I’ve done so many things to fix my issue so far used oem idler arm and aftermarket pitman arm and rebuilt my own gearbox as well as my power steering . It’s been good so far but that gearbox looks nice. Nice video

I wish someone would come up with a grease line kit that so a person can grease without laying under the truck. Alot of people over grease and damage seals so a shot more often is the best. Thanks for the video. Be safe and wear the PPE.

I really wish that someone would do a comparison between the two. Because just beefing up the metal, does no justice. The quality is in the ball joint itself. Are you guys upgrading/beefing up the ball joint, or just installing a factory ball joint in your beefed up metal part. I’m willing to upgrade, but if someone is trying to sell me upgraded metal, I’m out.

That beautiful red gmc is in desperate need of a solid axle swap👍🏿👍🏿 I did mine on my 08 gmc duramax dually and it was the best mod I did on my truck..no more busted cv boots, cv axles, weak tie rods alignment was always a headache with the IFS junk, the amount of moving parts in the front end was ridiculous The amount of room under my truck when I need to work on it with the IFS gone is unreal 👍🏿

​​​@@sean.g4516 I bought the solid axle swap kit from WFO Concepts in Aurburn California they have everything you need to do the swap, I however source my own axle the best axle to find is a Dana super 60 that came out of a 2017 and newer Ford superduty because those axles have a bigger 10" ring gear 1550 steering ujoints 3.5" axle tube with 1/2" wall, 35 spline inner and outer axle shafts and bigger bearings...I luckily got my axle from ebay with everything on it from hub to hub for $700. You can do the swap yourself like I did in my driveway however the main tools you'll need is a welder and oxy/acetylene torch to cut out the front end everything else can be done with basic hand tools...the only down fall to the swap you'll lose your soft ride that the IFS has however there's alot less moving parts way stronger front end plenty of room to work on your front end if needed, front end stays lined up I haven't lined my front end in 2.5 years and my truck still drives straight

I'm a GMC/Chevy fanboy, and I'm here to say - Sir, that is not a classic body GM. You own what we like to call an NBS - Newer Body Style GM truck. 25 years older or more to be considered classic. With that being said I just put on all of the kryptonite products available for my OBS K2500, and what I couldn't get from them I used all the super / heavy duty MOOG and Mevotech products. Very happy with the product so far. Redhead gearbox will come later but for now mine has no issues.

In 07 during mid body style change, this body style(NBS) became “classic” when the NNBS came out. Since this isn’t an 07 model, it’s not a true “classic” but it’s a slang people use to call NBS. Just like “cateye” is a slang

Did the same thing but went with Rare Parts HD idler arm/bracket, pitman arm had cognito idler/brackets alread then added the tie rods with the red head steering box.

Does any aftermarket companies make pitman and idler arms with larger tapered-pins (the pins that insert into the center link)? I've had the stock one sheer off while driving (stock truck, leveled on 33's so not a whole lot of stress) so, in my experience, all of that extra 'beef' in the idler and pitman does nothing better to prevent pin sheer. Really hoping to find a set with larger tapered pins

Look into Cognito pitman/idler arm braces. They go under the center link to provide that added support. I did them on my OBS and it makes the truck drive so much better. That’s on top of Proforged pitman/idler arms and the idler arm bracket.

I had them on my LML. Kryptonite did not recommend the PISK with their upgraded idler and pitman arm

So I got into a car accident with a truck the steering wheel would turn all the way around with the wheels staying in place..would it be the steering box.. I was thinking about getting it for a business. It's got a dump bed on it.. I have been wanting to do a residential interior demo business flip houses type stuff

Kryptonite is a little over rated ya it looks beefed up but are the actual joints any better where it actually counts? Cuz the actual metal or arm pice I don’t think will make a difference being bigger it’s the actual joint that is gonna matter weather or not you have play in the wheel

Very nice but to others watching it’s rare to have to replace a gearbox due to play in steering. Chevy has an adjustment on the gearbox for that play. I would also replace the steering knuckle first as well as any other bushings in the steering shaft. Of course front end has to be in top shape as mentioned in this video

Im planning on installing that same kryptonite kit on my 19' L5P. Quick stupid question, do you really have to install the enforcement plate for the idler arm? Thus weld the plate to the frame? Not really comfortable making welds to the frame. Love the content though. Congrats on your improved steering 🙏💪

It’s highly recommended that you do. Since your truck is new, you’d be okay just adding Idler and pitman support kit and not actually replacing your arms

7018 uphill no zigzagging just straight up and fill the holes. Just clean up the weld site to metal 1st. Once cooled, hit with your favorite spray paint.

How’s your breaking? Is there any play after the gearbox swap? Swap out my oem power steering with a PSC pump and now my brakes are really spongy. I’ve tried bleeding out multiple times and still the same way.

My 2005 Hummer H2 Sport Utility Truck has loose steering even after replacing both wheel bearing and wheel hub assemblies in the front in August 2022. Cost me $1,350 at Tire Discounter. Never going there again because they charge $140 per hour labor. They did not fix everything I asked. Wish I could find a really good automotive mechanic shop on the far East side of Cincinnati.
