I don't know about ALL countries but MOST countries do not allow INDOOR track times to meet OUTDOOR qualifying times. In certain distances there is a huge advantage to running on banked tracks. Obviously outdoor tracks are not banked. Cheers.

@FromRussiaWithLove LOL. When I toured the US in the 1970's, promotors wanted us to run indoor races. I'm 1.86m (approx 6'2") and sucked at small, indoor track racing. LOL. I couldn't handle the tight turns. Plus, back then, many indoor tracks were NOT banked. Ha! It was an embarrassing nightmare for me.

Tell me about it.. I ran 3:52 in highschool, and that's slow even for high school these days. These kids are great athletes today. Hope things will be clear in time for the Olympics.

patrick boner they start ahead and on the outside because there isn’t much room on the starting line. Since they start on the outside and aren’t allowed to cut in right away, they end up running the same distance
