This is a beautiful tank. it reminds me of when in high school (35 years ago) one of my best friends built a 300 gallon river tank. We live in the Appalachian foothills in southern Ohio, so the fish aren't very exotic, but he built a local ecosystem in his basement. Minnows, catfish, common (not asian) carp, local river clams, crawdads, and whatever plant life he dug out of the riverbed while he was gathering clams. He set it up so the water flowed constantly from one end of the tank to the other. It was pretty awesome.
@macc.1132 Жыл бұрын
Really cool that it was stocked with local flora and fauna! The believe the most biodiverse portion of river in North America(!) is in Ohio, in the Columbus area, and your part of state is likely just as biodiverse (historically). I believe part of the reason for the biodiversity is due in part because of all the different mollusks that inhabit those old Appalachian river systems. Heavy industry has really done a number on them - clams and mussels do not tolerate polluted water at all. Countless species have likely been lost to extinction since the formation of the USA. American Indians and early European settlers used to feast on them and even find pearls, they were so plentiful. Freshwater mollusks are some of the most endangered group of organisms worldwide.

Very nice. And I mean that to describe the entire store. I was in the aquarium industry in SE Florida USA for many years. Started off working at the local shop in the mid 1980's when I was around 13 years old. We were the premier aquarium shop in Pembroke Pines, FL which is a western suburb of Ft Lauderdale. It was a full line pet shop but we went strictly aquarium in the mid 1990's and by that time I was doing most of the sales, installation and service of aquariums in the area. I eventually took over the business and ran it until around 2010 when I sold off my service clients because my side business of boat lights took off. I sometimes miss the business. That river tank is awesome. Back in the day the big thing was the live reef. I was there when the first "wet/dry" filter and protein skimmer hit the market. We had our own brand of W/D filters and protein skimmers back then. We did very well back in the 80's and 90's. Then the internet came and it was tough for a little shop like us to survive. I eventually did only service and installation which as mentioned ended in early 2010.

I have been raising goldfish for most of my life. I began working at a large chain store a couple of years ago. I was put in charge of the pet department, then tanks were installed and fish sent three days later. I have spent the last nine months learning everything I can. I have failed miserably a million times, almost quit, kept going. My three tiny tanks at home (3,5, 10), are thriving, because I do understand how this all works. I remember getting my first algae in the four bays of tanks at work and, seven months later, I am breeding snails, segregating sensitive fish, and fighting stupid. I really appreciate this video. There is a female... That's nice. I can see how things should work. That's nice. This video gave me refinement and goals. Thank you all.

My friend and I joked about setting up multiple pumps on a tank. We called this theoretical filter the D-Stacked 6/8 because of how we would have to orient the pumps and how many we’d use. We calculated our turnover and realized we’d only be able to keep certain river fish in it because it would be too strong for most fish we were keeping at the time. Seeing this being done in real life is so funny. 100 turn overs in an hour. Wow, phenomenal tank.

I love this. I have a small creek on my property and I set up a 90 gal aquarium with what I found in the creek. Rocks, branches and freshwater clamshells for the landscape, then small trout and sunfish swimming around. A crayfish patrols the bottom. I also tried sticklebacks but for some reason they do not survive in my tank after a few days. From time to time I take a bucket and net down to the creek to restock. I put in a power head at the suggestion of my local aquarium shop guy as the trout like some current when they feed and it kind of represents a slice of my creek but what you've done here is the ideal form of what I wanted. A true slice of a brook indoors. If that had some cutthroats swimming in it my dad would go nuts.

Wow, amazing tank! Reminds me of a, now called a paludarium, tank that I made in the 80s so archer fish could hunt from plants and surfaces above. This is gorgeous, and cool to see how fish behave in current and structure, but also wonder if it's odd if any are captive bred. But yes, that must have it's own energy bill running all of those pumps.

*_Kaity this Aquarium looks Awesome in video... it must be even more Awesome seeing it in person._* We can't really hear or smell this living and breathing ecosystem from video. Can only imagine how incredible experiencing this in person must be. If I ever get to Brisbane, I will certainly visit shop to view. There is so much going on in tank it is hard to think it's only 1000L. It looks much bigger because of how they set it up. Lots of variety in fish, plants, rocks, gravel, lighting, water features, and more. Would love having this in my house built into a wall as permanent living 'artwork'. I have two 60 Gallon Freshwater Tanks in my Living Room. They are setup on either side of my Gas Fireplace. It's all in a cozy corner with a Love Seat Couch facing it. I have to finish setting up this year. I could even place tanks end to end and have it look like one 120 Gallon Tank. I've even thought about going from Freshwater to Saltwater. *_Thanks for sharing... everyone loves Amazing Aquariums._*
