Big tubes would gain power with 12+:1 compression and high duration and lift cams.

And hi flow head and hi rpm. Engines in this tests had big cams in them "All motor tsx" guy on insta has agressive build and 48-51-54/4-1 header did make way more than plm header. But than again design of plm for tsx is not the best to begin with.

so what brand header would you run of the shelf? ive currently got plm headers on a k20a with DC 2.2 cams

Only other header beside mine that has resonances suporting k20 rpm range function is solid fab ep3 header as it has last resonance at 8600rpm. They are using 48mm primes but 51mm secondary tubes and choke points on collectors (that are also good design) are of correct diameter. I have seen it performing on dyno daze dyno and ep3 with that header was making the highest hp and no loss in mid. But we are lookint at 5-10 hp on top and 10-15 in mid range difference. I'll post header testing of that design (Joe Mac design) vs toda and skunk.
