Studying George’s face, while watching this? George looks somewhat sad, almost as if he was thinking those early years, were the best? @@joemasse4568 Not really, I suppose. It was more a bit of Nostalgia imo. George wasn't very keen on being a Beatle, he didn't like the huge amount of attention and craziness of the fans, the whole Beatlemania thing was hard for him. That doesn't mean he disliked being a Beatle, but according to him he was relieved when he could finally do his own things, publish his own songs and not standing inbetween Paul and John. He was really happy in this stage. Making his own music, spending his time tending his garden, devoting himself more to his beliefs. So basically, he wasn't sad I think. The Beatles were a crazy ride but it was good that it ended and he always said and believed that.

You can't fool us George; you're as amazed at how wonderful The Beatles are as we were then, especially with a song like this. They were a revelation, they changed the world and made it a much, much better place. They were a huge, once in a lifetime positive influence and an incredibly joyful and deeply emotional touchstone to those of us who were lucky to have grown up with them. There will never be anything like it again.
@spactick3 жыл бұрын
the expression "they changed the world" started when men (mostly youth) started wearing their hair long again after nearly 50 years of getting military style haircuts after WW1 because of the beatles. that's true, although it was other music groups that took it to extremes (length wise) but other than and the way they're stylists dressed them I've never understood what people meant when they say "they changed the world" really? how so? I'd like to know cus I lived thru that period and I've never heard anyone explain what that meant. Can you?
@Quarrymen693 жыл бұрын
@@spactick How they changed the world? Through their incredible music catalog. They moved millions of people with their music. Since you lived through it, you "may" have heard of Beatlemania. You're obviously not a fan, so maybe you ignored it. Try watching some documentaries. Get caught up. They absorbed everything from Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry etc. in the 50's, and took it to the next level. Rock and roll evolution. Pretty much any famous rock artist from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's will say The Beatles were a huge influence on them. But yeah...no effect on the world at all.
@spactick3 жыл бұрын
@@Quarrymen69 Obviously not a fan? actually I saw the 4 chaps at the Cow Palace in 1964, 65 and their very last 'public' concert at Candlestick Park in 1966. In fact not to pull 'rank' my former friend (he passed away) Bob McClay (who was a disc jockey at radio station KYA) drove John from the airport to the stadium. No lie, the concert was delayed because the limo they were in couldn't get into the stadium because of traffic. So I guess you could say I liked them, but I wasn't some nut case idiot that went out of my mind when they preformed. I liked their music, but I also liked The Beach Boys, Lee Morgan (jazz musician), Bill Evans (jazz pianist) etc; so about Beatlemania? personally I thought it was embarrassing. I mean come on they're Brits playing our music and we're going nuts? disgraceful, seriously. As to influence? no question when it comes to what you were looking at (hair, clothing etc;) they broke the ground, cracked the egg, opened the door to a whole new visual (and creative) experience while you were watching your entertainers. So I ask you again Quarrymen what specifically did they do that 'changed the world?' your reply didn't cut it, wanna try again? I'll patiently wait while I comb the hair on my Beatle doll, just joking :)

November 29 is the date he died, though, and this also is not well-attended. December 8, the date John died, always sees SBF packed with singers and musicians. All great singers. But John’s voice carried something special and undefinable. It reached into the soul of this listeners.
@kingarthur4ever Жыл бұрын
Years ago, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) was asked about why John was such an effective vocalist, and he replied "pain...there's pain in his voice". Given Wilson's own tough childhood, and Lennon's, I could see a kindredness there . Some of our best singers and songwriters carried a lot of pain, which helped them achieve higher levels of artistry.
@TheDreamingJune Жыл бұрын
@@kingarthur4ever Wow. That's so true about John's voice. I've always felt a pain and raw vulnerability in his voice that's drawn me to him as a vocalist. It's the kind of thing that really set him apart in the band and it's the reason why he's my favorite singer in the Beatles.

As a beatlemanic from day one I have to inform we loved all of them. People who came later likes to compare them and even classify them. That iwas not the Bealles feeling, though we had our favorites. However we loved the four. We would sing we love the beatles, we love you John, we love you Ringo, we love you George, we love you Paul. Beatles were and stil are an unity. That's whey they are unique. No other band is like that.
@JohnCee75410 жыл бұрын
I totally agree -- it's funny how in nearly each KZbin video featuring The Beatles, you'll read all the comments about this one was better than that one. But as George Martin said, when you got the four together, there was this inexplicable chemistry that created magic. As for this clip, I love the look of fondness George has as he watches himself and his bandmates from all those years ago. "Good song", he says, amid the laughter.

He (as well as Lennon) found the adulation the Beatles received a tad too much, thinking they were only a damn good band. My impression is that he respected he wasn't in the same songwriting league as Lennon-McCartney, but rarely received the credit as a mucician that he deserved. That jangle in the back is Harrison and it is the song.

This Boy - the song brings back so many memories for me back in 1964 when I was 7 years old and I played that Meet the Beatles album over and over. But hearing it again now brings back how they were really at the top of what they had been trying to do - make big hits, be famous, etc. - and I think George might have remembered it that way too. No one can really know what it was like being them at that point in their lives - in our lives - no one but the four of them. It's great seeing all these memories preserved. I'll say one thing, it's hard to really see anyone else on the pop music at that time that was on their level - even then. And of course, they'd go much higher, creatively. The song This Boy still captures that innocence. Most of what they did was up tempo then, but this song showed there was much more to them.

"She Loves You" for me, tops in the category of their finest up-tempo and fun song. But as great as that one is, my co-favorite is George's lead on the fantastic, "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You." Such an upper, fun, exciting, and at the end, a love song too! "This Boy" has their best harmony, with "If I Fell" a very close 2nd to This Boy." TB is more of a wistful, and sadder song compared to "She Loves You" or IHJTDWY, taking TB down just a notch.

Loved them all - but sorry l cannot agree with you. Paul has to win that prize. He is just as spiritual, but didn't have to talk about it. AND the other 3 all bitched on Paul during and after their break up, nearly driving him to a break down, because of how heart broken he was. AND not once have l heard Paul bitch on any of them. AND while they were all stupidly carrying on with Clyne - Paul had begun the long journey of sorting the Beatles finances - from which they all benefited.
