I don't love the game, but I do love that it captured my 8- and 10- year old's little game hearts. I bought it a month ago, but it's almost always out on the table. Easily our most played game this year. And despite how good or bad it is, the fact that it's gotten us to turn off the telly and spend time together makes it a winner.

@gqsnowman3 жыл бұрын
This is a game you can play with a friend you haven't seen in a while. You can talk. You can drink beer. You can goof around. This is niche board game checkers. It's not amazing, but it's easy and you can play it with anyone quickly. It's welcome in my collection. My other dex games are huge affairs. Junkart? AMAZING, but quite a production and stressful and if someone bumps the table, the game is ruined. Meeple Circus? A riot. But even more stress inducing from the timing, and it has the table bump problem too. Kabuto? A bit sturdier, less thinky, WAY less stressful. It's like if a dex game was a relaxation technique. No outrageous highs, no real lows, just time with people you care about and fun shapes on a little platform.

My thoughts exactly. It might not be the game that makes the evening but it might well be the one to save it.

This is perhaps one of your best written and edited videos, Tom. I loved how you jumped around from scene to scene. That took a lot of work and planning. Plus the script was very mature and wry. I dare say you are perhaps better at this than Quinns and Matt.

I think it can be lost at times that something being "simple" doesn't mean it isn't fun or has merit. A game like this could be an introductory into more diverse games. Or it could just be something that anyone can pick up and play with little to no knowledge and have fun at say a party or family gathering. Different people respond to things differently but something like this appears to have universal appeal. It's fun, it's quick, and there's a range of complexity that allows for some degree of decision making.

As mentioned in the video, the game gets WAY better if you play it fast. Less thinking, more playing. It tends to drag out and never end otherwise. I can recommend houseruling that all push the pieces inside the brown outer ring to increase the impact. (Saw quackalope suggest it, have tried and enjoyed it). On three players, as one was eliminated, we imposed final rush - two pieces pushed per turn to end the game quickly and start again. I would encourage house rulings in general. The game is light and not to be taken too seriously. :)

In the words of Brian Limond: I like Turkish Delight. I do. A lot if people don't like Turkish delight, I mean Fry's Turkish delight. The type with the chocolate on it and the purple wrapper. But I like it. A lot of people say "ugh Turkish delight that's disgusting. How can you eat that? It's like eating perfume, it's like eating old women's perfume. Like lavender water, or rose water or whatever it is. How can you like that?" But I like it. I like turkish Delight. I don't like it enough to get it for every day, or every week. In fact I can't remember the last time I got a Turkish delight. But every now and then, I'll be in a shop and I'll walk past the shelves with all the chocolate and I'll see a Turkish delight and I'll get it. It's nice, I like it. I like Turkish Delight.

Actually Kabuto means the helmet samurai wore, and the most famous type of beetle in Japan is called Kabuto Mushi (samurai helmet bug) because its horns look like a samurai helmet. :) Kids in Japan used to capture these bugs in forests and then have them fight. This tradition was the inspiration for the Pokemon games.

There is something satisfying seeing a bug in a thong... honestly, that is enough of a selling point to get this game on my radar - sometimes you just need something that is "camping outside" friendly - small real estate needed and easy to play. Include a beverage of choice and I am sure the hilarity of bad pushes and bug roleplaying would erupt soon enough like a pub brawl with bad football in the background... Nicely done Sir Tom!
