In this video a do a side-by-side comparison of the Ka Bar TDI Law Enforcement Knife. Models reviewed are the 1477 and 1485. I've seen a few holster makers adding a sheath to their designs specifically for this knife so I wanted to see what was so special about this knife. I can say it's the design.
Ka Bar did an amazing job with knife. Angle on the blade is perfect and allows you to have a solid grip on the blade. Holster is designed for the 1477 Model (smaller blade) but the 1485 is a solid knife. Thing is razor sharp.
1477 Model:
Coyote Brown: amzn.to/2eDIcvS
Black: amzn.to/2wBkEMP
Non-Serrated: amzn.to/2gyteEA
Overall length 5-5/8 inch
Weight: 0.18 lb.
Blade length 2-15/16"
Overall length 5-5/8"
1485 Model: amzn.to/2gyKBoO
Overall length: 7 9/16", Blade Length: 3 11/16"
Steel: 1095 AUS 8A
Blade Shape: Tanto
Grind: Hollow
HRC Rating: 57-59

I have this knife and love it. Carried it as an LEO for years. I have 3 sheaths. 2 of the original style with belt slots. KaBar sent the second one for free so I could carry either side without changing mounting over every time. I just received the sheath you describe with the metal clip. Also came free from KaBar for the asking! Great Knife and fantastic customer service from KaBar!

I have the small non-serrated small guy. I was the kind of knob who didn't like serrations either. And I obviously had no idea wtf i was on about. I bought a Spyderco Enuff Sheepsfoot because i got a good deal, and i liked the look of the serrations. Well in doing a little research on serrated knives, it turns out that they cut 4X better then non-serrated. And in practicing slicing through some old clothes, and jackets set up too see what my knives would do if someone was wearing lots of of clothes and if they were weari g a heavy jacket too because of the season like now, in winter. Well long sentence short, i was disappointed with more of their performances then i had any inkling of!!! And then i got that Serrated knife, and other then zippers, it shreds EVERYTHING to ribbons. So i went and got the Cold Steel Voyager Vaquero serrated XL. It's the literal best cutting knife on the market bar none!!!

And they take four times longer to sharpen

Sharon Enfo shouldn’t need to sharpen this knife as it is only meant for self defence use.

@@sharonenfo805 Fair enough, but you hsve to sharpen them up to 4 times less then you do a straight edged blade. And they cut 4x better. So not only is it more or less relative because you have to sharpen them so much less, but the extra cutting force puts it way over the top. It's just how i see things.

@Foxtrot Sure you can. Buy the Spyderco gauntlet And the Serrated Sharpening Arm. Or any handheld ceramic bar sharpener will work just fine. Its the reason theres generally 2 bars a fraction of an inch apart, thats in order to sharpen your serrations. KZbin has many different videos on different methods and styles too.

If you appendix carry you can deploy with ether hand.

Thanks for watching. You can but depending on how you carry it, likely would be a cross draw situation. Had an AIWB holster made with a sheath attachment for this on the right side.

Good video photography knife is shown clearly not too far but just right. Makes me want to buy that small knife for edc self-defense.

+Bernard Tan thanks for watching and for the feedback. In hindsight I wish I only purchased the smaller on as the larger one is too big for my liking. I purchased a Tac-Lb MTR holster and had a Kydex sheath made for the smaller one. Great rig and glad it incorporates the Ka Bar 1477 into the design.

Pacific TacWest just as i thought the smaller one is a good edc selfdefense last ditch knife. Big knives endup left at home due to weight size & comfort. As of now my Sog Snarl is my edc last ditch knife, it's really compact & dirt cheap. But i'm planning to try this knife you are reviewing.

+Bernard Tan let me know your thoughts. Another option I use is the Benchmade 175BK CBK.

Pacific TacWest wow benchmade is so expensive, i lost my Spyderco karahawk before so i don't want it to happen again. Budget knives are better if you frequently lose things.

Is that belt clip reversible on that sheath

Thanks for watching. Unless they've changed the design since I bought this, yes, the belt clip is reversible.

Is this knife illegal to conceal carry in Michigan?

Thanks for watching. I'm not sure about that. I know there are a few websites that show knife laws by state. I think you'd be able to google and confirm.
