how wide does that tunnel need to be? the open position of the jaw looks quite large at 1:56
@JustPlainCommonSense6 жыл бұрын
a mole tunnel is usually about as wide as two fingers side by side and a gopher tunnel is about as wide as three fingers side by side.

When my cinch traps dont work i call in a airstrike, f4 phatoms with napalm. I have caught 100s of gophers and moles with these in the last 3 years. This year they have got educated or i am doing something wrong. Not sure whats up.

I don't know. Maybe the traps need a tune up, lube or adjustment.

The openings on my traps aren't as wide as yours. I think this is why I've had several misses. Do I need to get larger traps?

The size of the tunnel will dictate what size trap you need. As my general rule, if the tunnel was two fingers wide I used mole traps. If it was three fingers wide, I'd use a gopher size trap.

I'll give that a try. The holes in my back yard are at least three fingers wide. Many times, wider than my hori hori knife. Hopefully I get a hit in the next few days.

If its that large, I'd say you are dealing with a gopher. Set a trap at every mound hole.

I honestly haven't done any gopher research. Do they exhibit some of the same behaviors as moles? What's happening with my traps is that dirt is getting tossed back onto the trap vs getting a hit.

I thought I did a video on how to trap those things but I didn't see it. When you open up the vertical tunnel under the mound, place the jaws of the trap inside the tunnel. Use a stiff wire of landscaping flag to pin the base of the trap so it won;t move outward. Place some loose grass over the hole to block the light but it will allow air to flow. When the gopher feels a breeze in the tunnel it will try to block the vertical tunnel. No trap works 100% of the time; that's why you need to place traps at every mound. I once had a gopher set off nearly every trap in the yard but get caught on the last one! All that happened within minutes of me setting all the traps in his holes. Good luck!

It is the most effective mole trap I've ever used. It wiped out the moles in a 3 acre property in East Texas a few years ago. Amazon has them
