After installing the 2.5 inch lift kit from Rough Country I ended up actually getting 3.75 inches in the front and 3.25 inches in the rear! Such a big difference from before. So glad I ended up going with this lift kit. Just enough lift without the hassle of having to do a lot of other modifications.

Wow! Looks like a CJ from the side. I think I’m gonna install this kit on my 87YJ. I don’t really want the extra lift, but this kid is so much cheaper and easier than finding all the OEM parts. And it’s probably a ride improvement over OEM. My yj looks super low

I know this is late, but YJ factory springs are supposed to be flat/no arch. Also, those Rancho shocks don't spring back, that's how they're designed.

Pretty late to the party on this one .. But you should just ditch those trac bars .. Leaf spring vehicles don't need them. doing this with my 95 made it ride so much better.

Looks killer hope you keep those white wagon wheels, once you put some bigger rubber on though she's going to be quite the dog without rearing.

Keeping the white wheels for sure! Looking into power steering, but not sure I can get much more power out of the stock engine, so will likely keep the tire size to 31s for now.

@@JUSTUSZILS power steering should be fairly easy to find at a junkyard, and if you're in Florida it should be pretty flat so the 31s won't be too bad. Just won't need to use 5th gear. Don't lug the engine these old school designs like to run a little bit up in the RPM range.

Nice job, did you have to shim the rear axle? About to do the same thing, I ordered a kit that came with two 2 deg shims for rear and curious about the shims or if they are required. Thanks for any advice!

I appreciate the video! I've been contemplating putting this lift on my YJ, but I've been trying to figure out if you can just install this lift and not have to worry about dropping the transfer case, messing with steering bump stops, relocating the brake lines, etc, yet still have a nice riding, drivable Jeep. How have things been for you this last month since you did it? Are you still running it with just the regular kit and not having any ride or drivability issues?
@JUSTUSZILS
@JUSTUSZILS Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, when I first installed the lift I started getting weird vibrations in the driveshaft when accelerating around 30mph. I put the transfer drop kit on it and it resolved that issue and drives great. I also got new ubolts that fit because I found out that ubolts are one-time use only. The rear track bar was causing the rear axle to be pulled slightly to the side since I didn’t use a relocation bracket, but I ended up just removing the rear track bar completely. No adjustments to bump stops or brake lines. I have videos on the track bar removal and transfer case drop kit too. VERY happy with how it drives now. Let me know if you have other questions I can help with

@@JUSTUSZILS I will have to check out your other videos on that. I'm just going to go based off of your experience. I've read every forum post I can find and watched any video I can find. There's a lot of "opinions" out there, but I trust the word of an every day guy with real world experience. I'm sure I'm going to have some more questions too. But I'll try to keep it to a minimum. I just appreciate you getting a guy on the right track!

@@mikeboley8488 of course. Happy to help. Pinion angle is a big topic of discussion when you change ride height. My pinion angle geometry isn’t perfect, but I didn’t want to lift the motor or adjust shims on the rear suspension to make that happen. Also since lowering the transfer case lessened the maximum angle enough to eliminate vibrations, so I’m not having to invest in a SYE at this time. I basically just use my YJ for short trips and don’t do any hardcore off-roading, so I feel like the solution I went with is cost effective and adequate for what I need it for. If you’re doing major off-roading, you would probably want to do all the above to get everything perfect so you’re not putting a ton of torque and tension on the driveshaft without more precise geometry.

@@JUSTUSZILS Mine will be just like yours. It's a Sunday driver, cruise to town on occasion and take the family on a drive every now and then. Definitely an asphalt warrior. That's why I'm looking for drivability more than anything.

@@mikeboley8488 in that case, the RC 2.5 lift kit and transfer case drop was enough to satisfy me. Major improvement in ride quality from original parts. It’s a little harder for my parents to get in now though, so just ordered some side steps.

I got the 2.5 kit from rough country for my 95 YJ. I started with the rear leaf spring. I got the old off but when I tried to mount the new one the guide bolt on the leaf spring was about 1 inch forward of the hole on the axel plate. I could not figure out how to get it to line up. Any suggestions?
