Today is all about my favorite fall vegetable--KABOCHA SQUASH! I'll show you the easiest way to cut it (safely), a few different ways to cook it, and two delicious vegan and gluten-free recipes using kabocha squash.
Plus, once you know how to cook it, you can also easily use kabocha squash puree as a canned pumpkin puree alternative (it's MUCH better)!

Love how this video is focused on one vegetable! It’s like a crash course on a new vegetable. I’m not very adventurous with new foods so this is helpful!

My dad grows these orange squashes, and our garden is always all over the place, because it takes so much space. One year we also had grown this scquash on apple tree, it was funny to see how the scquash wanted to crawl everywhere 😊 nice recipes btw 👍

Wow! I love your delivery. You get right to the point without delay. Wish more people did this on KZbin. Terrific, healthy recipe. I just had Kabocha last night for the first time. I roasted it with onions and asparagus, EVOO, s & p. I have to say I don't love the flavor It tastes like pumpkin to me, (even smells like pumpkin) and has no sweetness at all. No "nutty" tones. I much prefer butternut, but glad I tried Kabocha. Now I know. Thanks for your post. I love curries, too. :)

@@oliviamartino4355 I think it should work for the curry! Not exactly sure about the banana bread though since it's less sweet and the texture is more watery.

I would microwave the whole pumpkin for a few minutes first so that it will soften a little bit for cutting. Depending on the size of the pumpkin and your microwave voltage , I would start with 2 minutes at a time. I hope this is helpful.

I love your channel and videos but here I have to share my tip, I don't try to cut the kabocha before cooking it, I actually put it whole in a steamer and voilà, I cut it afterwards, not only is it safer, faster but it is healthier AND "yummier" (?), in fact, it's so delicious the squash doesn't need ANY ingredient, just like chestnuts, good as is, fabulous, my favorite fall, winter food! I eat one about once a week!

Thank you for the tip! What kind of steamer do you use? I have tried kabocha squash steamed but I prefer it roasted (I prefer most vegetables roasted hehe), but willing to give it another try :)

Thanks Natalia! I am happy you're inspired to try kabocha squash :) Yes, it was tahini mixed with lemon juice, salt, pepper and a little warm water to thin. Super simple but delish.

Roast the squash and then peel, very easy for those without the required upper body strength, just pop in oven whole and keep refrigerated to use in soups and sauces as needed

This is sad. i needed to learn how to cut a Kabocha Squash... but i only heard about 20% of what you said. Stunnning woman with an equally great, engaging personality. i still have no clue how to cut this tough-skinned squash... but i think she said something about using your core. lol. i'll listen again and pay attention this time.

Microwave it for 1-2 minutes to soften before cutting. 👍

Honestly I don't cut it, I steam it first, whole, in a steamer, than I cut it, it's so much better, and faster, it's healthier and wow, so delicious, the skin is so yummy etc and because it retained all its flavor it doesn't need anything else, I don't even add salt to it, nothing (and I'm a salt and pepper person!)
