Try being the fan that was hoping for the return of Aboloth( hinted in the Clone Wars Celestial arc), heard that George wanted the Yuzong Vong to be canon( one of the planned arcs of season 7 the fact its planned means it was Lucas approved) and after Malachore was mentioned in Clone Wars was hoping if we'd know of Revan, the Exile and Kriea. And Disney in Rebels sterilized Malachore changing it from a planet ravaged by Intradictor ships with so much pain and agony that force sensitives around the planet died on the spot or lost their connection to the force crippling them. Said event also made the republic lose almost all technologies revolving around Intradictors because it was so horrifying. Instead the planet was just one of many battles between Jedi and Sith around a force draining weapon( how many was it this time).

I don't mind OP characters, but an OP character without training is bullshit. I mean even Galen Marek went through at least 20-30 years of secret tutelage under Vader. I mean yeah, he had all that power from the start, but without training he couldn't touch but a tiny fraction of it.
@FrankCastle-tq9bz4 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are ways to create characters that are incredibly powerful for the setting but they need to be *characters* first - an OP character like Dr. Manhattan in the "Watchmen" universe, for example, attained his abilities as the result of a freak accident and the attainment of said abilities radically altered his perception of the world in such a way that he can't relate to the average person anymore (resulting in him becoming rather passive towards events transpiring around him - eventually suffering a mental breakdown before one of his former colleagues convinces him to value life again). This is how an OP character is done properly within the context of a dark and gritty drama - the likes of Kathleen Kennedy should have made notes on this character before writing the Amazing Wonder Rey...
@Random_Chiroptera4 жыл бұрын
@@FrankCastle-tq9bz I think the Galen Marek example fits a dark gritty backstory. Sure, we don't get to see much of it, but we know he witnesses Vader killing the only person Galen knew as family, and all his friends, then he become a secret apprentice the Sith way starting as a small child.

@@TheJoker-qo4fg Then somebody in graphic design at Lucasarts doesn't understand how puberty works. However, 13 years of that kind of training plus the trauma of everything that happened leading up to meeting Vader. That's not exactly rainbows and unicorns. That kid went through 13 years of Hell to develop that much that fast, and already suffering traumatic events that most adult soldiers have a hard time coping with. You can correct my guesswork, which wasn't too far off to begin with, all you like, but if you're attempting to dispute him as a valid example of an OP character who had to earn it, you're going to have to do better than some pretentious "Well actually...."

Here’s a social experiment 1. Create a very Star Wars-like movie, with a big adventure and the hero’s journey and all that 2. Make the main protagonist male: this is the key component to this whole thing 3. Make him insanely overpowered. In fact, within the first ten minutes of the film, show off that he can use a sword like a master with years of training, despite previously being a rancher. 4. Introduce the big bad guy of the film 5. Continuing the hero’s quest, make the protagonist meet an old wise man... then disregarding him completely 6. Have him also shown off to be an ace pilot 7. Halfway into the movie, make sure he’s already near the enemy’s location, fighting off henchman after henchman like he’s trained martial arts under Shaolin Monks for decades 9. To draw out the time, be sure to show off his ninja levels of stealth, and his professional hacking skills 8. Have him fight and defeat the big bad guy of the film with little to no effort whatsoever, despite being a rancher at the beginning of the film. 9. Release the film to the public Side note: Be sure to ignore any essence of a character arc or character depth as a whole. That just makes our main character take longer to show off how incredibly powerful he is at everything. *Now watch how the audience reacts to your main character*

True. I saw a string of back and forth between some feminist and a logical person about WHY captain marvel was such a bad movie and it came down to the logical person making a sound argument and the feminist tripping over their own points. In my opinion(and many others), captain marvel has the same issues the star wars sequel trilogy has. 1. All of these movies focus too much on female empowerment and pander to the people demanding it, rather than making a good movie. 2. The main characters (Ray and carol danvers) are overpowered with nothing to challenge them. It's no wonder that wonder woman was a much much better movie about feminism since a lot of "Feminists" don't realize that feminism isn't about being better than men; It's about being equal to men. That's why the original star wars trilogy was so good, since princess Leia needed obi-wan as much as the other male characters needing Princess Leia. That's how you write female empowerment with out it being boring or forced." 3. all of these films boost the female characters while dumbing down the male characters. In the case of the damsel in distress cliche, it's a male fantasy to save a female. Because we want to feel useful to the love of our life. That however is NOT dumbing female characters down. it IS dumbing a male character down when you make them bumbling idiots with no way to help while a "feminist" talks down to you. the reason why the damsel in distress scenario works is because deep down, you know that while the female character needs saving from a physical attack, the male character needs emotional support and love from the female character and that the man goes through hell and back for the woman he loves. That codependency is why a good film doesn't need to pander or to dumb characters down to "empower" any one gender." As previously shown time and time again, you can have good movies/shows/games with a strong female lead for example, wonder woman, star wars the animated series with Ahsoka tano, kill bill and the list goes on." Nowadays, feminism is less about being equal to men but rather being superior to men. those are just my (long ass) thoughts. What do you think?

