You're right about the Artemis shot being the "Blue Marble" for a new generation. The thing that struck me when I saw it was that it's the first time I've seen a picture of the Earth like that partially in shadow, I always think of the Earth in its "full" state. Was very cool.

Actually the picture "Earthrise" shows the earth partially in shadows and is older than "Blue Marble" (made from Apollo 8 in 1968, so before they even landed)

@@ThatBoomerDude56 "Artemis" is the name of the program. The spacecraft is called "Orion". and the rocket is called the Space Launch System. But Curious. How do you think is it "obsolete"? The demands of deep-space re-entry will pretty much require that any deep space manned spacecraft look like Orion (or Apollo before it) . iIe. a blunt cone. And no nothing Musk is working on will be capable of deep space re-entry.

LOL, the Mercury marker zipping past like the ancient god it was named after, there at the beginning, made me giggle! And Jupiter being the brightest thing in the sky once in awhile was something that I won a bet with my nephew over - he didn't know that any of the gas giants ever got that bright in the sky, and was _certain_ it was Venus or even Mars! 🤣 He forgot that Aunt Mary was a huge astronomy fan. 😏 Thanks, Dr. Becky, for all you do!

That video of earth from the Artemis 1 is now my screen saver, it put life in perspective. Everything we do during our whole life will be carried out on a Blue Rock surrounded by harmful darkness. That's why i got involve with astronomy because we all need to take the time out to appreciate the life that Earth is providing for us all.

Dr. Becky. Good evening. The live stream from Artemis looked like a cartoon movie . But there is a reason why. I will explain: the transmission rate of Artemis is 50Mbit per sec or ~6.33Mbyte per sec. Therefore in live video stream of 50 photos per second , every photos is no more than 120Kbyte. Hence, the resolution in live stream was medium. Cannot be HD in live stream. If Artemis transmission power is 100Watt per second, and the distance from earth 380000km. And the parabolic antenna radius is 35M. Abd the antenna gain of artemis is low close to one (it is not voyager which was 64000 the concentration of Energy in space). The Earth's deep space parabolic antenna received only 2*10^(-13) watt. You cannot have hight rate of information in 2*10^(-13). Therefore to see streaming in 4K it is impossible. You need parabolic antenna in Artemis with high gain . However there is a DSLM camera with width lenn. For high quality photos . These photos have very high resolution and the are published latter after hours.

I am so happy about the Artemis missions - I was quite young when the last Apollo mission landed. I stayed up until Orion separated from the ICPS so I was pretty tired at work the next day - I'm in the Pacific time zone or GMT -8h. I only recently learned about the amount of radiation the Apollo astronauts received in the Van Allen Belts and was quite concerned about sending more people through that region. I was very happy that they are testing potential shielding suits for astronauts to wear when we return to the moon. I also always love to hear more about JWST.

A technical issue I've been meaning to point out for a while: in the current setup, as you (Becky) move left and right, you change the amount you're eclipsing the lamp, which causes a sudden change in lighting that the camera (or possibly the mpeg compression) doesn't handle well; the whole frame jumps up and down in brightness, which is a bit distracting.

It's certain I'm going to find Artemis 3 intensely fascinating. I was 17 during Apollo 11, and remember it almost as if it was yesterday. Artemis 3 will be radically different, in almost every way you can imagine. Surely it will be vastly better this time around. I expect it to be far less dramatic. In 1969, they were using technology that was barely capable of getting the job done. At the time, most of us didn't know just how insanely dangerous it all was. I certainly didn't.

Fantastic education, keep up the great work Becky. I went to a Christmas lights show at Blenheim Palace last week and jokingly pointed in the night sky and said, look, the star of Bethlehem. Someone looked across and said no, that’s Venus and of course I had to correct him it was in fact Jupiter. Very bright in the sky. It’s only a bright spec but still a marvel when you consider the size of the planet.

People seem to not understand that stars (as observed from Earth) do not have sizes. There is nothing as large (other than the Moon) in the night sky as Jupiter is.

Dr Becky, you were in my dream last night. You drove me to the pharmacy so I could get my prescription medication. Then we drove back to your place. I think I was staying there for a holiday or something. You lived in some unknown country because it was the only place that had the astrophysics course you wanted to do. The city was like San Francisco because there were steep roads. In your house you had a shelf full of Good Mythical Morning merch. I remember seeing it & saying I like watching them. You also had a collection of washing machines in your house. Then I started getting sick & the dream ended.
