I've actually been recently restoring orchestration rolls for myself and a buddy and it's been it's been an interesting experience and kinda fun. Farming the materials for the blank rolls isn't too hard but make sure you also get the right enchanted ink as they tend to use different ink per expansion

Serious hoarder tip about the lvl1 glamour sets: Lets say you have a full set, but 2 pieces are HQ and 2 pieces are NQ - just rightclick on the HQ pieces and pick "lower quality". It asks you if you really want to do that and if you click ok: TADA you have 4 pieces all NQ and you can put them together as a set!

Those boxes aren’t very useful for alt leveling. Generally what you will do on alts is buy a full set of tomestone gear from the catch-up vendor, and that will carry you until the next expansion cap. If you have alt brainrot like me, you’ll have a DIFFERENT problem where you need to dedicate a full retainer to holding on to these sets until you can take the other jobs that wear them through that level range. That, or you’ll have to rebuy the tomestone gear again, which might be fine since there’s not much to spend them on and you probably are collecting poetics ambiently in your everyday activities.

Regarding the tip about not throwing away Alliance Raid gear: This is only true of gear from Ivalice on, and a few specific HW/ARR sets. Most of the Crystal Tower and Void Ark series gear has been rereleased in some easier to obtain, better textured, dyeable form and can be ignored. Labyrinth: Prestige PVP Gear Syrcus Tower: This one I think is still unique World of Darkness: Chromite (Stormblood Green Crafted set/Mt. Gulg) Void Ark: Nightsteel (Stormblood Green Crafted set) Mhaach/Dun Scaith: Facet (ShB Green Crafted set/Lapis Manalis). This is the tough one because the Facet set mixes designs from both, and the Lapis set i think rearranges some classes and is undyeable so there might be some sets in here that aren't carried thru in their entirety. "Does a set have multiple versions in the game" tho is a question you should ask yourself for most gear since a lot of older gear got rereleased. My prio system for that is: 1) Which version has the most dye channels? 2) Which version can be stored as an entire outfit? 3) Which version is the easiest to obtain. So for example at this point the "Virtu" PVP versions of HW artifact gear can be stored as an entire outfit and are in generally higher quality, but only have 1 dye channel, while the actual Artifact Gear has two dye channels so I'd prefer the AF gear version. But on the other hand the Mountain Linen sets are both double dyeable and easier to obtain via in game shops than the original counterpart from the Troia Dungeon (no dyes and an expert dungeon so you cannot reliably farm)

i would ad to that "which version works best with my intended look" as some alternate versions have different non-dyable color parts. i'm currently running the city of skalla on repeat for example, to get the caster gloves for an outfit. there is the craftable saigskin armguards that shares the style, but has a different color theme, and the gloves don't work with my outfit at all, due to the non-dyable parts being grey instead of black

+1 - Early on when I was running NieR raids weekly, I got the aiming hood from the first one and I traded it for GC scrips and I have NOT been loved by RNGesus since, even though I've run it dozens of times. You could get rid of every crafting mat that isnt obtained on a timer because they are the easiest to obtain since you can go farm things like iron ore whenever you want as opposed to something like lumythrite ore every 2 am & 2 pm ingame time.

I didn't know you could max out the armoire.. it doesn't have a storage limit, just a limit of which items can be stored in there. I have 2 retainers, 400-500 spare glamour dresser slots and a completely empty inventory, I only carry what I need.

3:26 If you're a crafter, you can desynthesize it instead. It grants desynth exp, some materials and crystals. Desynthing unwanted equipment from extreme trials to make into new items is a great way to make gil, and the mats and crystals stack. I think there is also a dedicated desynthesis menu to help you figure out what to desynthesis, I recently used something like that to clear out my armour chest when I reached endgame. If there is, it's somewhere in the traits & actions window.

some people may consider this unhinged, but it works for me and i've seen way too many friends have messy inventories. But i have NEVER used the "autosort" inventory feature, i decided i have designated spots for my inventory (i use the double window inventory, not the just 1 window big one, it doesn't really matter, it just works better for me this way) Meaning i have desigated spots for materia, designated spots for crafting materials that i'm currently gathering or i need for current expansion stuff (the rest gets stored on a designated retainer). So having designated spots withing my inventory helps me keep track of what shuld be where and what should just not be on my inventory, since i have spots on the first pages that are "must be empty" spaces, for stuff that i get on dungeons and i desynth, or stuff that i gather and sell, or collectionables to hand in, basically anything that i know i have to sell or will be gone sooner or later The same way that i have designated spots for foods and potions (like crafting food or Deep dungeon potions) My inventory is nowhere near perfect...but being honest, and having seen what atrocities other people have, i'd say i'm pretty proud of my inventory management

