I do think I'm better, I do think most others are bad people, and I do think we shouldn't mix. I think that's a lot of people and it's literally a part of our pattern recognition systems to spot predators for our survival. Christoph actually speaks fluent English, French and German but only a little Italian, Inglorious Basterds almost never got made because they could not fill the role of Landa, then along came Christoph. That is why the opening scene is so powerful, the just perfect swap from French to English, then Back from English to French.

In France and Germany, it's not so rare anymore to have people fluent in these languages. People with immigration background even speak a fourth language.
@maarius030
@maarius030 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I’m from Germany and anyone learns English in school for atleast 8 years. Most Germans can speak English and many many fluently. But in Germany we don’t only learn one foreign language but at least two (there’s the option to learn even more). It’s not mandatory to take French as your 2nd foreign language but most do (there’s also the option to choose Latin, Spain or other languages depending on your school. Then you learn this 2nd foreign language for at least 4 years as well. If you’re from an immigrant family it’s very likely (almost guaranteed) that you speak 3 language (German, English and the language of his/her parents) and you know at least a little French. A girl from my former school class has Vietnamese parents and speaks German, English, French and Vietnamese fluently (like really fluently) and knew enough Korean to communicate properly. I feel like people from the US or UK don’t really understand how normal it is for other to speak at least 2 languages fluently. (I looked up for statistics about Germany and about 65% Germans speak English and about 25% speak English perfectly fluent. I didn’t find good statistics about the french language but about 20% Germans speak french)

Other little details of that opening scene. When Landa grabs the daughter's wrist and asks her for the milk, some believe he was checking her pulse in that moment (if true, makes it even scarier how sharp he is for clues). The other detail the father splashing himself before Landa meets him, was to hide any sweat he might have during his conversation, this way he appears already sweaty from working on the farm, when he likely would have sweat from the nerves. Anyway, great reaction!

@rawbones4117
@rawbones4117 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's that deep Landa grabbing the daughter by the wrist is a subtle show of power. It's a subtle act of disrespect but there's nothing the Father can do. The Germans are literally dominating the French this entire movie (and moment in actual history). They simply have to take it. It also helps with Landa's plan. The Father cracks because of the implication of danger towards his family. He knows if he defies then his whole family can be killed, or worse. The water bit is him washing himself. He had been working in the heat all day. He is unkempt and most likely stinks of hard labor. He is meeting with a distinguished, hostile Authority figure who he doesn't want to upset. Thus, he attempts to groom himself slightly. I'm sure you could also read into a symbolic meaning. He's washing himself before shaking hands with Evil perhaps? But the idea that he's washing himself to appear sweaty when he was already sweaty is... odd.
@SSD_Penumbra
@SSD_Penumbra Жыл бұрын
The even more obscure detail is in his meeting with Shoshanna. He orders cream for the strudel. Cream isn't Kosher in the jewish faith. He's testing her to see if she'll eat it, and when she doesn't, his suspicions are proven correct. If Aldo and Hammarsmark weren't present at the theatre, she would've been killed then and there.

"django" is tarantino´s fictive story about cleaning house from slavery, "basterds" is tarantino´s fictive story about cleaning house from nazis, "once upon" is tarantino´s fictive story about cleaning house from cultists, and in "pulp" he cleans house from torturers. he makes crystalclear what he despises.

My jaw dropped so many times just in awe of how good some of these scenes are. It’s almost like the most well thought out parts of a play all happened in succession and formed one of the most dramatic and tension building films of all time. Tarantino had been developing this story for a long time, since before Kill Bill. And when he decided to make a movie out of it, he almost was forced to stop becaause after seeing hundreds of actors he couldn't find a Landa. And then he met Christoph Waltz; the rest is history, as they say.

A little something about war, the unfortunate reality is that sometimes excessive brutality actually saves lives. Scaring the enemy into thinking they are up against men who don't care about the well-being of the enemy is sadistic on the surface, but can dissuade the enemy from fighting, and removes them as a threat. Killing an entire platoon of soldiers may prevent their whole battalion from fighting. As awful as it sounds, it's actually quite effective, as we've seen in Afghanistan.

Pulp fiction next…PLEASE!!! This is my favorite all-time movie, it really is his masterpiece and Tarintino himself felt that way about it at the time. And I agree at the end, the dentist had to die in Django for the happy ending and in this Shoshanna had to die for the happy ending, hints Revenge of the Giant Face. Once she died her spirit still lived through the smoke as her theater burned to the ground and she got what she wanted (as did we). Masterful film. Pulp Fiction is a must watch! Masterful in its own way, different to this and Django as it’s not a timepiece but still an incredible film. You’ll be in for a ride! ALSO: Tarintino was in this as the first dummy we see getting scalped at the beginning. He didn’t make an actual appearance in this movie.

Makes me happy for you. Been subscribed to the channel for a long time now, way back from the Mortal Kombat trailer reaction. You deserve your success. Your enthusiasm is fantastic and I appreciate how you say what comes to your mind at the moment and it's usually unfiltered. That's very refreshing with how everybody, everywhere in the world appears like they are walking on egg shells all the time about what they can say. Your commentary is very refreshing to someone who grew up in the 80s when people didn't get "participation" trophies for just showing up, and that was ok because we learned that dealing with failure and disappointment builds character. You constantly make me laugh and I've spit out whiskey several times because of some of the shit you say! Just fantastic!
