I absolutely love making edging. I quite often make them and make long pieces so that I can put them on the bottoms of cotton Victorian slips or I’ll make edging for white Muslin nightgowns. Thank you so much for doing the edgings and thank you to sweet Julie for donating the pattern books. What a wonderful gift. It helps watching you and being able to work right along with you. My next project is a lace trimmed corset and Victorian underpinnings. Thank you!!!😊❤

I just wish I could find all of my old patterns. I'm still looking for the rest of them. I hope they didn't get tossed. I tried to make a corset for myself because I have a broken back and thought it might help me sit up longer but I'm not good at sewing I'm much better at crocheting. I do want to try a slip and put one of the edgings on it! I think that would be a fun project and useful too. Best luck with that corset!

Wow, those came out beautiful! You are more than welcome. I was worried you wouldn't like them because they were mostly edgings, I'm glad I was wrong and you do like them. The book with the little girl on it has a very lacey dress for a little girl in it and I'm telling you, I shook that book so many times trying to make it!!! I never did get it made. Ha ha ha oh well maybe one day you will make that and I will finally get to make it and figure out what on earth I was doing wrong! Whenever I see you shake a book it reminds me of that darn dress and I have to laugh because I know exactly how you feel. I'm looking forward to making some of these edgings for chockers for my daughter. I never even thought about using them for that. Blessings to you and your family

I'm so thankful that she works out all the kinks before we give it a try I love even more that she keeps those problems in the videos so when I try something and it doesn't work I know I'm not the only one that has had problems with some of these patterns.

I used the third edging pattern you did for a garland for my Christmas tree. It was easy to make it long enough to go around the tree once. I used a couple other patterns for other garlands, and will be making more for this coming holiday. I used my grandmother's #10 steel crochet hook and size 20 thread. Very happy with the results.

You have no idea how excited I am to see the lace you're making! My Mamaw, who taught me how to crochet when I was 10 yrs old, used to make this same lace! I never saw her look at a pattern, but could spit this lace out so fast! She stitched it to pillowcases for trim for wedding gifts and such. She didn't get around to showing me how to make it and we never saw any patterns of hers. I do have a sample of the three crochet lace patterns she made. Those samples are very special to me. I've looked for vintage patterns for them for all my adult life; I'm nearly 65, and never found them. Thank you for showing this! You have a new subscriber here!

Impressive! Still have a couple pair of pillowcases my aunt's gave me for shower. (54 yrs) one pair wore out but cut the lace off and kept it for another set. Beautiful!

Hmmm.... why just wish this was fashionable? Let's MAKE it fashionable! I bet if all of us started edging our garments it'll get noticed. Since it's summer - i say we start edging the cuffs of shorts and capris, tank top shoulders, t-shirt sleeves and waists, jeans pockets.... so many unadorned thing to make lacy, colorful, and/or sparkly! We'll look back years from now to 2023 and say "yup, that was us that started that!" 😊

I have a couple of booklets like this that belonged to my grandmother. She used to crochet the most beautiful things in size 30 thread and smaller. I've crocheted for decades, as well as knit and embroider and quilt, but I don't usually use thread smaller than size 10. I am very happy to see that younger people not only appreciates crochet, but also is learning. We may not decorate every surface with doilies but we can find new ways to display our work.

Oh, oh, oh, oh! My eyes almost popped out of my head in shock. I inherited that book! My mother collected 10cent books when she was in high school, and after she graduated in 1947. She and one of her coworkers had a friendly competition to see who would be the first to buy the newest 10cent book. “100 Edgings” is part of her collection.

What a wonderful gift! I have that edging book too. I've always crocheted lace directly onto my hand-embroidered pillowcases or doilies. I've never seen anyone crochet a pattern like Pattern 3 that you later attach to an article. You make it look so easy! Now I want to try that method on my next project!

Excellent video as always! You are such a great instructor and your humor is the best. I wove a scarf on my loom, about 75 inches long and thought it would look nice with a crocheted edge. About 4 hours in, I realized the pattern I picked had 11 rows ( i was on row 5) , I was only half done and I still had the other side to do. It now lives in a little pile under my loom awaiting winter. It looks nice, so far, but it may just get ripped out and maybe just do the short ends. No harm done, and no one will ever know. That said, I do think a crocheted edge adds a nice touch to most textiles. Cheers from Minnesota, where winters are long.

Corinna I love the edging! I have a book of edging that intimidates me! Could you do a toot about attaching edging? My grandmother used to put edging on towel, hankies, slips, sleeves collars and even sheets! She taught me to crochet but she passed away….this video reminded me so much of her….she was absolutely….she crocheted, knitted, quilted, tatting, needle point everything….I miss her so very much. I've always wanted to make Eddings other than the usual ruffle on baby blankets or afghans. I grabbed some yarns, some hooks, and tried all three. First, my eyes aren't sharp, lol. Second, the smallest hook I have is 1.65 so I need to get more. Third, how on earth are you so FAST? 1:59 ! Lol. Keep it coming, I love it!

these are lovely...it's a pity we can't share photos of what we've made from your patterns in the comments here...I used your pattern of the cloche hat to make hats to sell, later this month, at a beanie festival being held in the Red center of Australia, Alice Springs..I'd found you just before you aired that project and the timing was perfect for getting items made and mailed in a month ahead of the festival..I made 9 hats in 6 days.. I look forward to seeing more of these being made so we can follow..I don't know if books like these are even available here in Australia, so it looks like I'll have to save/follow your tutorials.. and to Julie, thanks..♥♥♥

Being the fiber arts geek that I am, I just tried making the third edging with worsted weight and a 4 mm hook. I can so see this being used as a cuff on a sweater if you join up with a ch 3 and sl st to the middle of the first shell. Also as an edging for a shawl or afghan. Or even as a narrow lacy scarf in a beautiful soft yarn!

I have been wanting to do Gothic chokers at an intermediate level but haven't found good patterns and I haven't been clear on what thread and hooks to buy. These are just what I was looking for to start out. I love to explore the vintage and historical stuff through hands on experience in any types of art and cooking but I hadn't thought of historical patterns being available. Where do you get these books? Have you ever seen any for the loom/weaving? I've been using a ridgid heddle loom but I was just given an upgrade to a 4 shaft loom and patterns haven't been as easy to find. Also do you have a recommendation on brands for lace crochet hooks? I've heard that some are not labeled as the correct size. I'll be subscribing to see more of this historical crochet.

So I made a shawl that is a butterfly pattern. It didn't come with instructions for an edging. How would I tame one from a book like this and work it onto a shawl? These seem to work up by themselves, like you said, to be stitched onto something. Do you have a video about something like that I can watch? I need to look through the books I've inherited recently too.
