Just because they've been progressive, that doesn't make them Progressive (yes, the capitalisation makes all the difference,) and just because a character is black, a woman, gay, trans, etc., it doesn't guarantee that they'll be accepted by these kinds of Twitter freaks as long as they're being actually interesting characters instead of espousing lectures about how straight white cis men are Satan himself. You can have a character in media be non-white, female, gay or transgender and when put into the right creator's hands, they can be turned into something great; but these kinds of people we see beating comic book and cartoon fans over the head repeated with "Unless you agree with me, you're a bad person!" all the time don't care about making a good product everyone can enjoy, they only care what gets them Twitter likes, even when the people they've been pandering to don't actually support their work outside of virtual back-patting without actually spending a dime on them.

I grew up on spawn, blade, Goliath Gabriel Jones, storm , cyborg and stalker and roadblock from gi Joe. Not to mention a great run with Rhodey taking over the iron man suit while Tony stark battled alchol. But according to this article all that time I was reading a racist medium which was infesting their poison on the youth of America. That's probably because in the mind of SJWs, racism is the worst crime ever and it's entirely unforgivable. To bring it into perspective in 2015 Hulk Hogan got caught saying the gamer word in private (He even says "If you are a hard working black person then I love you"), since then Hogan has apologized multiple times, apologized to the roster and more than made up for it. SJWs on Twitter still act like he's Hitler anytime WWE brings him up. Meanwhile in 2002 Stone Cold roided out one night and smacked his wife around and the Twitter weirdos have crickets whenever he's brought up. SJWs basically think saying a no-no word is worse than domestic violence (Personally I think both of them made a mistake but have grown and moved on and shouldn't be held to their past sins anymore) In the mind of SJWs, if you were a racist or even had any racist thoughts, you are unredemable, you are unsavable, you are lost. It's not about "Let's get this Klansman to reject his ways" to them it's about "Let's bully this kid who said the gamer word when he was 6 and didn't even know it was bad into suicide".

And thank you for bringing up the Morlocks!!! Geez!!
@Kewryn3 жыл бұрын
I dunno; Blood Syndicate always was set on characters being of particular culture to me... the whole tagline of the series was "it's not a team; it's a gang", but I think that is how the story - given the setup - should be and even felt particularly intrusive. Than again I didn't like Blood Syndicate all that much, since it often felt like the characters were left unexplored... I mean did we ever got some real inside into DMZ? From what I recall we only knew he was an alien, we never even got to know what the heck was he swinging that lightball for ^^' Still I concur that most of the time McDuffy's stories didn't feel like they centered on race.
@adrianchatman57343 жыл бұрын
@@Kewryn agreed, it was gangbangers with super powers, it was subversive and awesome at first. They were antiheroes but in the later issues it kind of devolved imo. They kind of hinted at DMZs origin in the ICON crossover with the Syndicate but yeah, it was really unexplored. They did a good job with fleshing out the other characters like Wise Son, Fade and Boogeyman though.

@@adrianchatman5734 perhaps ironically, I never like Boogeyman much (though he was the only white character in the series, as I remember and I'm "white" myself), but yeah - Fade's story arc was actually interesting and I'm glad he was one of the characters that got explored. I think my personal favorite from the Syndicate would be Tech-9 and it's a shame he was killed off so early :( I also recall the Icon crossover you mention; I think it is from there that I learned DMZ was an alien, since I don't recall Blood Syndicate itself making a mention like that ^^'
@adrianchatman57343 жыл бұрын
@@Kewryn I agree, they could've spent more time fleshing out the rest of the Syndicate. Like they also did a good job with Flashback and did ok with Masquerade. But what about Aquamaria, or Oro? And Third Rail was criminally not fleshed out lol!
@Kewryn3 жыл бұрын
@@adrianchatman5734 honestly I tend to forget Oro even was part of the story; if I recall his actual time in the Syndicate was brief and he was not memorable at all. Aquamaria stood out, but mostly because she didn't speak English (I basically never knew what the heck she was saying ^^'), which in hindsight kinda feels like an excuses so that the writers wouldn't need to develop her. And it is a shame, because she seemed like an interesting character on the surface. Third Rail at least was a series mainstay, but for all his time his was virtually defined only by his relationship with Brickhouse (much like Brickhouse herself, though at least they gave her the whole "I'm ugly" subplot... which wasn't handled well x.x). Overall it's actually a shame, because Blood Syndicate had a fairly unique premise in the world of superpowered teams and some characters had a lot of potential, which is true for much of Milestone, but only Static truly realized that potential in my opinion

