In this part, all the syncros from syncrotech was removed. Third gears were replaced with new OEM gears. Transmission case was thoroughly cleaned and then it was reassembled and sealed. We let the transmission sat for the night for the hondabond to cure before we put it back into the car.

This series of videos is the CORRECT way to rebuild these transmissions. Every case bolt should be replaced along with the oil baffle and countershaft needle bearing (mainshaft bearing doesn't hurt either). This is absolute top quality rebuild material - big hats off to the mechanic here. Top-notch quality of work.

****DO NOT LISTEN TO HALF THE THINGS THIS GUY IS SAYING!!!*** As an experienced Honda/Acura Transmission tech(not a forum and social media junkie) I can say that never in my 16 years of experience have I seen a case bolt break. That is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. I work on several 1000+hp K-powered turbo cars and 300+hp All Motor cars and have never had a case bolt break..EVER! So that is false and do not waste your money buying new bolts. just be sure to clean the threading if there is any HondaBond on them and check the case threaded holes to make sure there is not any excess HondaBond. If there is, clean it out. This will keep you from breaking a case when you torque the bolts down and there is no where for the excess HondaBond to go. Have seen several noobs do this. The bearing that was in your transmission is the correct bearing for a 2006-2008 Civic Si. In 2009 Honda introduced the PPS (first used in the 04 Acura TSX) bearing to supplement their system with a Koyo brand bearing. This introduction has not produced any improvements over the PPP bearing. If you have done more than just a few builds you would know this. On the contrary the TSX is prone to countershaft failure and have worked on so many TSX transmissions I have lost count and have seen them fail over and over. I have also been seeing more and more 09-up with the same final drive failures as the rest of them and are catching up to the early model failures. I feel a lot has to do with fluid. Honda MTF breaks down quickly under stress and in endurance racing. Using a fluid that offers more protection has proven itself time and time again. But, going back to the bearing...If it was outdated and defective part, Honda would eliminate the part# and provide the PPS as a superceded part. This is not the case. So stop spreading misinformation about that. In addition I have used the PPP in those 1000+ hp cars and have never seen a countershaft bearing fail or lost a countershaft. You will be surprised to know that some of the fastest cars in the country run a PPP bearing. Explain that one? Luck?? I don't think so. If you have worked at Honda or closely with them you would also know that the supply chain with Koyo is not as prominent as NTN. You will see more backorders with the PPS bearing. But as I have explained, you have nothing to worry about when using the PPP bearing if the PPS is not available. If it works in high hp vehicles and endurance vehicles it will be fine for your sub 400hp and daily driven stock cars. Typical Elitist behavior displayed all over your videos. Humility is your friend. Oh and do not try to shift your car without the clutch engaged...that is PLAIN STUPID. Why you would even try that among othere things, shows an extreme lack of automotive intelligence on your part and I can only wonder why you are having so many issues. That is a big NO NO.

HondaTrans Guy swapping the case bolts is a preventative measure..they may or may not break..hope that they do not break. The countershaft bearing for the 09+ civics are larger, so the ball bearings are stronger. I have yet to have the bearing failed, but I decided to go with what my mechanic suggested. As for shifting while in neutral, I was simply trying to show that 3rd gear had an issue that grinds while all the other gears didn't. It may be stupid, but I had planned to replace the syncros anyways.
@jdmboy909
@jdmboy909 9 жыл бұрын
TheTongMan Preventative measure?? LOL! Its asinine to assume that they need to be changed. Its not a "torque to yield" bolt that stretches and is single use. You have been totally misinformed and spreading this misinformation to your followers. They are not going to break. Same goes with the oil guide. If its cracked or deformed..replace it. If not, it is perfectly ok to reuse it. As mentioned I build for some of the fastest K cars in the country(not bragging..just being straight up). I have yet to see an oil guide fail. I do modify them in my own way to help with oiling but, that is all I do and reuse them with ZERO ISSUES. As far as the countershaft roller bearing(its not a ball bearing btw)..I see a lot more K trans then most. I use the PPP bearing in quite a few cars making 1000+hp(most using 02-04 setups) and have not had a single one fail. Just because it has less rollers and they are thicker doesn't mean its stronger. With a lot of aftermarket gearkits, they use bearings that have more rollers and smaller in size. Zero failures. Explain that? That mean they are weaker? Are you an engineer? Did you design that bearing and can say PPS is stronger or just going off of an opinion from someone who is assuming its better because they feel it is? You have a voice and can speak for yourself. If not you can do your research. Its not that hard. The PPS bearing is used in the TSX. Those finals break all the time or will start pitting after 100k usually. Got one here with 80k and a broken final drive. Another to add to the list. Don't be so quick to post false information up because I will call you out on it. I can't stand seeing people mislead. You will have a herd of sheep heading to the dealer to buy new bolts, oil guides and a bearing that is probably going to be back ordered now. Especially since its a KOYO bearing and usually in short supply. LOL!
@TheTongMan
@TheTongMan 9 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm not an engineer. I can not explain to you that the larger rollers are stronger than the smaller rollers. I can deduce that since Honda decided to swap the bearing in the 09+ that it was done to strengthen or prevent potential failure. It could be wrong and it could be right. I don't know for sure. Maybe you can enlighten me? Those 1000+hp cars you mention. Are those daily driven cars? Or do they only see a couple passes on the drag strip or track a few times out of the year? You're going to try and compare a race car to a daily driven car that is used on a daily basis and say that since the bearings can withstand a few passes a year at the track, it will withstand daily use? So you can say with absolute certainty that the cause of the countershaft and final drive breaking was caused by the new bearings that Honda put in? I'm curious, since I'm not a mechanic or anything. I'm not trying to mislead anyone. It's not my intention. If you are trying to educate or inform me, I welcome your expertise and your knowledge. But I don't see why you would come at it they way you are.

