing on the way up, three tanks he had to pick up etc etc. Anyway the point is no one needs more than 100m WR, because no one is going to go that deep. Let’s make and wear thinner, more comfortable diver watches. Enough hockey pucks.

Hey, 100m WR doesn't mean that you can dive to 100m. It's a bit weird but, 100m WR just means you can swims or snorkel just under the surface with it. If you're going to 100m which IS often professional diving, 300m WR is the way. 200m WR is for normal scuba diving or in this case, scuba diving navigation.

I really love the originality of the bi-directional countdown bezel. I normally look at how much time I have remaining, such as a parking meter. Set the bezel to the limit on the meter, and the watch will tell you how many minutes you have remaining to get back to the car. On a regular dive bezel, the bezel is set to zero at the beginning. You will know how many minutes have elapsed, but how many minutes remain? Did you pay for 20 minutes or 40 minutes? The countdown timer does not forget that detail.

Used to have a Pelagos LHD and while I loved it, the thickness led me to get rid of it. I was thinking of adding a BB58 to replace it.... Then my AD called to inform me my Submariner 124060 was ready for me to collect after a 4 month wait so I didn’t need a BB58 anymore 😅 3 weeks later, l got a call again offering me the Pelagos FXD - well what was supposed to do? The thinner case, fixed lugs, non Date and 4 liner was perfect for me so despite not having a bracelet, l didn’t care as l have the best bracelet with the Submariner. On my other watches, l wear it on straps and NATO’s anyway. So a Submariner 124060 and Pelagos FXD is the perfect combo, plus l also have a Seiko SKX custom as my beater.

Awesome review as always Jody! I agree that while this is a great variation on the most mighty Pelagos, it isn’t quite what I’d be looking for personally but that’s ok. After all, I imagine that similar to the two tone Rolex Explorer, the FXD isn’t meant to be your one and only Tudor, it’s ideal for the person who already has a Black Bay 58 or an original Pelagos, maybe they’ve got the Black Bay GMT or the Chrono too and they’re looking for another Tudor to add to their collection. The FXD is a perfect fit for that sort of role in a collection.

@garethsigrist87142 жыл бұрын
@Nigel Molesworth it wasn’t meant as a slight, just that any niggles someone might have with this watch are lessened when you look at it as a second or third watch where you might like to have a few points of difference to change things up. I used Tudor the brand as an example but it could be one of any number of brands in a collection and as you point out, this could absolutely be someone’s only Tudor or indeed their one and only watch if they so chose.

Definitely looks good with that blue and that titanium case. Although a watch in my collection i feel as though its equal to or better in some specifications, is my Sinn EZM 3F. Still 200m, bi-directional countdown bezel, less text on the dial, left handed crown, 2mm smaller case and 1mm thinner. Plus it has all of Sinn's admittedly proprietary tech, and normal spring bars to boot. (who to they think they are Bertucci?) Sinn's price has creeped up in recent years but still half the cost of this Tudor.

'French Navy' is a colour commonly used in fashion for… approximately this shade of blue. I suppose Tudor figured that for a Marine National-branded product they didn't need to specify that it was French Navy as opposed to Navy. When I was in the Canadian Army, the first line of Canadian Forces Dress Instructions was, 'Navy blue is a shade of black.'
@johnnyguitar66972 жыл бұрын
Great observation, Lynette. The darkest shades of blue would be Midnight / Oxford / Navy (darker to lighter), with French Navy being a shade lighter than the traditional / British Navy. I saw a picture a few years ago of the Admiral in Chief of the French Navy next to his US counterpart, and his uniform is clearly of a lighter, more vibrant hue of blue. I personally like my blazers and sports jackets to be in French Navy, it's a bit more youthful.

I'm not the first to comment on it, but seeing a t-shirt from the university I went to on my favorite Australia living Scottish watch reviewer was the last thing I expected to see. I won't ask how that made its way to the other side of the world to you, but I love it! As for the watch, I would love if they took 2 lines of text off the bottom, cut the regular Pelagos to 200m, and used that more muted blue. That would be my ideal Pelagos. Some people would want it slightly smaller, but I don't. I think it's perfectly sized for those of us with medium to large sized wrists.

completely disagee about the countdown bezel utility. in my experience, in everyday life, i find that it's significantly more frequent to know the time of an event (such as cooking something) needing timing, rather than having any kind of necessity or utility for knowing the duration of an event after it has completed, making a countdown bezel a much more practical complication than the often useless count-up that people try their hardest to "make it work" (just like my beloved chronographs...) anyway.... i'm getting one as soon as they release a 39-40mm version :) (which, at this rate, is never... as the MN tie-in was the perfect opportunity for downsizing under the pretext of history and provenance and what have you fables)

A great review Jodi. This is one of those models that you probably need to try on given the band options. I like the look of it and as you say the readability is very good as well. Personally I still prefer the standard model. I'm OK with the over engineered bracelet and on my 7" spindles it looks OK and is supremely comfortable. One of the reasons that I went for the LHD was that the name is in red text so at a glance it looks like it's shed a line. I'll not rule this version out though as I say It would need to be tried on the wrist.

Great video. Doesnt running a strap across the case back defeat the purpose of making the watch thinner? By the time you run the nato through it, it's thicker than before. Having FXD lugs abolished the flexibility of using a bracelet. I think case screws would be a winner here to make it a better watxh.
