Definitely a fun waterfalls hike. Love the crater at the top. About 10 years ago, my crew and I, walked up on a couple having "fun", at the first waterfalls!! 🤭🤭🤭

I just moved here from Texas and I am stuck between binge watch your Oahu playlist and actually going out on the hike!!!! Great content thank you so much for sharing. I am only just beginning my hiking journey but am very excited to see this beautiful island.

Thank You Sandra! Well, you are in good hands with Dr. Elena! I am the living proof of that :). Aiea Loop is a great outing and that wreckage makes it even a more exciting hike. 🤙🏻🌈

I remember clearing the trail with HTMC back in the early 2000's. It was a fun hike. The new pipe came out of a tunnel w/a locked door. Passed the first fall on the right, went down to the stream below the second and biggest fall and went around it on the right. I heard a part of that section washed away years ago. Is the rock at the top of the 2nd fall still there w/the name of someone who died there? Third fall was kind of a series of small falls that we climbed first on the left then crossed it and topped out on the right side. Making the loop down the side ridge was fun and some people would miss the trail down to the stream and get lost. I always parked as close to the trail head as I could. I'd leave nothing of value in my truck, leave the windows open and a few buck in the ashtray (remember those? LOL ). That way I figured I'd pay the parking fee and no one would mess w/my truck. LOL

Everything is pretty much the same. The tunnel with lock is there, the rock on the top of the 2nd waterfall is still there with the plaque and the series of waterfalls are still fun to climb!

These videos are such a cut above, the music, the narration…I love this hike and I still had more fun watching this video than hiking it!! 😂

This is my favorite hike on the island. I can't wait for the weather to dry out so I can do it again. Last year the loop around the crater and back (5 miles) took me 4.5 hours, with 2,488 feet total ascent. How was the climb onto the KST, was it muddy? It looks like the rope on the 3rd waterfall is still missing after last year. Can you confirm?
@HungaroExplorer8 ай бұрын
Aloha Adrian, This time we didn’t climb up to the KST, it was super windy out there. The trail was muddy but nothing too serious, we actually thought that the conditions were almost perfect. The 3rd waterfall (it is more of a cascade) has different waterfalls, I am not sure which part you think of without the rope. Mostly had ropes on every climb.

Hello! Thanks for posting great content year-round, I have been following you for some time and frequently come to Oahu for ridge trail running. I am currently looking for a new trail running shoe to replace my Lone Peaks as I’ve noticed it wears my knees and often causes me to roll an ankle. I run in California on dry, technical downhill terrain. The Bushidos seemed okay but I felt that my heel had a higher risk of slipping out, the back of the shoe did not cup it well enough. What are 3-5 that you would recommend in the La Sportiva line? Thanks!
@HungaroExplorer8 ай бұрын
Mahalo for your comment and positive feedback! If you like La Sportiva one of my other favorites is the Akasha 2. But I would try them on to see if your heel stay in more secure. I am wondering if you had the Bushidos a bit bigger, because they have a pretty good heel lock. The Captiva is another option. It is their lighter trail runners for shorter distances and they are fun to run in. There is another La Sportiva shoe on the market called the Prodigio. I didn’t have a chance to test them yet, but looks like a pretty exciting shoe. I hope this helps. Let me know what you get! Aloha

Thank you so much for the advice! Any thoughts on the Mutant, Helios, or Jackal?
@HungaroExplorer8 ай бұрын
@FortisMan The Jackal is an all arounder long distance shoes that can work. the Mutant has deep lugs for softer, muddier terrain but it is pretty heavy. I would rather use the Mutant for hiking than running.
@FortisMan8 ай бұрын
I received the Akasha II and Bushido II and noticed that my heel feels like it’s raised a little too much or that the shoe doesn’t cup my heel well enough. Could the Jackall II be used for downhill trail running on rocky terrain or could this present any issues due to it being designed as more of a longer distance? Thanks for the help once again!
@HungaroExplorer8 ай бұрын
@FortisMan Hmm, I don’t have heel lock problems with any of the La Sportiva shoes. Maybe you should try some other different brand…The Jackal is should be good in rocky terrain and downhills, but not sure how different the heel lock would be.
