Cap, the cutoff valves and the cranking ability of the starter (sometimes called motoring) are both there to remove fuel from the engines (or rather prevent fuel from going in). Having fuel overflood an engine or worse having an in-flight engine fire is one of the worst things you can encounter as a pilot, as not only do you require on those engines to propel you forwards (especially so in a helicopter as you do not create any innate lift at speed unlike an airplane with the lofty lift wings) the bigger problem is that you are sitting in an airframe with a major amount of extremely volatile aviation fuel. Therefore having the ability to remove fuel from or prevent feul from going to the engine provides an enermous boost in safety of the airframe and by extension the pilot, so that he can safely shutdown and purge the engine in case of (battle) damage. For those of you wondering why the rotor(s) can start turning without having fuel fed to them, this is because the APU (Auxillary Power Unit, pretty much analogous to starter engine unit in a car) is providing initial power to the rotor(s) which in turn feeds back into the engine. When the rotor(s) start turning, the engine(s) starts turning, you insert fuel and ignite the sparkplugs with power and hey presto you have running engine(s)! This is also where Cap muddles up initially due to the alarm clock going off: the APU can start turning the rotor blades and start the engines in this manner, but it cannot run the entire rotor system at full power (it is only a small start engine). Therefore if it is run for too long or at too much demand in engine power the APU will automatically shut down after X amount of time to prevent damage to the APU. Also take note that in emergencies APU's are used as emergency power supplies to provide power to flight-critical instruments, as well as provide power to the engines to try and restart them rather than using airflow over the rotors / jets to re-light the engines. This is a much more beneficial way to re-start your engines in the KA-50 as the method normally used is to enter a dive and use the resulting airflow to re-light the engines, as the nature of the KA-50 will often dictate low level flight and thus you wont have the necessary altitude (or energy) to trade in. Thus re-starting your engines via the APU may prove much more succesful for the life duration of your pilot, of course assuming there are enough bits left of the airframe for it to be able to restart anyway.

The generators are mounted to the transmission. They can be online when rotor rpm is above approximately 70%. Engine rpm does not matter

I didn't see the configuration of the UV-26. That might be advisable. Also, I didn't see him turn on the EGGs, but at the end of the video they appeared to be on. After hitting the starter it isn't necessary to wait until 2000 rpm. Just make sure there isn't fuel in the engine before hitting the starter; that means you can open the cut-off valve immediately after hitting the starter. I also didn't see him turning on IFF and NAV, but they were on. Without this last one he might not have power on the HUD. Finally, the throttles should be set to Auto only after the engines have spooled up.

Lol I cannot even find out how to make a simple scenario. I just want to have the helicopter on the ground, in a cold and dark state!! How do I do this? If I choose a mission I start off either airborne or on the ground with the engines all running!! How do I make a scenario where its just my aircraft alone on the ground cold and dark?

in ME (Mission Editor) place Ka-50 and go to the waypoint section TYPE: *Turning point & Fly Over point = in the air at set altitude/speed *Takeoff from Runway & Takeoff from parking hot & Takeoff from ground hot= runway or parking slot or where you placed heli and engine is running (Hot start) *Takeoff from ramp & Takeoff from ground = parking slot or where you placed heli engine not running (Cold start) hope this helps

So this heli is so complicated and convoluted that there are different ways to start it up?!? What is this, a chopper or advanced scientific theory? Also, given Cap's record with the Viggen ejection handle, how long until he arms the seat but not the rotors and becomes a Cap smoothie? Edit: I was being facetious with the first comment lol. In reality this chopper doesn’t look too bad, it just a lot of redundant systems to start up.

The heli itself is not really complicated per se, there are just a ton of systems at play. However, simply starting the engine is suprisingly similar to starting any old car, it just has a lot more redundancy and safety features installed as it is both an aircraft and a vehicle designed for war conditions. However, you will notice that Cap first connects the power / battery, starts the APU (starter engine) and opens the fuel lines before he actually starts the engines, which although you do not do in a car (as they are always connected) does mirror the analogy of starting a car.
@Stahlwollvieh
@Stahlwollvieh 6 жыл бұрын
Well in principle you always do the same things. The way I use is just a bit more streamlined (mostly just one big sweep through the cockpit), which isn't entirely by the book but works just fine and is easier to remember. I also cut out all those system tests and BITs, because it's DCS.

But now you’re going to start making missions that are survivable in it, so that will be fun. Tired of all the viggen and eagle missions ;) We have enough sabre and mig15 pilots. Let’s do something with them. Helicopters or something for those that don’t? Warbirds as well? They aren’t too over powered compared to warbirds
