Hell I’m in my 40s and I still dress as a Ghostbuster for Halloween 😊. So many reactors miss that it’s Peck getting hit by falling marshmallow. GB2 is my favourite.

I feel like Ghostbusters is peak comedy Bill Murray - he does no acting at all, vamps his way through every scene, and ends up completely stealing the movie.

The librarian at the beginning of the film is played by legendary character actress Alice Drummond, who scored her first TV role at the age of 39 and went on to appear in almost 100 TV shows and feature films over her nearly 50-year-long career. She played alongside some of the greats, and will forever be my reminder that it's never too late to pursue a new adventure, career, or passion. RIP 😢

The difference with _Shrek_ is that was made as a kids' movie with a lot of jokes and satire for adults, whereas _Ghostbusters_ was made as a comedy for adults with a lot of effects and fun factor for kids.

Great reaction!! Saw this when I was 6...yes, 6...not in the theatre, but on home video (VHS) - instantly fell in love with it! (I've always loved all things macabre!) You're right, some of the comedy only hits when you're older, but the movie really does have a universal appeal (not saying it's a 'family' movie per se, but it's pretty 'tame' from a language & violence perspective) My sister had the soundtrack, which I listened to relentlessly - just awesome! Only certain effects look a tad dated (the demon dogs, you can tell on some shots that it's a composite/stop motion overlay), but considering it's 1984, it holds up very well! My wife and I were so happy to introduce this to our boys - and now it's at least an annual constant, especially around Halloween! So many quotable lines that we use on the regular in our household! And yes - Rick Moranis is awesome here. Did you catch the irony that he's the Keymaster? Considering he's always locked out of his apartment!! Cheers.

The "Slimer" ghost was a relatively small part of the movie but a major character in the cartoon that was popular that followed up the movie for several seasons. Because of this, Slimer had a much bigger role in the sequal.

I have a friend who is restoring a hearse to a Ghostbuster ECTO-1. It looks amazing. He already built a Delorean time machine. Funny that Louis was always locking himself out of his apartment. And he is possesed by the "KEY MASTER".

I wasn’t born in the 80’s and I was a 2000’s kid growing up. But both me and my best friend were huge fans of the movie and I’m still very much to this day. So much so, I got to do a full on cosplay in complete gear and with a custom made uniform for Halloween last year and it was an incredible experience all dressed up for work. So many people wanted pictures and recordings too. And it was truly a dream come true for me to be an authentic Ghostbuster. The little kid in me was ecstatic.

Great reaction to this fun 80s classic... Fun trivia facts - the little girl having a birthday party in the restaurant (of which Lewis/Rick Moranis is trying to get into to escape the terror dog) is none other than pop singer 'Debbie Gibson' in her screen debut. Also, adult p0rn star Ron Jeremy, was one of the extras in the crowd when the Ghostbusters firehouse was being evacuated (you can clearly see him with his signature mustache in the background for 5 seconds). The long running Saturday morning animated TV series 'The Real Ghostbusters' (which ran from 1986-1991...it was called The Real Ghostbusters to differentiate itself from another cartoon show called The Ghost Busters), it would continue storylines from this first movie and later tie itself in with the 2nd film Ghostbusters II (1989) and also continue storylines from that film as well. (An ironic tidbid - Ernie Hudson who played Wiston Zedmore in all the Ghostbusters films actually auditioned for his character on the animated series but lost out to Arsenio Hall. The reason being is the animated series producers said that he didn't sound like Winston enough. Later on, the producers realized that Ernie was actually the movie Winston but they already hired Arsenio and they all liked working with him, so they kept him on....Ernie later jokes about it all in interviews and fan conventions saying "sometimes producers don't know everything", lol.) Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009) would also act as a Ghostbusters 3 of sorts (and would be the last time that all the original actors would voice their iconic roles together, since Harold Ramis the actor who played Egon Spangler sadly passed away in 2014)...A remasted version (but keeping all the orginal voices) of the game was release in 2019 for all modern consoles & Steam...Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) contains several references/easter eggs from the animated series & the video game, as well as is dedicated to Harold Ramis memory. All 4 of the Ghostbusters actors would also appear in Ray Parker Jr. music video for Ghostbusters (1984)...along with many other celebrity cameos (it's definitely worth checking out) 😉

The difference between Dan Aykroyd's character, Ray, and Dan Aykroyd himself is very minimal. He was essentially written as "what if Dan was an academic instead of a film maker." Similarly, I'm not sure Bill Murray has played any character other than slight variations of Bill Murray. I've always wondered why Peter Venkman would have gone on a date while carrying enough thorazine to knock someone out for several hours. At first I thought maybe he was planning on doing something awful, he's been borderline sleazy up to that point so it's not out of the question, but he turns down Zuul's offer which makes me think it's not something he'd do. I was stumped on this until I watched another reactor who wondered why Peter was always so chill in almost every situation and it dawned on me, the thorazine was for _him_ and he's just on a low dose of it all the time. Also, I find it _highly_ amusing that they made the EPA guy the main human villain.