I do a hybrid version. For my retainers I use the auto sort. But for my inv and Chocobo saddlebag I manually sort them. But each retainer has a specific type of item I store in it. One for materia. One for mats. I don’t make too many glams.

auto sort works fine for me, as long as i have at least 1 piece of gear in my inventory. that way i got large open space on my first page that fills up with new stuff, so i can easily use/sort through things. without gear, it puts the empty space on the 3rd page instead

I did a full spring cleaning on my dresser at the end of Endwalker and cleared up like 300 spaces. I do have 4 retainers, first holds older gather/crafter materia, totems, misc stuff. Second holds ARR to SB mats till ive finished doing all my achievements. Third holds my ShB and EW mats for similar reasons. Last retainer holds everything DT. My chocobo inventory holds all DT materia (craft, gather, skill speed and the normal battle ones) along with DT bait for fishing. I figure when the new expansion is close ill go through my dresser again, hopefully be done with crafting things from ARR to ShB and just hold onto EW/DT mats

The Relic Replicas from Drake (ARR) can only be obtained if you currently HAVE the zeta weapon. If you turned in the Zeta weapon to bypass the first step in the HW relic you won't be able to get the replica's again! Be aware of this when deleting those.

If you turn in a completed Zeta weapon as part of that first anima relic quest, you absolutely can obtain the replicas from Drake again. I personally tested this earlier this year when I completed every single Zeta weapon since this was a major concern of mine as far as hoarding completed relics solely for potential glamour sake. You are correct though if you dispose of the completed Zeta relic (hell, if you don't even have it on your person!) via ANY other means, then you cannot obtain the replicas from him.

@crimsonaltair Maybe after you turn one in, it changes? I went over to drake before posting that comment and he told me i had to have the weapon in my possession. I've never turned in a zeta weapon for the anima weapon so i wouldn't know other than what he tells me right now 🤷🏻‍♂️

A small tip, but all of the gear from the Labyrinth of the Ancients lv 50 24-man raid, the T2 Coils of Bahamut gear, AND lv. 60 job gear + some job gear for jobs introduced in later expansions can be obtained as a lv. 1 outfit glamour set from PVP trophy crystals at the wolves' den, the only difference is they have different base color schemes and higher quality textures, but they are dye-able, so the base colors don't matter much. If you like those looks, no need to farm Labyrinth or that one Coils raid, or hold onto your lv 60 sets because you don't want to buy them again with Centurio hunt seals, AND you can save space using the new outfit system with those sets, it just takes doing some PVP.

Tips I personaly use: 1 - Always have your retainers sell something. A retainer with a few empty store slots can be a call to think about what you don't need. A retainer with less than 5 items selling is an order to dig around and find what you don't need. 2 - Use the "stock new items in the back of the inventory" thingy option. Everything at the back of the inventory is temporary/sellable/to be used shortly. And displace every permanent use items (free TP vouchers, cordials, stacks of Eureka/deep dungeon potions, food, versatile lures, glamour prisms, etc.) to the first pages. The space between the two is your allowance in new items. Seeing it shrinking as worked me down from three and a half pages of inventory down to less than two in "permanent use" over the course of a year all while making me pace my content and sell a bunch of stuff. 3 - Be ugly/Don't care about glam. Still has me with a nearly full arsenal... But at least I got space in the glam dresser. Ok that one is maybe unfair.

The companion app lets you do the entrust duplicates thing across all your retainers and saddlebag and inventory at once. It was a major help in my spring cleaning before DT.

the biggest suggestion i have is checking something like garlandDB! a lot of times things that show up in alliance raids or are limited get reused as sets you can buy or craft. for instance: one of the endwalker patch DOW/M items can be bought for wolf marks. some of the arr alliance raid items can be bought for crystals from pvp. the Pagalthan 80 set can now be obtained from DT 91 dungeon, which also gives you the guaranteed drop system. Similarly the skallic set has a craftable variant in Endwalker. If you can get it from an alternative easier spot, that's worth considering. (But so is if it dyes differently or has a different color scheme; skallic set is red/white while it's EW version is gray/blue)

Extra tip: use your retainer as an extra set of glamour clothes. All the venture system cares about is the level of the gear so as long as it's max level, you can put a set of clothes you like (like a set of the current raid tier or alliance raid), but don't use often so you can take it out when you want/need them! Also, for those of you thinking about the relics, do NOT get rid of the finished Bozja relics (and Manderville relics for RPR and SGE) to get the replicas instead. They're still BiS for several of the old Ultimates, so you'll be shooting yourself on the foot if you ever decide to do them.

