One thing I will never forget is that, up until they started calling the Endless Waltz units "Ver EW" and when they were all called "Custom", Altron was so different compared to the other 4 and only called one thing in Endless Waltz they literally just sold it as Gundam Nataku and everyone i knew just thought it was a new gundam.

Seems a bit off that a Tallgeese would blow up from colliding into a Leo. It blew up an entire fortified base occupying the Sanc Kingdom just by crashing into the place, a Leo would normally be a smear in that scenario. Also I guess Wufei gets to join Shinn Asuka for “Worst shot in a Gundam”.

An interesting story, though I will say not a fan of these origin stories for our heroic pilots. The reason is the stories not only break areas of cannon but the bigger reason is they do seem to conflict with the personalities of the pilots later in the series. Duo's is the only one that seems consistent with his personality while the others just raise more questions than answers. Such as why these individuals chose to become the Gundam pilots.

Well Bandai seem to be releasing one Gundam from Wing each year. First it was Sandrock, then Heavyarms last year and Deathscythe last month. The Wing & Wing Zero were released years ago so only the Shenlong remains for the early Gundam gang. Unless Bandai do the Tallgeese first...

@@flamestoyershadowkill The(mass retail release) RG Tallgeese represents the EW/GotL version of the Tallgeese, a high grade would fit the bill for a more Anime-centric version. Secondly the real grade line may not be nearly as bad to get into as it was starting out, but I do feel there is a certain contingent of Wing fans who would be grateful to have the Tallgeese available in the more approachable HG line. I'm not one of those people, I'd rather they get Shenlong, Altron, Epyon, Deathscythe Hell, and every other OZ grunt suit out before the Tallgeese.

Actually the background story of Wufei has been altered / rewritten in the most recent manga series "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers". The new manga series gave Wufei a deeper thought personality and more complex character building. Wufei is shown to be a philosopher who thought that there is no such thing as absolute justice or injustice, or absolute right or wrong, only difference in points of view, so he was totally against fighting which (he thought) does not lead to any meaningful conclusion of conflict; Meilan in the opposite thought that those who hold powerful weapon that can take the lives of other people are by nature "unjust" and have to be eliminated while protecting the minority and weak people is by nature an "absolutely just act". The loss of Meilan changes Wufei's mind and personality forever; he became a fanatic fighter and does not hesitate to start a fight against those who are "unjust" (strong and powerful guys who can kill other people), so basically Meilan's soul has been "inherited" by Wufei and he dedicates the rest of his life to fulfill what Meilan didn"t have the chance to accomplish. Also, the loss of Meilan gave him so much grief that makes him believe that women and weak people should not fight because it could end up in disaster (in the new manga series, Meilan was KIA because of power depletion of her Mobile Suite and Wufei arrived too late to save her). Wufei is not misogynistic, he simply does not like the fact of unnecessary sacrifice by those who are unable to fight and win, of course Sally Po sort of changes his mind yet again but that's another story. The new character twist in the manga gave Wufei a much better character development and more complex personality, it could also explain why Wufei likes to act alone, because deep in his mind he does not trust those who hold strong powers, including his gundam pilot teammates. It also explains why he initially refuses to send his gundam into the sun like the others did but destroyed his only after all conflict ends and peace has been achieved everywhere. Finally, after EW he is the only gundam pilot that joins the Preventers, keeps fighting for what he / Meilan thinks as "absolute justice".

This is the kind of story I'd like to see expanded on and fleshed out more. As is, it feels more like an early draft of something that hasn't been fully realized. There's potential in the core ideas to make the character more interesting, but there's also a lot of rough edges in the details. If Wufei is going to take out Meiran in a single kick, for instance, set that up with maybe some complaint or maybe some mention that he had recently abandoned his martial arts training. If they went with the latter, that could also set up more of a foundational connection between Meiran and Wufei as having perhaps been students together. If Wufei had suddenly dropped that part of his life, it would give Meiran more incentive to be pushing him to make a difference. It would also help the story a lot if they actually explored Meiran's own motivations more. She clearly wants to make a difference in the world, but as is, we don't really know where that drive comes from. Exploring that more alone would do a ton to help her shine as a character in her own right and not just a prop to get fridged for Wufei's own development, and thus enriching the story as a whole by adding more dimension to it.

