I see the DBacks coming in and signing Alonso to a 3 year deal with opt outs fatter the first and second years with a player option for a forth year worth about 120 Million including 30 million in the 4th year option. Rizzo goes to Boston on a 1 year deal and is an option at DH.

If Guererro isn't traded soon for a decent haul of top tier prospects, then he's gone at the end of the year. I could see this spelling the end of the franchise being owned by Rogers. They're not going to want to keep a depreciating business venture. That shiny new revamp of the Rogers center will have less then half capacity, merch sales will plummet and viewership on TV and radio will fall off a cliff. Only way this gets fixed is a new FO that isn't afraid to do what is needed. Instead of BSing the fan base, break down what the plan is for the future. Tear all the garbage down, unload all the "talent" that is worth anything for good future potentialand kick the rebuild into high gear.​@@Mr1stcat

It’s definitely a tax thing… a $30m contract and he’ll walk away with around $12m. At least in Cali + NY the state and local tax is a deduction on federal tax you’ll walk away with more than half your earnings. Then factor in FL, WA, TX with no income tax and it’s much higher.

If San Diego does not keep Profar they deserve no more than a third place finish in the NL West. With Profar they are a serious threat to thd Dodgers, if not in the regular season, certainly in post season. Verdugo is a solid player that did not work out for Boston considering what they gave up to get him, but he did a lot for the Yankees.

Arizona with a short term deal with Bregman would be great. I feel they're out on these guys because of the qualifying offer. And the fact they don't want to cross the luxury tax. Even though they preach to free agents. Come to Arizona taxes are lower. Can't pitch it and not strike deals to cross the luxury tax to build better rosters. But he would fit perfectly. Bregman at 3rd. Geno DH. Marte could DH and Bregman cold play second. Geno could play 1st if you would want to stack right handed bats against lefties. They just don't want a long term deal. They have aspirations for Jordan Lawler and crop of infielder coming up. Though Geno is a free agent next year and so is Naylor.

Santander is the guy the Blue Jays should be targeting imho, not Alonso. Why? Because the Jays need a solid lefthanded bat to give Vladdy some protection in the lineup, and Anthony's a switchitter. Besides Daulton Varsho, the only other solid lefty batter on Toronto's 40-man roster--actually another swithhitter--is Bo. Yes, 2024 was a stinker season for him, but he's way too talented to see that happen again, especially in a walk year. So, Tony Tater would be a nice addition. But more than anything, what rhe Blue Jays really need is for a new owner, like the Orioles were able to get in David Rubenstein, who has injected hope and excitement back in the O's fanbase. It's time for a sea change in Toronto baseball to stop the bleeding. Jim, you mentioned another former Bird, Austin Hays as being a nice fit for the Royals, and I can see that, though the Reds would also be a good landing place for him. Cozy Great American Ballpark is more similar sizewise to Camden Yards than is the more expansive Kauffman Stadiun, so Austin might feel more at home there.

It doesn't seem like it will be Yates or Scott. Maybe Estevez or Jansen? I don't see Jansen signing with the Marlins like he predicted. I would imagine he would want to win as he nears the end of his career. He was teammates with Martin last year in Boston. Maybe we can get him to sign for 8-10 million. We'll see what happens.

As a Jays fan, I kind of want a rebuild but then I remember how long and painful our last one was. We were terrible for close to two decades. At this point, I kind of want management to extend Vlad and Bo and call it in the offseason. It ensures we are not in rebuilding mode, we can skip adding useless pieces like Alonso and santander (good players but we need a better plan than that), and then when the offseason comes again, Atkins can be fired and we can start fresh.
