It's not a bad font. It was made to be used in comics and it works great there. People just don't understand it - they use Comic Sans in documents that are meant to be serious and THIS is ridiculous.

I like comic sans because I have bad eye problems and the thick, unique lettering is a lot easier to read for me than something like Times New Roman or whatever. Although lately I've been experimenting and may have found a substitute in Segoe Print.

Comic Sans is supposed to replicate the look of Comic Book text, which it does pretty spot on. Most people use it for online comic books and even some comic book replication, even by DC and Marvel on their ebook versions for ipod touch/iphone/ipad they scan in the images then replace the text bubbles with comic sans so it looks just like the original comic book font. the only reason to use this font is for comic books anyhow which is what it's good at

Meh, people just hate things that are popular. Comic Sans, Helvetica, Justin Bieber... I think Wing Ding deserves more hate. Try writing letters in Wing Ding. Also Papyrus, that font ruined Avatar more than the unoriginal Pocahontas plot.

I agree that Comic Sans is a fine typeface when used properly. I've found that its a very legilble typeface at small sizes on computer screens. It's also appropriate when used with small amounts of text for a specific purpose. As an example, when I write a story I use it when the text is handwritten by a character within the story (such as a diary entry). But I agree that it has been overused, especially in places where its not appropriate and that has led to the strong dislike for Comic Sans.

A parallel that could be drawn is with a bum in an alleyway. I always thought that communicating clearly had more to do with vocabulary, grammar and clarity of thought, than the typeface in which I choose to publish. I will concede that Comic Sans has some weaknesses in terms of visual readability, but this whole "love to hate it" phenomenon is nothing more than an elitist game, in my opinion. Yes, I do enjoy the font and yes, I'm old enough not to care that it makes me the butt of your joke.

I hadn’t really thought about the actual readability on screen without anti-aliasing. CS does not deserve all the hate it has gotten over the years. Though many of the typesetters who have used it does.

@usagora You didn't say "anything", I did. As in there isn't *anything* CS is good for. It's not the overuse that's the problem (such as with Trajan, Copperplate or Papyrus), but the many flaws in the font design itself. The poor lines, awful kerning and inconsistent letter shapes are what make CS such an abomination. Compare it to Chalkboard, which has the same crappy aesthetic but which is actually done right on a purely typographic level.
