I think Japanese VAs often care a lot more about their stories than western actors do. Partially due to the difference in the industries' cultures, probably largely due to the difference between the overall cultures of the west and Japan.

@@alexanderholzer7392 I don't think they differ that much. Due to this being a after scene/podcast-like discussion, they can talk more in depth about their experience in the work. For actors on the other hand, they mostly get interviewed to promote the movies/dramas, thus they have very limited information that they can share due to spoiler issue. And I don't think western actors take part in long radio-like podcast talk? Thus they don't have much chances to share how they really portray the characters and such.

In my 1st time watching over all the monogatari series, i've always wondering why Koyokoyo and Hanekawa didn't come to be a couple, like...? They were so good, the love chemistry was also good from kizu. Then i rewatch the whole series again and again (during daily dishes washing) and i think that, Koyomi thoughts that Hanekawa is an ideal girl, like an idol, perfect while he's just a guy without friend but at the same time, Hanekawa thoughts that she is not that perfect, her past kept her away from being able to propose to Koyomi. They both can sacrificed to saved each other but they both can't push their relationship any harder, that's when Hitagi come, a full POWAHH active person that pulled Koyomi to her sides, she will do everything she can by herself >< Hanekawa was like a princess, waiting passively for her prince to come and save her, Koyomi can't be that prince, at least that was what he thought

Yeah you can see with this scene from Kizu how, even when Hanekawa is basically just letting Araragi do what he wants, he can't bring himself to overstep that boundary. I actually think that, even though Hanekawa genuinely loves Araragi, he can't see her as a romantic partner, there's a gap that puts them at odds with each other when it comes down to having a relationship. Also obviously, the fact that Hanekawa was never truly honest about her feelings for Araragi, and once Hitagi came into the picture it was already too late.

When even the VAs can see the inconsistency in the writing... Hanekawa and Araragi's relationship was the most troubling thing through out this whole movie for me. In particular this scene was a problem in terms of logic. At the end of the day I accepted it was just fan service for the sake of it since the source material for the movie was written fairly early on before other Monogataris were written. Still I was surprised that a VA would say something like "It's like a different character" since in most VA subbed videos I've seen most VAs seem like they wouldn't notice this sort of thing!

why is it inconsistent? she clearly likes him from the very beggining of the entire franchise. The problem lies in the fact that she is a pushover that never has the guts to say what she really feels. When extreme situations happen to people they connect faster. Her getting kidnapped and previously disemboweled made the relationship very strong very fast and they had a mutual care for each other, not to mention they are TEENAGERS, as horny and volatile emotionally as a human can get. The creation of the white tiger is a perfect justification for this scene. She never was brave enough, never spoke her mind, never had an impulse, and that stress built up slowly until she subconciously created an aberration that would act in her place. She wanted to have sex with him but didnt have the guts to convey her emotions. Fast forward a couple of weeks and koyomi gets swooped by an aggressive, dominant woman. It was only natural for hanekawa to feel jealousy and stress, and her character development makes even more sense after this scene.

After watching Kizumonogatari, I can't even BEGIN to understand WHY Koyomi and Hanekawa never actually became a couple. Don't get me wrong, Shinobu is my waifu and in my mind I want her and Koyomi to be a vampire couple forever and ever. But Kizu just made Koyomi and Hanekawa feel...so right together. Hell, even during most of Koyomi and Hanekawa's seyuu interactions they actually feel like a couple talking. Yeah, Senjou becoming Koyomi's girlfriend just felt like it was a poorly thought out decision by the writer from the very start.

I think Araragi has an intense need to be a hero/savior, otherwise he considers himself a failure. His desire to save others at any cost both drives the plot and defines his relationships. Coincidentally, the people he's closest to are usually the people that need the most saving - this is exemplified by his lifelong devotion to Shinobu who needs him to exist, and Senjou who needs him to share the burden of her traumas. Araragi may have saved a lot of girls and had a lot of chemistry with them, but Senjou is the one who needs him the most. In this regard, Hanekawa might be the least suitable partner for Araragi since she's probably the strongest and most independent heroine in the show. Also, most of her stories are more about her learning to love and accept herself with Araragi's actions taking the backseat. Hanekawa probably helps Araragi more than he helps her by the end of the series actually. My interpretation of why they're not together is neither of them feel like they're good enough for the other: Araragi because he can't help her, and Hanekawa because of the ridiculous standards she sets for herself. Of course none of this stops them from flirting all the time, even late into Araragi's relationship with Senjou. And Senjou seems pretty fine with it - I can lowkey see a threesome happening between them at some point - but I still don't see Araragi and Hanekawa becoming a real couple.

Didn't NekoKuro answer this question though. Araragi and Hanekawa's relationship wouldn't have worked out because from Hanekawa's perspective, Araragi was the white knight that he could never actually be and from Araragi's perspective Hanekawa was the flawless woman which she definitely wasn't. At the end she just was a pushover and never actualy grew as a person while Senjougahara grew significantly more as a person having undergone similar tough situations. She learns to be honest to herself while Hanekawa fails to do so. Also NisioIsisn wrote Araragi and Senjougahara's relation before he expanded on Hanekawa and Araragi's relation. If anything was poorly thought out (which isn't the case imo), wouldn't it be the latter relationship instead? If Araragi and Hanekawa and amazing chemistry for two seasons while Araragi and Senjougahara's chemistry wasn't the best and the NisioIsin paired Araragi and Senjougahara then that would be a badly written romance. I think this is one of the problems with the airing order. People are not able to connect Hanekawa's development in Kizu with Neko Kuro and Neko Shiro. Its supposed to be a trilogy of the tragedy of Hanekawa. Kizu would make you care for her and then and Neko Kuro shows her in a very negative light. Neko Shiro then works as a conclusion for both Hanekawa's character arc and Hanekawa and Araragi's relation.

Having good chemistry doesn't equate to being a good couple. The main problem here is that neither one of them were the type to formally acknowledged each other as one in a relationship unless somebody else makes the move first. As for the relationship between Senjou and Araragi, I actually thought it was very well written how much their relationship evolved from the start of the series all the way to the latest development, because they overcame so many challenges together. Senjougahara herself is a nice character that a lot of people can learn from because numerous times she put herself emotionally at risk in order to get closer to Koyomi, and all of those efforts paid off. In fact, I feel this is another reason why I believe Hanekawa would never have been in a serious relationship with Araragi, because never in the series have we seen her take risks to chase after a goal.