Be careful labeling someone a misogynist - Take a page from that same self story and follow the words of Master O; All you're doing is forcing your conclusion on someone else, you're not changing anything. Wufei took his defeats to heart several times over and changed his ways. He may be strict and condescending, but he did not hate women. You're boiling down their entire existence into a prejudiced and easy catch-all to dismiss or demonize anything they say or do. Those terms have been rendered nearly entirely useless, in large part due to overuse, but also because of too broad definitions that can define nearly anything 'racist' or 'misogynist', such as hospital staff giving a different dose due to physiological differences, acknowledging a physiological trait such as the majority of certain Asian populations who don't smell when they sweat or something as innocuous as holding a door open for a person who happened to be a woman. Someone who hears people say or see them do these things, will sometimes out of prejudice and ignorance label them as one or more of those words. Let's say there's a person who's a genuine hater of X, that they legitimately loathe a group based on prejudice. If you hate that person back, then you're the same and worse, you've changed nothing but add more hate to the world. I will play games with anyone, whether they're bigoted, racists, homophobes, communists, nazis or whatever and I will try to be good to them. I don't always manage to be nice to people, but I try and occasionally I'll change a little of their minds and they'll sheepishly admit that this or that was silly to say. You know who the hardest people to get to change their minds are? People who use labels against intolerant people. This is where I struggle, because most think that no one else can understand the holy wisdom of not being bigoted, when ironically that's what they themselves do. Calling something out as racist is just about the easiest thing you can do and most expect to be lauded for doing it. You know what's hard? Understanding and sympathizing with people. *Truly* putting yourself in their shoes and understanding why they have the views that they do. Sometimes that's true for someone who hates bigots, that they've known or seen someone bully, harrass or attack others out of hatred and so they assume anyone who holds a prejudiced and/or bigoted view is the same, but most often it's people who've maybe seen something like that once but otherwise only have second hand knowledge. You can CHOOSE to not run around and label people, casually calling them something horrible and that only puts you on the neutral path. If you want to do good, you'll do what you can to lessen the hate by talking to someone like that and not letting your own emotions dictate your reactions to what they believe in.

I understand plenty what it's like to be prejudiced against women and to be a bigot, as I am a man who was once a teen. I also understand that I'm judging a fictional character who is very condescending towards woman, so I don't see why you care when I call them out for what they are: sexist. He's not real, and I don't care about his fictional feelings on the matter. He reached this point the same way as every other bigot on the planet, by having their life experiences draw them towards a conclusion. Fact of the matter is that I can't change Wufei's mind because he isn't real and I'm not a writer, so I don't see the point of your whole argument. But Wufei took that experience and applied it to situations where women are forced to fight and aren't as disadvantaged. He ends up caring more about the fact that she's a woman than examining the situations case-by-case.

Even if you don't "need" it, there's a frightening amount of people who do, who are entirely tribalistic and inexperienced not just on the topic, but in life in general. Bigots don't crawl on their knees begging someone to help change their mind. You don't convince people by telling them they're wrong, you do it by being different from them and showing them what you believe and they'll come around to the conclusion themselves if you've been sufficiently kind and decent. "They don't want to change their mind" is an excuse. The reason you're seeing Wufei the way you are, is in part because you don't care about his feelings. You're not seeing where he is, who he is surrounded by or what his situation is. He's not being raised in the suburbs and taught by a progressive teacher - He's on a remote colony, surrounded by the remnants of an outcast mobster clan who fiercely want to fight against the injustice committed against them and is in an arranged marriage to someone who is not just weak in his eyes, but proven to be so by his own hands. On top of that, he's the heir to that clan and has a huge weight waiting to be placed on his shoulders and finally... he's a 14 year old child and has his principles more straight than almost any adult I've ever met. He's proud, he despises weakness and none more than his own, but he respects those who fight for themselves and fight well. Ignoring his age because this is fairly ridiculous fiction, that's a complicated person with a lot of things to worry about. And you expect him to see the world according to your norms. Wufei says childish things but his actions speak louder than his words and he treats people fairly and honorably. I don't know what your experiences with women are, especially outside the west, but there's more nuance and perspective that you're probably not considering. You can repeat that you don't care because he's fictional, but you're dismissing that there are people who feel a similar way, trapped in circumstances that aren't too different from that character. You can take it, or do as most and just leave it. Even if you don't like the rants I appreciate the opportunity to gather my thoughts on this.