I have watched this a billion times and can still recite a ton of the lines. I got into the “real ghostbusters” cartoon and toys… the ecto 1, a bit worn for wear, is still on display on my shelf. I made my own firehouse from pressboard because the official one wasn’t remotely to scale. When “afterlife” came, it felt like the movie was aimed right at me. Egon was, is, and always will be the best one. I do not collect spores molds nor funguses, however.

The original Ghostbusters is the perfect comedy movie. Perfect casting, acting and writing. The VFX was groundbreaking when it came out. I saw it in the theater when it came out... about 15 times. lol The movie rocks.

I don't get why some people don't think there isn't any character growth. It's subtle, but it's there. Venkman, for example, goes from a cynical skeptic who thinks of "the supernatural" as a hustle, to being genuinely unnerved by Dana's possession, to yelling "nobody steps on a church in my town." He's also less of a jerk by the end. Egon's big character moment isn't at the end of the film, but around the end of Act II, with the "your mother" line at Walter Peck. We see him go from emotionless, over-analytical stiff, to a moment of rage, to suggesting something potentially reckless - crossing the streams. Not a huge shift, but a change nonetheless.

Movie slime is often made with the thickener, Methocel (Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), which is a cellulose ether, which can be acquired in food-grade types (although the FDA recommends only small amounts) and used to be used a lot in jelly-donuts. The amount used in water determines the viscosity of the resulting slime, and that was what was used in this film. Great reaction, as per usual, and now you are TOTALLY ready to watch "Epic Rap Battles of History: Ghostbusters VS Mythbusters."

The music for the film was done by the legendary Elmer Bernstein, who had worked on the score of tons of huge films from old Hollywood. I was a lad of 14 when this film came out. I literally saw it 37 times in the theater (sometimes sitting through other showings), just to be part of the crowd experience! These were the days when a popular movie would sell hundreds of seats a night, and Ghostbusters was a hot ticket! A friend and I made a bunch of the ghostbuster badges the crew wear on their uniforms and made a tidy profit at showings 😂! Those were great times.

The library ghost is named Dr. Eleanor Twitty. The car is a 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor combination car. These types of cars could be used as ambulances or hearses. The green ghost is supposed to be the ghost of John Belushi, a frequent collaborator with Dan Akroyd (Ray). Zuul is voiced by Director, Ivan Reitman.

I watched this as an eleven year-old in the theater. I found Lewis cringey and the ghosts genuinely scary and I absolutely loved the movie. No I never dressed up as a ghostbuster but man I would have loved a proton pack Nowadays of course, I love Lewis' character and Rick Moranis' epic delivery. The entire ensemble top to bottom is fantastic - from the main cast to the the hotel manager and even the alarmed cigar smoker at the elevator. Just a magical bundle of fantasy, comedy, absurdity, and adventure. Never cross the streams and if someone asks you if you are a god, say yes!

My favorite character is Egon, played by the late Harold Ramis. Three years before Ghostbusters, he and Bill Murray co-starred in the comedy Stripes as two friends who decide to join the Army. It also had the late Warren Oates as the senior drill instructor, Sergeant Hulka; John Candy was in it, too. P.J. Soles, who was in the original Halloween and Carrie, and Sean Young, who played Rachel in Blade Runner, were also in Stripes. You should watch the music video for Ghostbusters. It is an awesome video and has a bunch of different celebrities in it. I was 13 when this movie came out and it still remains one of my favorites.

So, I would suggest watching the whole series... with the probable exception of the third movie. Out of them all, that is the least connected to the overall story and the least well-regarded movie. It's interesting how in some instances they maintain the actual geography of Manhattahan. The restaurant that Louis tries to gain entrance to just before becoming possessed by a demon is actually a short distance from the building they use for the facade of Louis's apartment. You cross the street and enter Central Park and then turn to your right and it's a short jog up the way a little bit.

