Jody, I bought my husband’s wedding ring and a watch when we got married. I didn’t have a love of money 25 years ago so I was proud that I had saved up and was able to do that for him. Unfortunately I didn’t know back then much about watch brands. Thanks to folks like you, I can buy him a quality watch. Thanks to you, in particular, I now know quality for the money can come at many different price points. Thank you for great content as always.

Great to get some personal insight into the life of Jody. That Omega is certainly a under the radar stunner 👌 I guess one of the problems with Omega is there catalogue is so vast with many many home runs, it's hard to pick one to saddle up for life with.

Jody, I pick up the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for myself a few years ago, in the midnight blue (date at 3 O’clock) with the polish centre links, but knew that I also wanted to wear the watch on occasion on the blue leather strap. I did a bit of negotiating with the Omega boutique (Oxford Street London) and came away with a fantastic Omega and my “free” XL leather strap. The watch looks nice on the bracelet but I agreed it would look even better with brushed links vice the polished (centre links) but when I put it on the beautiful blue Omega leather strap it looks out of this world. A true keeper and one of the most versatile timepieces I have ever seen or owned (from the seaside, to casual, to a suit and tie, as well as a tuxedo) it is truly a one watch for all occasions.
@christophernewman28174 жыл бұрын
Possibly my favourite video of yours Jody. The thing I love most about watch collecting is how the watches interact and intersect with everyday life. Most of the time, they are on the wrist to be enjoyed, but sometimes they become part of a bigger event or are a formative element of something special (as this watch clearly was in your engagement). The special watch in my collection is the eminently more humble but no less loved, Seiko SND255P1 'Flightmaster' Blue Dial bought for me by my wife when I got my PhD. As you mentioned in the video, I think I may start the tradition of the 'Diamond Anniversary Black Bay'. Thanks again Jody - and best to Mrs JOMW.

Not the everyday watch review. I love it if the watch is not only for sell but the emotional part of someones life. Suddenly the watch makes more sense. But also without the pre history of your watch, the Aqua Terra is an incredible watch itself.

I bought my James Bond LE Aquaterra in 2015 as a bit of an impulse buy, saw it in the Goldsmiths shop window, walked in , was told it was their only piece, took 10 seconds to decide, yes I wanted it and have not looked back once or regretted it. It’s a keeper in the collection and the pleasure I get every time it goes on wrist is simply delightful.

Omega is my favorite brand as well, My Grandfather's Omega Geneve started this whole obsession for me. watching him wind it every morning on visits was hypnotizing. Polished middle links are the reason why I went for the first gen. model. And I did the right thing, the watch is awesome and it serves me as a daily wear/beater, but also for some more formal occasions. And I like the plain black dial, very understated but nevertheless beautiful. So, that's what I suggest to anyone : if you don't like the blingy parts of newer bracelets, just go for the older model, instead of hating or butchering the fine watch.

Having owned this watch (42mm) for almost ten years I can't help but agree with all your comments - the strap has been the most frustrating part of my relationship - I'm a NATO fan and have a drawer full of options, settling this month for a black leather strap which alternates with velcro on green webbing and a heavy recycled fire-hose strap with brass fittings, which has a thin strip behind the watch hence it all sits flush. As a surveyor, keen cyclist and motorcyclist who occasionally takes the kayak down the river I can't bring myself to wear a traditional bracelet or strap in case one of the pins fails or springs, in which instance the watch would be lost forever! Constantly pondering the Speedy, but since they're not waterproof I have reservations! Great review, glad you like the AT - mine is also a daily wear and has never, not ever let me down!! Best wishes, Daniel, York UK

Snap! I also received my Aqua Terra as an engagement present from my then fiancée (now my wife). We went to the Omega boutique in central London together where I chose the 38.5mm blue "Skyfall" 8500 (ref. 231.10.39.21.03.001), and I have been in love with it ever since. I wore it on my wedding day, despite it having been overtaken by a Rolex Sub 16600 that I picked up at a later date (was my grail watch at the time). Despite having strong competition in the collection (the sub has since been sold and various other models purchased) it's this piece that has cemented its place as a keeper. My version was released just before the polished centre links (which I also dislike) so aesthetically it's perfect in every area. I still think the AT is an underrated watch in lots of ways so it's always good to see it getting some profile. Enjoy yours and thanks for sharing the story :)

I've been wearing watches since grade school, and I remember on numerous occasions sitting in class bored, deliberately reflecting sunlight off my cheap watches onto things in the classroom or other kids. The engagement watch might be more common than you think. My father received one from my mother. My 2 uncles received them from their wives. Now this was in Pakistan and here I am in Canada now. I explained the “tradition” to my fiancé at the time and while she was skeptical, on the day a year after the engagement...she did “propose” to me with a watch as well. Now I’ve spread the watch bug to my brothers-in-law and I’m very happy to see the tradition spreading a bit and one of them recently got engaged and has a Seiko cocktail from his fiancé :)

Thank you for sharing mate. Beautiful story, complete with a couple of "chicanes", & a beautiful watch.... However, you've placed me in a dilemma - I inherited some money from my mum and want to treat myself to a nice watch as I'm 50 in September & had it down to to two (like yourself, it had to be Omega) the sm300 (the '57 looking one) or a new blue smp (ceramic wavy dial)... So I've just got back (literally) from a 60 mile round trip to nearest AD- on my bike (Royal Enfield GT cafe racer) to check them out. Was all about the wavy blue dial, nothing came close... Until I spotted the AT.. Trying to put it out of my mind all the ride home, only to find you've posted this 😅👍🏻 Cheers mate.
