Limnophila is a magnificent plant for aquariums, but be aware once it starts growing, it will grow *really* fast, so you need to keep cutting it back regularly. On the plus side, it is a sponge for nitrates and fosfates, so it help tremendously with the water quality of the tank. It is literally my favorite stem plant because it is so easy to grow. Cheers from Scandinavia!

That Val is going to get huge. It would look good in one of your African tanks. Dwarf sag is probably a better option for the smaller tanks. It still gets to a good size and it'll give you that grass look you're after.

Beautiful tank as a native of Miami and a transplant to Jacksonville. I’m very familiar with Florida. The Everglades in fact is not a swamp but a slow moving river. It is known as the river of grass might want to keep that in mind when you’re making your tank but keep going, enjoy yourself. You’re doing fantastic.

Looks good. That val can get up to 4 feet long(around 120cm) but you can trim it as desired. Hornwort is a good plant, but I can't keep it in the substrate, it usually breaks away and turns in to a floating mass. It does grow pretty quickly, I have to thin it out monthly or my tanks get too dark.

Hello Kaity. How's it going. Got back in this morning from Los Angeles to Brisbane around 4:55 Am. Bit Cool out at the Airport this Morning. Absolutely Glorious day to fly in, even though it was dark it was awesome with the sun chasing us across the Pacific. Molly the Magpie seems like an unwanted guest ??. Magpies can be awfully territorial. Might go west tomorrow to Toowoomba & do some activities, Catch up with some friends. Awesome Video & Really well Narrated. Like I said you certainly know your Work. It is so Cool to see People like yourself involved in this Hobby as you bring a lot of Fresh Air into what had sort of become very Dull & Boring. June is a good month to go to the United States but July is usually Better. After being there until Saturday there time before flying back I saw some reports for the weather long term & it's not very nice in the immediate future especially in the Mid Western States & they have been absolutely smashed by Storms heralding Tornados & not a great thing to get caught in as I found out back in 2022 in Oklahoma with some pretty big Storms with Tornadoes. Is your Bird a type of Peach Face Parakeet ??. We have a pair of Red Tailed Black Cockatoos & a few others out back in the aviary. Have a Great Day. Regards John

Hello kaity So glad to see you've finally seen the light!! A planted tank!!!😂 That is a cool tank you got set up for speckles. I think he might want some Company so he doesn't feel lonely. Just some advice, don't use to much liquid fertilizer. I have a heavily planted tank myself (with CO2 setup) and i hardly use it. I only use it when the plants start showing signs of a shortage(Yellow or deformed leaves) In your Malawi tank i wouldn't even use it at all,it Will probably only benefit the bb algae. I'm totally with you on the low tanks, they are the coolest! Say hi to our punky little friend Laila!!
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын
Hahaha, I am very slowly getting accustomed to plants 🤣 and ok, that's good to know, thank you for the tip! I haven't added any liquid fertiliser to the Malawi tank yet and so far the black beard has lessened but the Anubias is getting a tad yellow on some leaves so I may need to do something for it. And Laila says hello 🦜🦜🦜
@max.03287 ай бұрын
Usually when your plants have Yellow leaves it's a sign they suffer from An iron shortage.(Easylife has bottles of just iron fertilizer too ) You can always try to use fertilizer and see what happens with the plants and algae. You know every tank is different, so it's always a bit of trial and error on how much and how Often to use it.but if you're still doing those 80% waterchanges every week,than it Will be removed quickly anyway. Have a great week!!🙂

In the future you might have better luck with an underlayer of some sort of aquasoil which will provide nutrients for the plants though the root tabs should help. Also another biotope plant you should look into is guppy grass
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын
I did consider that, but I was told aquasoils can cause an ammonia spike at first, whereas the tabs don't cause such an influx of nutrients initially. I think when I redo it and can have it without fish for a while I might use some aquasoil

Will Speckles be getting some new friends? I kind hope so. 🙂 His tank looks great, and as it settles and the plants fill in it'll look even better. Just a thought: you may want to get some sort of root tab fertilizers since there are really no nutrients in the sand. I gotta tell ya, I really love that long, low tank on the upper shelf. And not just what you've done with it (cuz that looks fantastic), but the tanks itself! I love how it's happening right before our eyes . . . Kaity's developing MTS - Multiple Tank Synrome! 🙂 Before we know it, your garage will be full of racks and tanks. I'm looking forward to see what you'll end up doing with that. 🙂 As always, Kaity, have a fantastic week ahead! Cheers! ~Ron

Really cool video! The rack system is certainly coming along well! Can't wait to see the USA trip stuff too, that sounds fun! If you ever visit the UK, you should definitely check out Sweet Knowle Aquatics which is where I get my fish from. They have a really good range of fish, especially African and South American cichlids, and even have their own pet Red Tailed Catfish called Eric they rescued from somewhere years ago! Aquarium gardens are really good too, especially for aquascaping. The Florida tank idea is really good, definitely needs the alligator for the full Florida experience 😁🐊Have you considered breaking the Dwarf Blyxa into smaller pieces and spreading them out into a carpet, and maybe even adding something like some small rock chippings on top of the substrate to break up the sand as that could look pretty natural! Speckles certainly will have a great aquarium to live in!
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын

@@Kaityscichlids no worries! Been going to that aquatics shop since I was little, the red tailed catfish they think is 41 years old! They also have some kind of freshwater eels as pets and an arowana too! Will you be getting any more mollies and other North American species for your Florida tank? Think I've finally sorted the algae problem in my nano aquarium finally, the leaves on the plants are actually bright greens for a change and look healthy 😀😀 The shrimp are doing good in there too, and I'll probably add some fish to it in a couple of weeks time, can't decide what to get yet other than maybe dwarf pencilfish!