So i had seen the movie casually in the past, as a cosplayer, I decided to really go down a ghostbusters rabbithole so i could make all the costume and gear really legit. Im so glad i did. I adore this franchise. IF you game, consider playing "Ghostbusters The Video Game Remastered" it takes place after GB2 and has an amazing story arc!

I would have been almost 10 when this came out. I did see it on cable. If I saw it in "theaters" it probably would have been a drive-in theater. I remember people liking the movie, but as far as dressing up, I never noticed. Even stuff aimed at kids, like The Goonies, we all liked the movie, but we weren't dressing up as them. In my trick-or-treat days, most kids wanted to be something gross with makeup, or a horror movie character.

Was 14 when it came out, saw it in theaters and yes, MANY had Ghostbusters costumes that Halloween. My brother and I were on that list, cardboard boxes as proton packs, we hit a surplus store for overalls and used a Stormtrooper blaster to make the proton pack “wand” as we called it. The crowd outside the haunted building was mostly... spontaneous. They had set up a few organized extras (like the Orthodox Jews and a small crowd) but apparently the whole thing grew to almost a party, and they got a huge crowd of extras at the end that just showed up to join in.

I hope when it comes to watching the 2016 Ghostbusters re-boot that you watched the Extended Cut. While not a great improvement over the theatrical release, it does help the plot make a little more sense in places.

When the movie came out, or more importantly, when we recorded it to VHS, I was awakening as a pubescent male, so the Gatekeeper scenes really stuck with me! The most replayed bit of the tape, though, was when Louis was chased out of his apartment by the animal; the old lady shouts "HO!" and darts back into her door. Played those few seconds so many times, laughing. 👻

This was so great when it came out. I was 13 and saw it multiple times. I think tickets were $2.50 at the time. Ghostbusters 2 and Afterlife are good too. I still have to see the latest one. If you haven’t seen Stripes you should! It’s another BM and HR flick that’s silly and fun and a snapshot of the time.

I remember watching this as a kid when it first came out. They even had a cartoon called "The Real Ghostbusters" and that green ghost, who slimed Peter 14:05, kind of became the Ghostbuster's mascot of sorts. They named him Slimer and he lived with them in the Firehouse.

What makes this special is how much bigger the world seems than what we see. Definitely not a typical fairytale ghost story rooted in emotion: This is a gritty, comprehensive universe with compelling and strange archetypes. Who comes up with something like the Gozer/Zuul/Vinz/Traveler dynamic and the dimension we see in Dana's fridge? A comedy has no right being this visceral and interesting.

Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis definitely wrote this to feature Bill Murray's character. I actually saw this as an adult in 1984 in a theater and was laughing so hard I fell out of my seat. For the day, the special effects were pretty good but the dialogue was the real winner!

I was fortunate to watch this in the theaters as a 5 y/o when it was released in ‘84. I didn’t dress up as a ghostbuster but just like everyone else at the time I had a black t-shirt with the classic logo on it that I cherished. Also had a toy proton pack. Classic good times.

I saw this on the day it opened back in 1984. The movie theater was packed; I don't think there was an empty seat anywhere. I was 16 but somehow missed the "strong sexual content" - probably because I most remember two other takeaway moments when the audience completely lost it: The first was when Slimer takes down Bill Murray in the hotel hallway; the audience was roaring so loud I didn't hear the line "He slimed me." (I finally heard the line years later, watching the movie on a video tape rental.) The second incident was "Yes, it's true: this man has no dick." The audience roared for probably a solid 60 seconds. I miss being in a full movie theater like that, with that kind of spontaneous communal reaction. You'd find it in a sporting event if your team scores a goal, or perhaps at a rock concert. But that kind of community LAUGHing? Very rare indeed! Ghostbusters took over the culture of the country that summer. By the time "back-to-school" came around, all the students were sporting the Ghostbusters logo on T-shirts, on their Trapper Keepers, backpacks, everywhere.

OMG... Trapper Keepers! Now that just brought back some memories. The first time I ever saw one on the shelf among the back to school supplies, I thought it was the best invention ever. It had no pop art on it... it just came in a few different colors, and simply said "Trapper Keeper" on it. It became crazy popular in the years that followed, and they started sporting pop culture icons on them (ie: Scooby-Doo, Batman, Ghostbusters, etc).
