Just passed my oral board wanted to pass along helpful Information because I needed it when I was preparing. #1. Tell me about yourself and why you want to work for this department. That starts the interview off, have something short but effective to say here. A few other situational questions involving stress, integrity, deadly force. It is nerve wrecking sitting across from 3 high ranking officers but if you have any life experience use it to your advantage and make it fit the questions.

Just passed mine today. They were very impressed. Just like you stated.... 1. Tell us about yourself? 2. What motivates your day to day routine? 3. What are your strengths and weaknesses? 4. Where do you see yourself within this organization? 5. What made you choose this Sheriffs office? 6. Are you prepared to take a military-style Police boot camp? They will be yelling and screaming at you and you may get punished for others doing something wrong. 7. What is the biggest obstacle in your life and how did you overcome it. 8. What 1 person from all your jobs do you consider the best leader you have had and why. 9. Explain your work ethic. 10.Why should we chose you? 11. Is there anything you would like to add to the table. My panel was in front of 7 High ranked Sheriff Deputies and 2 HR personnel. The key is to be confident with all your answers and show off the real you!

I just came back from my Oral Board. I did lots of studying and note taking from others and especially, from you sir! I want to thank you for creating this helpful video. I rehearsed and left the 3 panel officers with a smile plus, we will be in touch soon, after being escorted out the to the doorway. Tell us a little about yourself? This question is the ice breaker to get to know you and set the tone. Weakness, Strengths you are going to get them both. Personal questions are relatively first off, to get to know you. Next the scenario-based questions, or dynamic questions. Study for these, for the most part and get info over the agency you've applied to. Other than that keep calm make them answers short and sweet. Good luck ya'll .

You should absolutely right your mom or anyone else a ticket for going 80 in a 25. If you say no that shows your bias. 80 in a 25 is extremely reckless and could easily result in the death of a bystander.
@greenmonkey7305
@greenmonkey7305 14 күн бұрын
Bias is negated due to the allowance of discretion by police. I’m not a police officer, I am a prosecutor but if I choose to write you a ticket for one thing and let 25 other people go for the same thing that you did it is 100% legal and I do not have to explain why I they did it. I was a prosecutor when I started doing this for a Municiple Court and during July 4 one year a single person received a fireworks ticket as about 400 other people were let go. This guy got the ticket because he was an @$$hole and was mouthy to the officer . He paid for a $700 lawyer to drop the $500 ticket and fight in court and he still lost. Determining “bias” is for the courts , not for your opinion being a member of the public.

Great video, one question for now: Why would I not write my mother a ticket if she was being a hazard to herself and the community that I have given an oath to protect? My initial response was yes, I would write my mother a ticket if she was going 80 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. I would think that’s a school or work zone and that’s insanely dangerous, right? Mind you my mother is about 80 years of age and not a speedster, but poor eyesight, so super dangerous for her to speed. So please help me understand the reasoning by the “no” to giving her a ticket. Also, isn’t that a felony?
@Justthatofficer
@Justthatofficer Жыл бұрын
Definitely not a felony. It’s an honesty question as most people wouldn’t write their own mother a ticket unless they disliked her for some reason. If it was something extremely dangerous, well that can change the situation. They are looking for honesty here not the answer you think they want to hear. In the end yes and no are both correct as long as you have good reason to back up each answer.

Is there any way to prepare for the scenario based part? I struggled with this as I wasn't sure how to answer in my first law enforcement interview a few months ago. I have a second one coming up soon and just trying to better prepare.

I do have a big question, so..my social media accounts (I don't post anymore but did when I was younger, and i've absolutely grown as a person since them.) Has some very risky and edgy things on there. Racist memes, toilet humor, just overall degeneracy....If they grill me for that, I feel like i'm screwed regardless of my answers, i've found Christ and have bettered myself in so many ways, i've become a father, and my entire worldview has changed...But I desperately want to achieve a law enforcement position..Maybe i'm paranoid, but i'm so terrified to apply..

Wait, so law enforcement officers aren't above the law, but you shouldn't write your mom a ticket? Explain please, because it sounds like you are contradicting yourself, and are just trying to say whatever you think the interviewer wants you to say.
@Justthatofficer
@Justthatofficer 16 сағат бұрын
All comes down to discretion. They are just looking for honesty. If you pulled your mother over for a minor infraction would you really write the ticket if you have discretion not to? Some people would and they should explain why. We don’t write every citizen we pull over.
@CompoundingTime
@CompoundingTime 15 сағат бұрын
@@Justthatofficer I agree that a warning is often the way to go, but if they craft the example in a more extreme manner, at a certain point a ticket is more than warranted. That is where blanket advice can get you in trouble.

Not interested at this time leaves the applicant with obvious confusion, the applicant has zero knowledge or assumption where exactly their answer wasn't liked, the applicant could be very confidant that the interview went well how ever not at least having an idea where to improve or which of the three personally didn't care for this particular applicant, am I wrong? It's like the polly, for any undesclosed reason the applicant could be denied, I'm not exactly sure if the legality of desclosing results but unable to inquire the results don't exactly sound legal

On a personal level I'd arrest my mom lol rough childhood. But my answer would be yes regardless, if anyone is endangering the community because they think they can get away with it they deserve a citation. That's just my opinion hopefully I don't fail because of that.

The one about writing your mom a ticket, was that sarcasm? Or would that actually be the right answer? I attended a prep class a few weeks ago and one of the questions on the practice exam was would you ever arrest your partner if they were in the wrong? And the answer we were told to choose was yes. I would just assume this would be the same for family members.