I have so far, saved over 130 slots in the glamour dresser with the new outfit storage bodge. I also feel like Yoshi-P personally owes me hundreds of glamour prisms and several dyes, because BOY HOWDY is it annoying you also have to pull out the items to put them back in.

A few things I've found helped: - some crafting materials are only used for a few recipes. Once I get the proof of completion checks, it's WAY easier to get rid of. - the novice network is an amazing way to offload things that feel bad throwing at vendors like some duplicate glams or minions. - progressing relics together can save space - rather than having 12x atma AND the 18x items for the last step and 10x in-flight weapons at the same time, etc, it's more space-efficient to get all the atma step done as a batch, then the next, etc. - old materials for old crafts don't need to be HQ - lowering quality can save a good amount of space. Think this freed up a page or so, maps are notorious for giving a mix without you realising.

being extremely picky and playing a race that has it a bit harder to pull of more cutesy glams also helps. I'm playing a female HL and they do look weird in a lot of glams, especially in the cute ones. I'm at best at 400 Slots in the Dresser. Granted that comes with a meltdown a la "nothing looks good on my Character" here and there. But i have an Alt, that i can hop on to and play for the five minutes that meltdown lasts and then i'm back to loving my HL. (don't take me too serious ;D) As for Mats: Knowing your market and what you want to sell helps a lot. I for one don't participate in "end game gear" crafting as i hate the undercutting. so i found other things to craft and make gil with. I only keeps those mats. Sure i have more than the two retainers, but i'm far away from having max. retainers. If i need to craft end game gear for myself, i just gather the (almost) exact numbers myself or let my retainers get it, craft the needed stuff and sell the excess. Teamcraft helps with planning what Mats are needed and how much i need of each mat. It also helps to have a designated Retainer for Glam and another one for Mats (like i have one Retainer for Miner Stuff and intermediates and one for Botanist and Leather) and so on. If they're full, i have to sort them out. It makes it easier to not have different stacks on different Retainers. Max. amount of Mats is one stack. I usually don't even have too many intermediates flying around. I craft them quickly, if i need them or if they're cheap enough i buy them. I'm actually pretty good with keeping my inventory clean. If i have more than one page full in my inventory, i consider it messy and sort it out. My Retainers are far from full. I regularly clean them out. My messiest inventory is probably my Saddlebag, as i put stuff in there, with the intention to deal with it later and then forget about for weeks on end.

Think of the Marketboard as an extension of your inventory. Anything that can be bought and sold on the MB is fungible; you can sell it and buy back an indistinguishable copy later, and unless something suddenly causes the price to skyrocket, the most you'll be out is the small amount of market tax. So let the MB hold that half-stack of Effervescent Water for you until the next time you need Natron for something, then just stroll up to a board and buy back however much you need. It'll probably be about the same price as you sold it for. The only exception is saddlebag mats, by which I mean the collection of materials for things you're likely to be crafting in the immediate future and may want if you hit downtime somewhere away from the MB. This would mostly include materials for current collectables or crafting projects, and maybe a few staple items. (If you carry a few pigments in your saddlebag, you can whip up a wide variety of dyes on the spot, in case you see an opportunity for color coordination--or a funny color gag.) That should cover you while you're out waiting for a timed node...or when every other member of your map party suddenly has to answer the door, pee, or deal with spouse/child aggro.

A specific train of thought has helped me a lot with materials: "If you sell something with a stagnant price, you can just buy it back later if it turns out you needed it. The price will still be similar, so usually you'll break even anyway." Using the market board as a type of storage like this, where you equalise everything to gil, you'll save tons of space.

a huge asterisk you neglected to mention on ARR relics is you need the weapon in your player inventory or armory chest to access the menu for purchasing that weapon's replicas unless you turned it in for the HW first step(this might also apply to discarding the weapon)

i only have the default 2 retainers, 1 holds crafting materials, usually hq ones i get from desynth, treasure maps, or rare nodes, occasionally i clean up old/low value mats and sell them the other retainer hold things i'm saving, like some outdoor furniture (recently lost my small house due to health related inactivity) a few gear coffers, relic materials, and other limited stuff, liek treasure maps. both of them still have lots of space though, and i make sure to never get them filled to max my chocobo carries things i need regularly but not all the time, like rare dyes, fate boss drops,emote items (fireworks, confetti), raid tokens, or xp buff manuals. i'm not a high content raider, so i have no need for pentamelding and stuff, so i usually sell my materia, only crafters and gatherers materia get saved parallel to my crafters level for the next gear upgrade. the biggest clutter in my inventory comes from 3 things: gear that i haven't handed in to the gc yet, food that i keep forgetting to eat, and all these crystal clusters and stuff and yes, the new set feature is great imo, as long as you don't use rare dyes by default. i went through only the glam i already had in my dresser, and managed to empty around 90 or so slots, mostly from msq gear. i'm down to ~450 now. if i invest some time and gil to complete other sets where i only use half the times, i can make even more space. and on the rare occasion that there's an item i put into the dresser pre-dyed with pure white for example, i'll just get a 2nd copy of that 1 item for the set, so i'll save 2 slots instead of 3, but still better than none.

