Honestly it's the societal norms that reflects this situation. In S.Korea, it's citizens are expected to study real hard, get into the #3 top university in the country....graduate and get a high paying corporate job so everyone around you esp...your family will be proud and can boast about your achievements to their friends. I agree with the husband as he's doing his best to provide for his family and also isn't ashamed of his job. Jobs like these are looked down upon because not everyone really realise how important these people in this line of work are. If he doesn't do it or no one else does, how will the streets be cleaned or garbage be collected???.... She should support him and be proud with him as he is working honest money for them, and not caring how others see him...I understand that she wants him in a better job, that will reflect a better image towards others but it's his choice if he wants to change. If this job is paying well...probably he won't see the need to do so.... Its just image and reputation she's worring about which were literally drilled in many of their heads from young until now.

I felt bad she said she couldn’t be proud of him. She’s worried about their kids, but she’s not concerned that her own behavior could potentially aid in their kids being ashamed of their father.

If her husband abused her, prostituted her, was a drug dealer or lazy, she can be legitimately ashamed. In Turkiye where I work as a coordinator, wealthy families and staff respect janitor for their contribution to the well-being of the school community : cleanness and order - they are the benefits we all share thanks to their labor.

Hello woman! Nothing to be ashame of his job. He works hard to put food on your table & care for you. Nothing is wrong working as a janitor. You should give support, not complaining about his job. Be thankful!!

Thank you K-Doc for showing more realistic sides of South Korea, as opposed to the overly fantasized ones seen in k-dramas
@beethao9380 Жыл бұрын
you're watching the wrong k-dramas. The ones I see are full of injustice against the working and poor class which reflect this video quite well.
@haveyouseenmypuppy Жыл бұрын
@@beethao9380 as a Korean myself I still see the major tv channels (mbc, sbs, kbs, etc) still making those cliche romance dramas, although as of recently I've been seeing more "underdog" producers in foreign streaming services like netflix showing more realistic portrayals of our society through shows like Squid Game, Sweet Home, D.P, etc. And these really leveled up the kdrama industry because previously those romance dramas were stuff only women would enjoy watching
@haveyouseenmypuppy Жыл бұрын
And I think it's a good thing that they're making more realistic dramas like that because I've met quite a lot of foreigners wanting to move here to work or get married, most likely as a result of those sugar-coated romance dramas giving fantasized impressions of our country to foreigners🤦♂️

First aired on 2004, Yoo Bin must be in her 20s already. I hope she has had good education, I hope she manages to enter any of the SKY university so that she can have better prospects in life. Watching her crying at the beginning of the video when her parents were fighting really broke my heart. I really want her to have a more comfortable life.

Really grateful for this documentary. I think society as a whole needs to rethink the way it sees status as we're still stuck with the antiquated "Resources, physical dominance, social influence" idea as opposed to the amount of responsibility and our importance in order to keep society functioning. We have long developed away from the wilderness of our ancestors and thus we should treat our people as such.

I love this family's work etiquette, sense of humor and the care & love for one another amidst the reality of life. Asian culture always has the stigma of expectation of what is a respectable & honest job. Still prevalent & it's so aggravating. Your work doesn't define what kind of person u are, neither the society that supposed to embrace them. Bec. if not for them one/all sector/s of society will not function. Please let us know what happened to this family.

The parents really lucked out with their sons. They are understanding, mature, and helpful. I loved it when one of the brothers said to treat the broom as your armor, would you lower your weapon if you were to be a soldier? The mindset is so good. I wonder about their present life.

Atleast he is earning a honest living. She needs to be proud of her husband. I remember my husband feeling depressed because he felt like he could've done better in his career, but I thought he was doing well! Just be proud of what ever you do. The wife listens to others opinions, but those people arent paying their bills! Marriage is about loving and being supportive.

Pains my heart to see this. How society creates mess for kind, simple people like them. They are most wholesome and honest family i've seen. Their closeness & dedication is an inspiration. More such shows should be broadcast so public can be more aware about of discarding & creating garbage. Daebak this family! Salute!
