I'm pretty certain Metatron left heaven at the same as God. He is not an archangel but it is assumed that he is one of the very few to have seen His face. Some fans think him not knowing of Sam or Dean is a plothole. In retrospect, I don't agree. The archangels knew how the apocalypse would start/end and that Sam and Dean would be the vessels; lower angels did not, and Metatron's focus would have been on the tablets.

17:50 angels arent trying to take over the world, Naomi just wants the tablet to safe-keep it in Heaven Metatron said the _Archangels_ wanted to take over; he's been gone so long he doesnt know half the archangles are dead & the other half locked in the cage. (tho this is very much a retcon from s4-5 when the angels want the Apocalypse to happen so it will be Heaven on Earth/because they think it's God's will) Btw, no one else tried to close the gates of Hell because A.) No one had found the tablets yet B.) You need a prophet to read the tablets

I wasn't afraid of him and he was never intimidating but Metatron is a good villian though and Metatron and Dick Roman they are a step up from Eve that's for sure. Dick Roman Metatron and Raphael they are really "underrated" that's for sure. the only thing I didn't like about Eve being a Villian is she was so fucking weak. okay now normally this wouldn't be a complaint but it is because she was the main villian/bad guy in Supernatural season six. main bad guys at the end of a season "shouldn't" be that weak she died from a little phoenix ash on Dean's neck lame at least that was a very good season though. honestly though I think they should have made Raphael the main Villian in season six instead of Eve yeah he was killed but he wasn't easily defeated though.💯🔥🔥🔥🔥

Jared's phenomenal performance successfully overshadows the big plot holes in this episode. There was no build up or set up for demon blood to plot point, it felt like a resolved issue for Sam. Also some of the "memories" Sam recalls feel fake or like retcons, what with Dean saying in an earlier season they've never been to the Grand Canyon and given what we know about John I doubt he would've taken them, plus it feels like a stretch to say that deep down Sam always knew he was "tainted" when nothing else before this gave away any hints he felt that way and he's always been shown to be the more morally right of the brothers. I would've made more sense if instead they said that demon blood was the reason he broke up with Amelia, because even though he wasn't a hunter he didn't trust himself to be with her do to feeling "Impure". However, despite these complaints and poor setup the episode works because Jared is a grade A+ actor, that has been what's kept this show alive for over a decade, Jared and Jessen's acting, even when the writing faltered or didn't make sense, those were able to make it work.

The demon blood remarks aren't plot points they are character driven. Also they are not retconed feelings Sam's reaction to the word freak and his quest to be normal were all in the story since the pilot. Sam's remarks in this story just reveal more of why. Last Dean and the grand canyon. I'm guessing you have never had a convo with a parent or guardian that went like this. They ask why you didn't do something why you were little. They say you did. After a little conversation you start to remember bits and pieces. Chances are young Dean did not retain info about where he was in this memory but info about the funny farting donkey. After all he probably spent a lot of time in nature hunting with John. After all Sam never said it was a pleasure trip. They could have been hunting, learning lore from tribes native to the area or finding rare ingredients in order to kill a monster of the week