I’m trying to figure out two things. 1-Materia: While I do like the idea of cleaning out the Materia inventory I’ve collected, I think the Materias level 1-4 would need to be hung onto for the sake of relic crafting if I recall. Of course if you’re not doing that, then get rid of them, but there are no other examples of hanging onto additional earned materia beyond that right? Nothing else the requires Materia after level 4 outside of the current patch right? 2- relic armors. I didn’t know the realm reborn armors could be stashed away so I’ll look into that, but beyond that, the only relevant armor that serves an additional purpose is just the level 70 armors that work with Eureka, right? If so, that could give me a reason to toss out the level 80 or others that are taking up space that doesn’t have any additional purpose. Beyond that, I hope I can clear some space. For your 1-4 Materia, if you're able to I would make an alt and have them join your FC to transfer the items over, or ask a friend help you with the transfer. Unless you're actively spirit bonding a lot of low level gear, you're probably not extracting a lot of 1-4s

A note on ARR Job Artifact armors is that the upgraded dyeable versions cannot be put in the Armoire, while the default undyeable versions can be stored in the Armoire.

The armoire icon thing is LIFE CHANGING. I remember when they started making Mogstation items armoire-able, but I couldn’t tell which were and weren’t. Now I know what to look for and I look forward to clearing some space tonight. /o/ (Same goes for the NPC sellables! I only use those for Fashion Report so may as well toss the ones that are meh.)

Important note about gathering and crafting materia. Don't keep it all! From what I've seen, optimized melds only ever attempt to optimize your points, rather than your main or substat. So feel free to dump out all that extra materia. Also, you don't NEED to perfectly optimize those points. There is no penalty for melding materia with a bonus reaching beyond a gear's limit. Failure percentages could be a bit more favourable, depending on what you're trying to meld on where, but it could hurt the wallet less if you buy a significantly cheaper materia. As an example, I recall one piece of the Indagator's crafting set requiring a crafting point +1 to fully optimize its stats. Those were going for several thousand Gil each. I look at the +2s, and they're barely over 100 each. Don't be afraid of the red text!

I'm an inventory and organizational junkie, so I like this type of discussion and tips/tricks. 😂 I am constantly going through and trying to prune my 4 retainers' inventories, my own inventory, and my glamour dresser. I follow a lot of similar rules mentioned here. I also impose a rule limiting the amount of glamour I keep for jobs I hardly ever play, whether it's easy to obtain or not. For example, I don't keep many, if any, melee-specific or healer-specific gear pieces but permit myself to keep a lot of tank or aiming gear. I limit myself to MAYBE one glamour weapon for these rarely-played jobs if it's difficult to obtain. I also recently went through the insane process of completing all of my normal crafting log up to Dawntrail (still have to finish CUL technically but on the to-do list). I sold basically every other material that was not relevant for current crafting otherwise.

It took YEARS but I finally saw the tail end of the devaluing switch and it started happening with items from PoTD. Apparently it's been neglected for so long its items (that used to cost 1 gil sometimes!) can now go for 100k.

With the outfit glamours, I REALLY hope that they expand it to job artifact gear. They should all be storable in the armoire, but if they insist on it being in the dresser, at least let us save them as full sets. That means if there's a few pieces of gear from an older job set that you like, it only takes up one slot instead of the 5-6

fun and easy to follow tips! as a lala main, i dont have too much trouble keeping my glam dresser clean (bc lets be honest, a lot of gear is not exactly flattering for us waddly fucks) but i am horrible when it comes to crafting materials, especially since i always have the "i might need this for crafting later, especially housing" so i do have to regularily go through and check my hoard for materials that are ACTUALLY USED in furnishing recipes. same with ink; i make decent enough gil rolling on weathered orchestrion rolls whenever i get the chance to, restoring and selling them. took me not too long to weed out all the enchanted inks that are only used in book recipes or other shit but not in orchestrions. when hoarding and weeding out crafting materials, its good to really think about what u are hoarding mats for, and if all of the hoarded mats are actually part of the equation.

