is the mt100 and the trek 100 two different jackets by Decathlon?
@HungaroExplorerКүн бұрын
No, the Trek 100 is not a down jacket, it is a polyester insulation which means it will insulate even when it is wet, but it can be heavier than a down jacket. The MT100 is a down jacket. I hope that makes sense

I'm the other very taller Kenji that you might know and maybe saw my log in the book 😅 did my birthday hike there 2 years ago to pupukea with the same conditions!! We were so lucky! We ended up cruising for 7 days up there, 2 days each cabin because we saw the "Eddie Aikau big wave competition" was going to happen. (We planned 1 day each cabin) Luckily we brought enough food. Hiked from koloa to the big open field and camped, and was so lucky a bradda drove us down to foodland once we passed the last gate. The most epic birthday of my life ❤

I could only afford Tomir 1.0 as the price is just 60% of the 2.0. I wear Prodigio for nearly 200k and found the midsole is a bit hard. I am looking for a softer midsole (coz speedgoat5 is my first and previous trail shoes). Could u compare Tomir 1.0 and Prodigio?
@HungaroExplorer4 күн бұрын
I just returned my Prodigio after 250 miles on the trail because the shoe lace channel broke on both of the shoes while I tried tightening them…La Sportiva did send me a new shoe thankfully :). I love the Prodigios. I really like the midsoles, I think they are soft enough but not too soft. Comparing it with the Tomir 1.0 it is hard. Two very different shoes, but the Tomir’s midsole is pretty hard compared to the Prodigio’s… The grip is better on the Tomir and it is more durable. I still wear mine, but for running I prefer the Prodigios. These are my thoughts.
@gunnersgogogo48824 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for sharing. I also think that Prodigio laces is not good enough. I will try Tomir in the retail store first.
@HungaroExplorer4 күн бұрын
@gunnersgogogo4882 Yes, I hope the laces will get an upgrade, but the Tomir 1 laces are not the best either :)

Second opinion: Dry feet are more comfortable for hiking. I only hike with waterproof shoes in Hawaii. My feet don't really sweat, though, even on a 8 hour hike to remote Ko'olau summits. In dry weather, when there are still puddles on the trail from 2 days ago, they will reliably keep your feet dry. To make them work in rainy weather, you ALSO MUST wear Goretex gaiters AND slip-on waterproof pants that hang OVER the top of the gaiters. You must do this on most of the ridge trails even AFTER it has rained, while the foliage is still wet. Otherwise, your non-waterproof pants will keep picking up water droplets from the foliage as you rub against it, until it is saturated, and the moisture will move from your pants, to your socks, to inside the shoe. I also recommend merino wool socks with waterproof shoes. Leather and suede are also waterproof and extremely durable. If you aren't willing to pack the pants and gaiters in your bag, then yeah, just wear regular shoes in the rainy weather and suffer with the wet feet. Stream crossings should be done barefoot or with tabis, and then use a towel to dry your feet before putting your Goretex shoes back on.
@HungaroExplorer8 күн бұрын
Great feedback! I am happy someone can actually make it with dry feet through the Hawaiian trails. But you just mentioned couple of very important facts. One, that your feet do not sweat and two, is that you need to use some other gear like goretex gaiters and waterproof pants together with your waterproof shoes to make sure that your feet will stay dry. If you are willing to use those extra gear, it is definitely possible to keep yourself dry in wet condition. Once again, thanks for the feedback!

@ashfaqgazala14 күн бұрын
So by all terrain do you also mean roads?
@HungaroExplorer14 күн бұрын
All terrain usually means like all kind of trails, gravel, 4wd road but not actual concrete road. This shoe can handle road too, but not like a road running shoe. I hope this make sense.

how does it compare to a sense ride 5? which one should i choose? i run daily on a football playground and my trail runs are 5k 12k and 18km
@HungaroExplorer14 күн бұрын
If it is like a an easier trail, not technical or muddy where you need deeper lugs, I would choose the Sense Ride 5. It is a faster shoe than the Thundercross.

Quick tip for this shoe. Add a hole so you can make a runners knot. The shoe is way better once you can get that heal locked down. I really enjoyed this shoe. I have one 50k logged plus training miles.

Good tip! I never ran a 50k with it, but I used it for many training runs. It is such a versatile pair of runners.

I stumbled upon this mountain by accident and almost died. sorta. I didnt know what i was getting into. Drove up to the observatory thinking I can just get to the top. It started out a nice sunny day. And all of the sudden about 3 hours into the hike a blizzard came through with lightning. It was crazy

Lugs wearing out early. Not as durable as Salomon A little more ankle support would be good. Very comfortable but a little more ankle cushioning would also be nice as there is almost nothing around the edges Not great on slippy wet terrain
@HungaroExplorer29 күн бұрын
Thank You for the feedback. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you in all the points. After 200 miles the lugs are pretty worn out, but still have life in them, probably another 100. The ankle cushioning doesn’t bother me, but it is very thin, I agree. The lugs are definitely better in dry, rocky terrain. I think is one of the most comfortable La Sportiva shoes but needs some added durability.

Watching this brought back lots of memories in Waianae Valley. Hiking Puu Kawiwi back in 2013 and goat hunting in 2015 after a brush fire killed off all the grass. I always used to talk to a guy named Duke whos lived down that right next to the gate. I've never been to that side of the valley but it looks rough.
@HungaroExplorerАй бұрын
I love Kawiwi, such a great climb. But yeah that brushfire gave a nice clearing on the grassfield. I didn’t see Duke for a while out there, not sure if he still around. I met him before maybe couple times while parking at the trailhead. Are you still hiking or hunting?

@@HungaroExplorer I hope Duke is doing well. I have a few funny stories about him and he was always such a character. I am still hiking these days but live in Seattle now.
