Kaiweets HT206B AC Current Probe review testing a Counterpoint SA1000 Hybrid Pre-Amplifier

This video is a review of the Kaiweets HT206B AC Current Clamp and we take measurements on a Counterpoint SA1000 Hybrid Pre-Amplifier to get a real-life application for the meter. This AC current probe has the features that allow in-circuit testing, so we will show what we can measure. It is a 6000 count T-RMS multimeter with AC current clamp.

Thanks for the video Eddie! So I was tracing out a chip in a board the other day and I do appreciate a fast response from the continuity function while dragging the probe across the pins. I'm wondering, if the claws of such current probe is just a litte too small when measuring a very big wire, if it will work by placing a nut or piece of iron between the claws, to close the core of the coil ?

The jaws are easily large enough to do wiring in a home - but maybe I should get a sample of 0 AWG or 00 AWG to check size;). Thanks for that great feedback!

Looks like it would be of use to an electrician. I’d be more interested in a current probe rather than a clamp meter, something like the AIM I-Prober 520. No fun with continuity though :)

Dear Eddie, I watched your review of the keewats HT206B clamp meter and it is good review but please could you the check clump meter for the AC current 100 mA and lower. I think that there is problem to measure ac current bellow 150 ma Ac. I have simillar clamp ht206d and I have this problem . I hope you will check it for me and all others who plan to buy same one. Have you tried the UNI-T UT210E clamp meter? Just ordered the new Pro version from Aliexpress and for 33€ I'm not expecting much but for my purposes it should be ok. I have this LED build and need to measure DC current. With a normal multimeter it's a pain.. actually I already shorted stuff out while trying but luckily I didn't destroy anything. Here's a diagram how I did it wrong. imgur.com/lAmrOWv I now know I should somehow break the circuit and put the multimeter in between but I can't find any good pictures showing me where to connect the probes. Who knows how long will it take for the meter to arrive. Getting a little inpatient. Hope it's decent meter when it does.

Thanks for your info and diagram. I think that meter should work. You can wrap the wire around the clamp on to get better accuracy if needed. If you make two loops, then just divide by twice what you see in the display. If you have a meter that measures amps, you can take either lead from your power supply and put it into say the 10 Amp terminal and then take a wire out of your common to the connector that all the LEDs are plugged into. The current will travel through the meter now and you will see a current reading. If it is negative, you just hooked it up backwards, but its OK.

Would have liked to see if the unit can measure ac currents above power line frequencies. Most clamp meters can't. Doesn't mention this in the spec, so probably not. I was a little disappointed that an audio guy wouldn't test this, at least up to 20 kHz. Most of the testing that was done would have been more appropriate for a regular meter. A clamp meter should be tested mostly for the clamp meter functionality.

Thanks - you are right - I should have. I didn't expect the bandwidth of the Current reading to go out even to 2 kHz like the voltage did. I'm used to seeing these types of meters go out to just below 1 kHz for current readings - but I need to start checking that. Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah there were a few short moments where the focus went soft but for the majority of the video it is in HD. Make sure that the HD is selected for playback so that the video doesn't play back in a lower quality based on a lower speed connection.