TheTongMan Since I worked at honda for a few years in the parts dept. I soaked in as much as I could. I learned that Honda will throw parts at an issue and hope it fixes the problem. For example, the change in going from multicone synchros to single cone synchros on later model Kseries transmissions hoping that it would remedy the 2nd gear issue. The feeling is that with less synchro surfaces making contact that there would be less drag on the shaft as a whole and may improve the 1-2 issue. It did not fix it of course but, on the other hand it is also probably easier and cheaper to use a single cone synchro vs a 3pc synchro. Another example is the updated 1-2 sleeve set for Kseries. No change or could have just been a manufacturing supply chain issue. So with the bearing, its a matter of branding. You have the PPP which is an NTN bearing and the PPS which is a Koyo bearing. PPP bearing was widely used from 02-08 for a good 6 years. Honda introduces the PPS bearing that is used by Acura in 2009 to 2015 for a good 6 year span. Think that was a mistake or just business and a matter of supporting suppliers? Who knows? I do know that I checked with an engineer with Honda and he could not tell me that the PPS bearing was introduced as an improvement. I thought I got the wrong bearing the first time I got the 09 bearing from Honda. So I had to ask why. So hope that clears things up a bit from my end. I could be wrong as well as the engineer. But, what I can tell you from personal experience is the PPP bearing has not failed me or convinced me otherwise that the PPS is considered a better bearing. When I have PPP fail. Maybe I will give that a shot. Until then..its still and active part number and has not been superceded in the system.

Ok. My 06-08 bearing didn't fail me. I replaced it because I took my mechanic's suggestion to go with the 09+ bearing. If anyone wants to keep their 06-08 bearing, I have no problem or issue with it. This was simply my decision to replace it. Same goes with the transmission case bolts and the oil gutter. From reading your responses, I imagine that you are a well informed person. I am on youtube because I want to inform others of my issues and achievements with my civic. If I have a negative experience, I will state so. If I have a positive experience, I will state so. I will not sugar coat laziness or sloppy work, especially when I paid good money for the work. Lastly, I'm no expert or certified mechanic. What I state in my videos or comments are simply my personal opinions. When I am wrong, I can accept that fact and correct myself. English is my second language, so my commentary is not fluent or perfect. This is an amateur channel - don't expect professional editing and narration. There are plenty of those on KZbin. Attacking how I speak was a low blow.

I don't know if beating the case in with a mallet to seat it in was a good idea. I would of just flip the transmission upside down and it will pop the snap ring back onto the counter shaft bearing to pull it back to place and then torque the bolts down. Those bolts are not a one time use.

Retrou Vailles I sat there for 3 hours with the clip as wide as it would go prying on the inside of the trans to push the shaft upwards, and nothing happened. Flipped the trans over and a gave it a gentle drop onto carpet and it popped right in place.

WhatTheFuck funny thing is I had to reopen the trans a couple days later and upon trying to close it back up, I actually broke the clutch casing because either the countershaft bearing wasn’t seating into the top of the trans casing. Punched a hole into the clutch case with the countershaft. Ordered a new clutch case with a new bearing already in it and was fine after that. Still something to note though.

the synchro wear is from the slipping clutch. I could see the dark low spots and heat indications on the flywheel as soon as you dropped the clutch and i hope for the customers sake you resurfaced it especially with all the trash you talked about the other shop... two pieces of cast aluminum will seal the same with rtv as honda bond oh and the bolts are just fine to reuse and will never break so long as they aren't over torqued. a little common sense will take your dollar alot further than certain rediculous practices in the Honda manual
