Ka'ena point is a special trail because it is part of the Natural Area Reserve, where many native flora and fauna live! Check out this video to see why it's one of a kind and see why it is family friendly. This 5.5 mile hike (without permit access to road) takes you along the north shore coast line featuring albatrosses, monk seals, and beautiful native flowers.
Unfortunately the vehicle permit is only available to locals and run out quickly each calendar year.

Thank you! You should definitely check it out one day. There are 2 entrances to Ka’ena point: via Makaha side or Mokuleia side (the popular way). As long as you remain on the trail and stay respectful hiking, you should be good. This hike is open to the public and is a state trail.

Nice video! Before I left Hawaii I love to hike there after work and with the Gs. Kaena Point has some really great plants. I would always look for the Ohai, Akoko, Maiapilo, & Nehe.

Thanks for the video! I read a few places that it can get kinda sketchy there in the afternoon. Like car break ins and stuff? Is that true? Is it still pretty safe to go? And would you recommend going in the morning instead of the afternoon?

Hi! I recommend going in the morning versus afternoon since it gets really hot in the day that side and also that way you can get good parking. Sadly break ins occur all over the island at all times :( but just gotta make sure you bring your valuables with you and not show anything that can tempt someone to break in that the can see through the car window. But I hope you’re able to enjoy the hike! Hopefully you can come across seeing a monk seal chillin on the sand.

Hello! Thanks for the video. Do you know a good hotel, resort close to there? Or do I have no choice but to stay at the south of the island? First time there, and I’m a bird photographer so I want to see it all! Also, we are going in late October. Do you think I can still see the albatross? Thanks. Gary

Hii! The closest hotels near Ka'ena point would be Aulani/Mariott located in Ko Olina Kapolei area, or Turtle Bay resort. The albatross usually starts arriving in late october/early november so you'll have a good chance! Hope you're able to capture great bird shots while here on the island. There's not much on Oahu compared to when you go to Maui or Kauai.

@@gary_michael_flanagan_wildlife I recommend going to big island, maui, or kauai. You’ll be able to see many birds up in Koke’e state park in Kauai. Haleakala (can check out Hosmer’s grove) is a good place to see in Maui. And then there are good short trails along the saddle road like Kaulana Manu or the Pu’u O’o trail in big island.
