In Korea, people often judge people by their jobs. The wife doesn't want her kids to be ashamed of dad's job when they grow up. So she wants her husband to do something else. but it's not easy to do so. Nearly 20 years later... has the perception changed?

Honestly it's the societal norms that reflects this situation. In S.Korea, it's citizens are expected to study real hard, get into the #3 top university in the country....graduate and get a high paying corporate job so everyone around you esp...your family will be proud and can boast about your achievements to their friends. I agree with the husband as he's doing his best to provide for his family and also isn't ashamed of his job. Jobs like these are looked down upon because not everyone really realise how important these people in this line of work are. If he doesn't do it or no one else does, how will the streets be cleaned or garbage be collected???.... She should support him and be proud with him as he is working honest money for them, and not caring how others see him...I understand that she wants him in a better job, that will reflect a better image towards others but it's his choice if he wants to change. If this job is paying well...probably he won't see the need to do so.... Its just image and reputation she's worring about which were literally drilled in many of their heads from young until now.

@@beethao9380 as a Korean myself I still see the major tv channels (mbc, sbs, kbs, etc) still making those cliche romance dramas, although as of recently I've been seeing more "underdog" producers in foreign streaming services like netflix showing more realistic portrayals of our society through shows like Squid Game, Sweet Home, D.P, etc. And these really leveled up the kdrama industry because previously those romance dramas were stuff only women would enjoy watching

And I think it's a good thing that they're making more realistic dramas like that because I've met quite a lot of foreigners wanting to move here to work or get married, most likely as a result of those sugar-coated romance dramas giving fantasized impressions of our country to foreigners🤦‍♂️

Love and Respect for yourself and others are the most precious gifts you can pass down to your children! Your parents have obviously passed this onto their sons along with great work ethics. You can feel the warmth and love this family have for each other regardless of their situation. I love how proud you are of the job you do, the job you do allows the people in your city to live in a sanitary environment. Good health, a roof over your head, food on the table and love is the most important thing you can give to your family, you should be proud! !! May you all be blessed with good health, happiness, love and laughter, this is a wealth not even money can buy! 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽❤️……….Thank you K-doc for sharing this story, I love watching your documentaries, you keep it real!

Everyone is not willing to do his job. I respect anyone who’s willing to perform such a task. If they don’t do it are you? I respect sanitation workers, maintenance workers, office maintenance workers these are admirable jobs. While in college I did office maintenance because I had a family to support. These workers truly deserve respect 👍🏿

I only watched the first few minutes so far but, I perceive him as a good father and husband by doing his best to support his family. I get that the social norms and pressures may make her feel embarrassed that he works with trash, and he may be feeling it too, but the last place he should be feeling it from is his own wife. I felt bad she said she couldn’t be proud of him. She’s worried about their kids, but she’s not concerned that her own behavior could potentially aid in their kids being ashamed of their father. How can he keep his head high if his own family berates him when all he’s doing is trying to support them… sad to see that 😢

When I first saw the two brothers, I thought they don't have personalities. But after watching the two episodes, they and the whole family bring a smile to my face. Such a beautiful, hard working, supportive and also funny family. It's hard to find such a bond nowadays. The brothers joking around reminds me of me and my brother. If anyone has information about them, whether it's Instagram, Facebook or anything, share with us, it'll really be appreciated. Let's make a petition for them to update us. Or if the brothers are watching this right now and reading my comment, please make an update video. We all love you, if you could inspire me from the other side of the world, I can only imagine how much you inspired the people in your circle. Thanks for everything and I hope everything worked out for you at the end.

If her husband abused her, prostituted her, was a drug dealer or lazy, she can be legitimately ashamed. In Turkiye where I work as a coordinator, wealthy families and staff respect janitor for their contribution to the well-being of the school community : cleanness and order - they are the benefits we all share thanks to their labor.

He makes an honest living! My dad did everything, even work starting out as a janitor for the school systems. He studied hard to become a Grade II engineer in the school system. And he dropped out of school when he was young to work to bring something home during the Depression. So she should be thankful he works hard and seems like a good soul. One who doesn’t abuse his wife or child, drinks or cheats.

Korea was a country with a lot of opportunities … this was in 2004. A healthy hard working 26/30 year old should thrive for better jobs or u’ll be 44 years old wondering where it all went … Life in 2004 and 2023 in Korea is a huge difference. Property value alone jumped 500% They’re 44 and 48 now, hopefully, they’re doing better, happier, and healthy God bless❤

Really grateful for this documentary. I think society as a whole needs to rethink the way it sees status as we're still stuck with the antiquated "Resources, physical dominance, social influence" idea as opposed to the amount of responsibility and our importance in order to keep society functioning. We have long developed away from the wilderness of our ancestors and thus we should treat our people as such.

Weird thing I started watching tgis chanel one month after my neighbors at work , Sung ho passed away. For over 13 years I had the pleasure of seeing Sung 5 days aweek.