Why is it a stretch that a bookworm can fight? You can learn nearly everything you need to know about fighting from reading, including the fact that you will still lose (badly) unless you combine that knowledge with training. His family would not have selected him as the consort to a woman from a clan with a strong warrior legacy if he wasn't able to match or exceed her skills, lest that be seen as an insult.

You would be resentful, too, if you were ripped from a place you loved (Meilan literally states that Fei's school was on Earth), shipped off to an ancient colony in L-5, and married off to a girl you'd never met before THAT DAY and are completely incompatible with just because the two of you were betrothed in the cradle.

I can relate, the place I grew up is no longer the same coz it's been politically destroyed and becoming socially and economically more unstable every single day. Worse than this story, the people don't have any military power nor any weapon to fight back. People are being culturally genocided as well as soon will be physically gonocided. Not even the US can do a thing about it. After all, it's the 2nd largest country with the 2nd largest economy and military power on this planet. The place I feel like home no longer exists on this planet and I feel like I don't belong anywhere. I feel lost. Guess my plan now is to live in a country I have no friend nor family, work till my body stops functioning, piss on the bed in a cheap retirement home and die without any dignity love ones around me. Oh joy, a video about Mr Melodrama himself. This ought to be rich. That aside, I DO have a counterargument to the sexism thing, one for Master O and Wufei respectively. For Master O, I think it's less sexism, and more a call to biological fact, despite what... certain actors online will tell you, men and women are biologically and thus physically different with women being more petit, having less bone density and lower maximum muscle mass compared to men. And keep in mind, piloting the Tallgeese for the first time broke Ottos ribs, and put Zechs in a hospital bed, so it's not a stretch to believe that for the(for lack of a better term) "softer" Meilin, piloting a Tallgeese would be paramount to suicide, and given she died due to, as YOU yourself stated Kakarot, the strain of piloting the Tallgeese catching up with her, one could argue that it WAS suicide. Being a scientist, it wouldn't be that out of the question that Master O would at least have a basic understanding of this, even if it wasn't his field of expertise. As for Wufei, I see it in 3 stages, Stage 1: Being a scholar at the time and clearly having a relation to Master O, it's not a stretch to think Wufei share the same knowledge on biology as Master O does, and thus was fully aware of the potential consequences piloting the Tallgeese would have on Meilin, even if she DID win the fight. Stage 2: Wufei, now piloting the Shenlong, Wufei is likely desperate to get Meilin off the battlefield and OUT of the Tallgeese before she succumbs to the strain, and the whole "wife should liten to husband" thing was more an outburst of frustration then anything. Yes Meilin was doing a good job piloting the Tallgeese, but here's the thing... SHE'S PILOTING A TALLGEESE! So I'd say his fear is justified. Stage 3: In the anime, Wufeis sexism is more likely a case of truama, after all the guy just saw his wife die as a consequence of piloting a mobile suit in battle(granted ramming the Leo with it probably didn't help much), so it makes sense he'd be adverse to the idea of women on the battlefield at all. He more then likely just doesn't want what he went through to happen again. Now, I'll be clear... Wufei, is a bit of a dick, no question. And this might come off as me making excuses for him, and maybe on some level it is... but these really are what I think about this stuff. Make of it what you will.

I had always assumed that each of the Gundam pilots had all been trained to some degree by the respective Gundam designer. If that was the case or at least elaborated on that would explain a bit. most of the episode zero stunts these kids pull a bit too far fetched, making them look more like the Justice League than mobile suit pilots.