JSG: How many times do I have to teach you this lesson old man?!
@chickensoupboi3 жыл бұрын
On one hand, yes in the early 40's during WWII and some other occasions, there actually was some unapologetically racist imagery/propaganda pertaining primarily to Batman, Superman, and Captain America. On the other hand, comics are arguably one of the most liberal forms of entertainment media. X-Men are an obvious example with the mutants being a pseudo-allegory for civil rights with the X-Men and Brotherhood acting as the different sides of the civil rights spectrum as moderates and extremists respectively. Grant Morrison's incredible run on Animal Man had themes of veganism and animal rights before it was cool or mainstream. Many non-white characters like Cyborg, Bronze Tiger, Katana, Renee Montoya, Cassandra Cain, John Stewart, Black Adam, Ra's Al Ghul, etc. (Can you tell I'm a DC fanboy yet?) weren't solely defined on the basis of race but were developed into fan-favorites that had legitimate humanity and depth to them. Comics are, have been, and always will be a very progressive medium, but the state it's in now is ridiculous, where race is somehow the only defining factor of a character rather than who they are (with a few notable exceptions like the recently introduced Tim Fox and Yara Flor from Future State, who I actually really liked). Compare that to now with Ironheart, who's only somewhat redeeming factor is the fact she's a black woman and nothing else, cause Brian Michael Bendis is overrated as shit. Modern woke comics are just making new skin colors of already existing characters, defining and dehumanizing them solely on that basis. They are not adding anything of legitimate importance and have made it clear they don't care about people of color, they just care about the color. If that isn't racist, I dunno what is.

You know it's bad when, on cue, JSG and I literally cracked up laughing at the same time 😭😂 but forreal it's an odd thing. 9:51 it's depressing to know they turned one of my favourite heroes into a sociopath. I mean would it have been hard to write "killing isn't the answer" when vergil attacked the other kid. Noooo they have to make him look like a psycho whose more worried about his public image than the law. It reads like something out of American psycho.

I'm pissed at what they did to Virgil! I might not have read the comic but I remember the show and I loved the show back then and even now

When Stan Lee and Jack Kirby co-created Black Panther they created a character that would pass the test of time. Today's black creators are to hung up on race issues and less on the story and characters they create.

“Marvel, what are you writing?” “Ironheart, a story about a girl who steals the suit of an awesome superhero and starts using it to fight crime.” “Uhhh...DC?” “Batwoman!” “Does she steal her suit too?” “OMG how did you know?”

Christopher Priest's Black Panther 90s run further built upon the character.

Al there doing is making it harder for writers with talent to break into the industry because everyone will just think. "Oh theres a poc or a women on the cover or who wrote the book its woke nonsense I'm not gonna read it"

I have said this before and gotten into trouble. If you want to bring people to your cause, don't piss them off.

Frankly, I'd love to read stories based in Africa or with African roots, but a good story is usually enjoyed by people of all backgrounds. Of course, it's fine to have a target audience but you should always welcome fans that don't fit outside that demographic. Hell, when I told her at a convention that I haven't read one of her works but I'm a big fan of sci-fi, Nnedi Okorafor said to me that she loves it when fans of sci-fi read her work for the first time. And let's not forget one of my favorite novels, Things Fall Apart. It was about colonization in the last third but it was a good story too.

Hey, a shout out to Englentine! I love your videos JSG but the fact you are a part of a community here on You Tube and do guest appearances on podcasts is what I appreciate even more. You are even funnier unscripted/unedited.

I love watching all of your videos, but have always had a hard time reading comics in general (something I'm slowly trying to change). I did, however LOVE the comic shows, and hearing you talking about the changes to Static make me want to cry. It was and is one of my absolute favorite shows.