Also, if you want badass women, look at Ahsoka, look at Leia, look at Padme, hell, Satine Kryze too when we're at it! And her sister! What about Ventress! Those are some of the most badass women i've ever seen! Rey simply doesn't fit in that category. Btw, i'd much rather have seen Finn being the Jedi. He's taken on Kylo Ren, and landed a hit (He was a stormtrooper, so he did have some training). I loved the Finn/Poe dynamic too, shoulda focused more on that

After she dies in his arms, Finn takes the lightsaber and fights Kylo Ren, only to barely escape with his life. And the rest of the franchise after that is Finn’s training to become a Jedi as he endure the battle between the Dark side that wants to kill Kylo REN for murdering his friend and the Light side that trains him to be the Jedi Rey would want him to be.

Just gonna throw this out there- as a lady nerd, I actively avoid 99% of media that features a woman because it's almost always feminist garbage, woke, and completely unrealistic. I can count female leads I like on one hand with fingers to spare- but their strength was not because they were "just as strong or stronger than men" but because they embraced what made them different from men. Sorry- but the average man beat up the best female every time. Look at the fighting between "trans" women and actual women- we're not built for the same things as men. The problem with this new wave of story telling is the story tellers are far too invested in a narrative than reality- and for most ladies like myself (those who aren't running around with blue hair screaming about the sins of white men) it's patronizing.

Rey is very flat in her personality, to the point of being faulty: She grows up on Jakku where the rule is: Everybody for themselves. And yet she trusts some random ex stormtrooper and a SMUGGLER of all people (yes yes it's Han, but how could she know?). Rey is not a properly fleshed out character, if she had gotten the time to grow as Ashoka did, we might've liked her better. As she would be a far more complete character. Also, no, it's not realistic that she can just use all those force abilities, the best jedi needed years if not DECADES of training. There are so many Jedi woman that have less time to grow on you that are still more fleshed out! So conclusion, is Rey someone who could've been great? The answer is a resounding NO! Not with the people who have made her up.

No, a knife has a point *and use.* Feminists don't have a point *and has literally no use.* Feminists are more akin towards diseases now. They infect and hurt you. Who they infect? Women. Who they hurt? Men. Another key difference is just how useful the knife is. You can use it for: Cooking, Killing, Slicing (Cutting cake etc) and more. Feminists do the following: Waste time, Attempt to violate male human rights, Sexist, (technically) racist, Annoy, Destroy. Infact, diseases are more better just because it can be used to cure people from other disease. (I forgot what its called but I heard somewhere if you have a certain disease, the doctors give you another to give you a fever which kills off the first disease then cures you of the second.)

Dad loved Star Wars, and so my brothers and I grew up with it, loving it. I loved the stories around Luke and Han, not just the ones around Leia. My brothers and I played Jedi and I was equal to them. The latest trilogy (used loosely because it doesn't feel like a complete story) just tore down everything I grew up with and I hate it. I don't like Rey and that makes me sad because I do like Daisy Ridley. I thought there was real potential there that was completely mishandled. In addition, I had to watch my brothers and my dad called sexist because they didn't like it. They didn't like it for the same reasons I didn't like it, but because they've got different reproductive parts than me, they're suddenly misogynistic? It makes no sense to me as they've never been sexist. So I am now not buying Star Wars. It doesn't appeal to me anymore because it alienated me, and emotionally bullied my family. "It wasn't made for you!" WHO THE HELL ELSE WAS IT MADE FOR!? Disney must come to terms with the fact that the only reason why Star Wars has remained profitable and relevant after lackluster prequels and decade-long hiatuses is because of all the middle-aged, Jeff Albertson-esque fans that have been financially supporting this franchise for the last 42 years. That may be a tough pill to swallow for a company pandering to minorities and women, but it's reality. It's the geeks that buy the action figures, and collect the comics, and play the video games are the ones that have been keeping this franchise alive all these years, and Disney has alienated them.
