This is a flashback that I recommend checking by yourselves once again, mostly because of the change of context leading to the fight and the art of course. Some of the change of context: -Kaien's wife was already dead. -They didn't know the hollow's powers, and there are details that makes it less overpowered. Chapter 134: They put this chapter at the end, where Ukitake talks to Byakuya. Byakuya: Once you've let one of your people die... two or three more make no difference. In any case, she's a member of our family. It's not of your concern whether she lives or dies. Please don't do anything foolish. Ukitake: (Thinking) What would you have done in this situation? Would you have attacked Byakuya and kicked him a few times? A lone captain making a fuss won't sway the tribunal. Would you try to save Rukia anyway? No, you wouldn't have done any of those things. 9:34 So that's interesting. Why does THIS Hollow think that because Soul Reapers and Hollows are Spirit Beings, that the fusion between him and Kaien cannot be undone? Is it because he believes that's conceptually true, or is it because of how his specific powers work? I'm not saying he's wrong, I just wonder why HE thinks that, and whether that's any kind of well-known within the Soul Society at this point. I mean, it seemed inconceivable to at least Squad 13 that this one Hollow could even do any of that.

That plot is coming. Surely,it is coming and poor Rukia she's just apawn in something MUCH MUCH BIGGER. Nowadays it's impossible avoid that spoiler but we're steadily advancing.