My biggest inventory hogs are bait & items I use for macro icons. I just *know* the one time I ditch the special bait for the spectral current fish is the one time it's going to pop... And it's such a silly customization but I love seeing my rez macros with the Scions' notable gear & the color coded gems for carbuncle & fairy glamours.

The xiv companion app helps a crap ton for referencing duplicate item stacks. You can transfer between retainers in the app. Not sure if the free version can do it, but it works in the paid version.

If you still have all those gear coffers from the quests, you can use them to turn in for exp in the GC for your crafters, or if you reached a point where they are no longer in the lv range for their turn in to appear... just use it for you jobs, or, do a quick market search and pop it to sell as whichever has the highest price...

So -- you forgot something else to help clean some of your inventory -- Desynthsis. Desynthing is also a great way to clear inventory and at the same get materials either to reuse or sell depending on the items you are breaking down. Great for glam and housing items when applicable. Oh yeah farming an Expert Dungeon for one specific piece can be a nightmare, it took me over 100 runs of Saint Mocianne's Arboretum for the Coat of the Daring Duelist for my Reaper glam. At least my glam looks good with it and I haven't used any other chest pieces for my Reaper since.

Working on Relics is a trap, all the expansion except EW are heavy with poetic or seal material like inks, Penumite, Singing Clusters, materia I-IV, Protean Crystals from all 4 Eureka maps, Louhi Pen Paz mats, Umbrite, 4 of the Unidentifiable stuff, GC Bombcores and the other 4 mats tgat go with the Unidentifiable stuff, Timeworn Artifacts For EW all you need js 4 spaces for all the steps nd although its the worse relic set up in the game, it is the easiest and most manageable out of the previous expansions. The only upside in working on all of them simultaneously is because steps in HW are similar to steps in ShB like the Fates and unlocking Eureka Bozja gives you an area to farm poetics for the poetic hungry HW and EW relics

Hey there! Nier raid fanatic here, it might apply to other alliance raids i havent tested, but one time i asked my friends to help me get into the copied factory and puppets factory etc, just me and two other to fill out the requirement. Once I got in, they could leave instantly and I would solo some of the bosses until a certain point. Like in copied factory it was until Engels I couldn't solo because of the adds buffing each other when not separated. It took me about over 30 minutes each boss at lvl 90 war. I have yet to try it at lvl 100. I know that takes fucking ages but I just love the raid and music x')

3:25 Noooo 😢potential Gil if the item can be desynthesized, as it normally gives a crafting item and crystals for crafting. Highly recommend doing that if it’s an option, instead of throwing away, if you have room for your retainer to sell it, or could use the material.

I always sell materials It is rare for materials to go up in price as time goes on. Usually they go down. By a lot And because of that, what selling them does is stack all the items into just one pile. I didn't lose anything because I can get back the material easily. And it cleared up one slot for me

They can solve many issues by copying other games. (1) Glamour / Space in one easy move. COPY the WoW Transmog system. It really is that simple! (2) Remove or increase Currency Capacity or add a Token that can stack and be converted back to a currency that has cap. (Trophies, Wolf Seals, GC Seals, etc.) (3) Reduce Amount of different Materia, or remove it completely. You can keep the system but make it an NPC interaction that cost the Crystals. No more need to worry about it. When you Spirit Bond gear, it gives you 1 of the two Crystals. Less RNG. (4) Reduce Material needed across Crafting / Gathering even further. (5) Reduce HQ/NQ foods and potions. Make crafted consumable items just at default HQ value. Suddenly a lot of inventories are better off.

For previous expansion crafter/gather materia, unless you want to sell it for high profits, I recommend not storing any. Instead, keep your island sanctuary up to date for a healthy amount of cowries. This lets you simply buy rank 9 materia to fill those penta melds with. Will it overcap? Yes. Does it matter when you have infinite amounts of them? No.

It’s up to you obviously, but in heavensward I hoarded every piece if thavnarian silk from every treasure map group They did sit dead in my inventory for two years as their value tanked in Stormblood. But then I made millions using them to craft the thavnarian set once dancer came out. So up to you to decide but things in game can change that cause old items to spike in value

Yo, Bobbin from ex-Sarga(Lindblum) here. Anyhoo, still keeping me 2 retainers here. My general rule for mostly craft mats is: if mb-worth of it is less than 200 gil & no saw immediate needs, just sell/npc em. Also, think mb as ur unlimited extension storage, with a fee. ;)

If you own a house, you can check if your materials can be used to craft furniture and then store it in the house. 👍
