This video makes me feel better. I have an 18 K16B with 48,000 miles that has been dealer serviced since new. The only service I haven't had done is the valve check. So far so good!

We are in Texas and this heat is terrible! It's been over 100 for weeks and no rain for months. I don't ever recall it being this bad in my 59 years! Thanks for the great videos!

As a prior K1600 GTL owner I understand both yours and the K1600 owners point of view regarding the valve job. I loved the engine sound, smoothness and performance of the K1600 but my wife hated her elevated passenger seating position. After watching many of your vlogs with your work demo Spyder, I decided to sell my GTL and get a 2020 Spyder RTL Dark. I was 64 at the time and was getting uncomfortable with the trying to balance the GTL loaded with my wife and travel gear. That was the best MC decision & move I ever made. We both absolutely love our Spyder. In fact, taking Coach Bobs lead, we added a Freedom Trailer to our Fresh Air Therapy travel capabilities. I still have an 06 Road King my wife gave me for my 50th birthday that has been out of the garage just once since the Spyder arrived. It has a lot of sentimental value so I’ve kept it. Most likely, I’ll eventually end up selling it to reclaim the garage space. BTW, I sold my GTL after the 12,000 service. I think the 18,000 mile service included a valve check component. I have a visual understanding and new appreciation of the complexity of that procedure after viewing todays vlog! -Thanx

i had a young lad with same problem we gave him small recorder and a system to keep it consistent and then someone else could fill in the official form . we had his notes and records and the transcribed notes. eventually we got an old tablet and one of the it guru’s designed a form he could go section by section to fill in as he worked. , but he liked to recorder and paper system, so we stuck with that, very successfully

He could do speech to text on a phone or just record his voice telling the specs needed. That’s one expensive service where I live. 500 for the check, 900-1000 for check and change clearances. Gotta love the boxer engines.

I'd be more worried if the tech performing my valve check couldn't produce ANY documentation on the clearance numbers. Granted, that mix up wasn't ideal...but asking to have the valves redone after a seasoned tech provided context seems a bit much. If someone at Shawn's level was adamant that it was in spec and it was just a clerical error, that'd be good enough for me. That's the power of a good reputation.

I think more people should watch these videos to realize why these bikes are so expensive to maintain. But we’ll worth it. Expensive or not, over the years I’ve owned nothing but. Current bike is my 8th BMW a 2022 RT. Great attitude!

@thesmoaksvlogs Do you find the valves on the 1250RT rarely need adjustment also? I've been wondering if I can do th less frequently to save some $. I do run BMW oil and filter. On the 12k check the valves were perfect. Almost due for the 24k check, but thinking I may wait until 36k to check again. What do you think?

Like the K1600's, the R1250's are usually spot on, but it only takes one valve to be too tight to create a nightmare. At least do both a hot and cold cylinder leak down test and make sure there is no valve leakage. Thanks Jon!!

Exactly why I haven't bought a K1600 . . . . I've owned 4 Beemers . . 3 boxers and 1 K bike . . . boxers are the way to go . . . JMHO

If you are servicing your bike by a reputable Authorized Dealer and you are a repeat customer, you should trust the people. If my Dealer said it is done, I will have no hesitation to believe that it is done. That customer is not being reasonable.

Poor Tim, noty his fault. One of my nieces is dyslexic in the same way and of course when she writes numbers down it makes sense to her but gobbledygook to you or me.
