It's an awesome blade! The price was not so awesome, but Ka-bar does seem to mark up these specialty models.

I have and use the BK21 and a Tops Kukuri like object. As a tool I use the Tops most often for bushcrafty stuff. With the Tops a secondary knife is most useful. You are correct the BK21 is more like a machete and use it as a large camp knife. I like the BK21 handle much better than the Tops which is best used with gloves. Thanks for the review. By the way I use my cold steel drop forged hunter for everything indoors and out. Your good review of a good knife.

I had one of these about 10 years ago, back when it was just BK&T. I found it too light for a chopper Kukri , but it made a decent heavy machete. I found the grips too smooth. The leather sheath though was very nice. I ended up selling it to a friend. I have since picked up the Schrade Kukri. Far happier with it, it's a bit heavier, and has a FAR more positive grip. HATE the sheath though, and wish I could get a Kydex one......

I have one of these I bought from a magazine maybe 28-32 years ago. Coated with navy gray baked on finish, exact Becker handle, but no name. Way before BK&T. Might be a Reinhardt early model. Still use it in the garden all the time. Several years left it out all summer in the garden. Very cool blade, thin maybe 1/8". Sharpen with file.....

Before the internet, people bought things from magazines and catalogues. I remember buying the Roman army set from the back of a comic book, it was a couple hundred fairly tiny plastic soldiers. Those were the days.

The one you have was pre-Kabar, sold under BK&T (Becker Knife & Tool) brand, probably made around 1993 or 94. Becker (who designed the handle) made a deal with Hank Reinhardt who designed the blade. Blackjack knives (back when they were still making everything in the US) was contracted to produce the blades. If you have a grey powdercoating on yours it's the high carbon steel model, only a couple of hundred were made. There's no marking due to the powdercoat would have covered the lazer inscription. There was also a beadblasted finish stainless steel model that they produced somewhere around 500 of. I have one and it is marked BK&T, Reinhardt model, Effingham, Illinois. It's probably worth $250-300, take it in from the garden.

The price in 2023 in Australia is around $359 which right now converts to $238USD. A ridiculous amount of money for what we get with this product. I have considered purchasing this for a long time but since I already own the KA-BAR kukri's I will probably keep it on the wish list and buy some TOPS Kukri's instead for the same or similar price.

Say Heah Is, .188"= 3/16", Yeah, This BK Becker Reinhart Ka-Bar BK-21 is my next Becker. But I did get lucky I bought the Becker Limited Edition. even though I already had the BK-4 and BK-5. the Machaxe BK-4 originally I bought as a chopper only to be undone by my BK-9. I also find the BK-5 to do as we'll as my BK-7, everything my BK-7 does so can my BK-5. I teamed my BK-5 with my BK-15, and my BK-4 with my BK-2. As a chopper the BK-4 is OK, But as a large knife, it shines. it's just a little different looking. So I also can team my BK-4 with my BK-5 and BK-2, But usually I team my BK-2 with my BK-16. But now I'll team my BK-2 with the BK-21. The reason I'm not in any rush because I have a Cold Steel Kukuri Plus in the O1,Is, it's a good one buddy. yeah, I teamed it with my Master Hunterin the SM III, I also have the Master Hunter in 3V and I plan to team it with my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife a lovely piece of kit. Yeah, when I found out that the CarbonV was a 1095 CroVan with a Zero Quench, I bought almost the whole line of Becker's, But I don't have the BK-3 or the BK-11, but instead I have (2) BK-14's and the BK-20. Thanx You for reviewing the BK-21, this really helped. Thanx You Is.,,.

Big companies like Ka-bar tend to lose touch with reality, the pricing on this kukri is a good example.
@living-wellon-less5669
@living-wellon-less5669 3 жыл бұрын
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Big companies like Ka-bar also have higher overhead and usually unions. But in the case of Ka-Bar it's more complex, they are capitalizing on the survival/bugout/SHTF/ craze that has taken off the last 15 years, their line of knives has increased about 100 fold from the mid 1990's so they have to maintain a high inventory half of which should have never been made in the first place. And before this pandemic I could find the BK9 for about 100 bucks, and I know retailers are jacking up the price on the hot selling knives like the BK9, my first BK9 was 89 bucks about 3-4 years ago but I have seen them today as high as $179 that's just gouging! I do love most Ka-Bar knives and when I really want my wallet raped the king of cutlery TOPPS knives!

@@WeAllJuggleKnives You lost weight in modern times ! Good work ! How tough is this Crovan 1095..must be a reason axes and "big choppers" are NOT made of 1095. Did this Chip /roll during all your tests?
@WeAllJuggleKnives
@WeAllJuggleKnives 4 жыл бұрын
The edge held up. It won't chip or roll, unless they mess up the heat treat, which can make a knife prone to chipping. Estwing uses 1055 I think. Hatchets don't need to be 1095, they're thick hunks of metal so the mid carbon steel works good for a hatchet. I like 5160, all my Malaysian and Thai machetes are 5160 and they can take a pounding.
@BOOSTEDLASER
@BOOSTEDLASER 4 жыл бұрын
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Never knew Crovan /1095 was THAT to tough.Wonder why axes/hatchets are not made of it. has to hold an edge MUCH better than 1055 I got 4 guys going off grid (ozarks) they want 1 "big chopper" type tool for REAL work..that can be counted on 10-15 inch blade of high quality. Is BK 21 your first pick? Budget 130ish. Camp 10 seems nice

@rainbowhiker
@rainbowhiker 6 жыл бұрын
Joseph I Sanchez Guess I'm an anti thrower. I bent or broken a number of blades like that... Besides, used as a defence or attack weapon, you don't want to throw it away or give it to an enemy. Keep it in hand, any blade, and use it with your skill level. Thowing non-throwing knives in any life threatening situation has a very low percentage of a lethal penetration.
