Kadeem Willock I'll be ready. I am already on planning a video on my gearbox rebuild with a Quaife LSD. Measurement, shimming and so on. I know it is not just a quick finger press on the record button.

Just to add on, the balance shafts spin at 2x the crank speed. The type s pump spins @ 1.62 the crank speed. That's why the type s pump can rev higher without cavitation. B series never had that problem because their pumps run 1 to 1. But since the k series has vtc they needed to keep the oil pressure high in the lower revs so they spin the pump a bit faster. The balance shafts on the other hand by design need to spin twice the crank speed to be effective in canceling out the second order vibrations, but also since they are spinning faster it translates into more oil pressure which is great for turbo setups.

PrimeGarage nice so if I’m reading correctly the balance shaft pump is ok for a boosted application?
@MrDelsoleg116 жыл бұрын
Kadeem Willock yes exactly. it's not a recommended mod to do with an a2 or z1, but if you have a k24 or k20z3 and plan on going turbo the type s pump really isn't needed.

@@hevertpacheco7870 well of course you can, flashpro raises your fuel cut to 8600 rpm, you can rev to 8600 safely all day, anything more than that becomes an issue.

In your experience and opinion, do you think the a2 pump is needed if I only keep the revs no more than 8k? Good video, thanks.

I have done it with the balance pump but it wouldn’t hurt to get rid of that extra rotational mass

you know the type s oil pump comes on the a3 in the base rsx from factory
@kadeemwillock63356 жыл бұрын
justindrumm8 yes I may have mentioned it in my videos but yes you are correct, base dc5 with k20a3 came with prb oil pump. I guess the SI was too luxury hence the reason for a balance oil pump.

Kadeem Willock i got a question you might be able to help me out with. i have a ep3 a3 block, going full a2 internals. now i have the a2 oil pump and wonder if i can keep the stock steel pan? only reason i ask instead of getting a a2 pan is that the base rsx uses the same steel pan as the si

justindrumm8 should work especially if it’s the same part number and depth

Nice video, thanks! Quick question- Would it be possible to just remove the balance shafts from the stock oil pump and plug the oil supply hole instead of replacing the whole oil pump with the RSX pump? I can't see from the video if the balance shafts drive the oil pump. Thanks in advance!
@kadeemwillock63355 жыл бұрын
Avery Alexander not sure that has been done but think about it, if u gut the internals of the stock pump u still have that heavy chunk of metal in the pan so the same amount of effort gutting that pump it’s better of swapping to the Type-S style.
@averyalexander23035 жыл бұрын
@@kadeemwillock6335 Thanks. The reason I was thinking about modding the stock pump is because changing to the RSX oil pump is so expensive. It's not just the pump you need, it's also the chain that drives the pump, the chain guide, chain tensioner, and the windage baffle, and possibly oil pan, but not sure about that, which would cost $200+ dollars or more if I need the oil pan. Also, I have heard that the stock pump with the balance shafts spins faster than the RSX pump and makes more oil pressure at lower RPMs. What I heard is that the RSX oil pump spins at 1.6 something times engine speed compared to the stock oil pump, which spins at 2X engine speed. Does the sprocket come off of the RSX oil pump? One possible solution I thought of is to sprocket the pulley from the stock oil pump onto the RSX pump, that way I may be able to reuse the stock chain and keep the 2X rotation rate for more oil flow and pressure.
@kadeemwillock63355 жыл бұрын
Avery Alexander well before I begin you can experiment and do what’s best for your motor. The sprocket on the type s oil pump is not interchangeable if I remember so that is not an option. Yes it spins faster which causes the cavitation but this is all depending how high the motor is revved. My complete oil pump kit except for new tensioner and guide but the pump and baffle are used. What kseries is your engine, what are your goals and set-up with your car.

@@kadeemwillock6335 Thanks. I actually don't have a K yet, I am planning a K swap in my beloved ES1 Civic. I am thinking I am going to go with either a K24A2, K24A3, or TSX type JDM K24A since those engines all basically the same thing and make 200+ HP from the factory and can be purchased for a reasonable price, well under $900. I don't plan on revving higher than the stock rev limit since this is going to be my daily driver and it needs to be reliable as possible, so no boost either. About the most this engine would see is a mild tune and basic bolt on's. So I am thinking the stock oil pump that spins faster and therefore moves more oil at low RPMs would be best for me, but I'm thinking I would like to get rid of the balance shafts before I install the engine to reduce weight and drag a little and to increase reliability, and if I could do it for free that would be ideal so I have more money to spend on the other parts I need for this swap like a trans. Thanks
@kadeemwillock63355 жыл бұрын
Avery Alexander if you are staying n/a just get a k24a2 and that should be a decent drop in swap. Something I’m learning myself is to not over complicate certain situations/ideas, good luck

I do not even think it will work without the shafts inside and its still a big mass attached to the engine so it is better off running a type s / base model oil pump or s2k pump
