+Dani Oa I most certainly did mention that the US consulate in Lagos does not accept a joint sponsor for a fiance visa. This type of information is not published by each consulate, instead it is an internal policy that one only learns by asking the consulate. So far all of my clients for fiance visas from Ghana have had adequate finances, so I have never yet had to inquire to the consulate as to what their policy is. You or your fiance should contact the consulate and inquire directly, Then contact me here or at [e-mail] and I will update my database for the next person who may need to know.

This is so incorrect. You cannot combine income of the joint sponsor and the original sponsor on an I134. The joint sponsor must meet the poverty guidelines for their household size plus any beneficiaries with their INDIVIDUAL income on an I134. The joint sponsor's income is NOT combined with that of anyone else (not the original sponsor nor a household member) nor is the household numbers combined. The joint sponsor must meet it with their individual income (and individual assets if applicable) alone. You cannot combine income using an I134 which is used for K visas.

You seem confused. Certainly the sponsor and joint sponsor do not fill in a single I-134 you are correct. Each fills in his own. Then the incomes from each separate sponsor is combined, and their respective household sizes are combined to view whether or not the financial eligibility requirements are met.

@@Visacoach That's not true. An original sponsor and a joint sponsor who separately file I134s do not combine their income. If the original sponsor does not meet the poverty guidelines with their individual income then a joint sponsor will have to. They do not add the incomes together. That is only the case for an I864 where you can use the income of a household member to boost the household income to meet the guidelines. That household member would file an I864a and their income would be input in the original I864 in Part 6, Item 10, 13, 16 or 19 and would be added to the I864 filer's income in Part 6, Question 7 and totalled in Part 6, Question 20. There is no such option on the I134. The income of two sponsors is not combined for a K1.

+joanne greganda CR1 definitely has a financial eligibility requirement. However unlike with a fiance visa, the consulate n Manila will allow the use of a financial co-sponsor.

My fiance (petitionary) didn't work the previous year (2016) because she was a full time student, so she doens't apply for filling the current tax return, but she has been working since january of this year (2017) and her annual income is more than enough, but won't file a W-2 for the previous year. So far none of my clients needed a co-sponsor for fiance visa from Algiers, so I never had need to ask the consulate. If you need a co-sponsor, you should contact the consulate before starting, to ask and confirm what their policies are. If you support your Dad, then the total household is 4 persons. If your Dad is a roommate or sharing rent, then he is not counted.

ALL are included. So if there is just co-sponsor, you and fiancee. The TOTAL income demonstrated should be enough to support a TOTAL household of 3 persons.

Co-sponsor can be someone who has a good reason to help you. Usually that means a close friend or family member.

As you have already applied, and as you are using a co-sponsor for a fiance visa case, you can wait for the consulate officer to advise whether it is acceptable or not. Typically the answer is not, however he might use his discretion if you are lucky. Anyway "the die is cast". Let us know how it works out for you.

But what if it is a friend or family member that does not live with you do they still join their income with yours or do they have to make enough for a household of 4, which would be my case if my brother can help. +joanne greganda If your American Fiance does not meet the financial eligibility requirements, on his own, for example by his own income, or his own assets, then he will NOT be eligible to apply for a K1 Fiance Visa for you. The US consulate in Manila will NOT ALLOW him to use a joint financial sponsor.

Not ok. If she wants you to be approved to come to the USA, she needs to file 2020 and provide proof for you to take to the interview.
