0:00-03:55 Introduction and symbolism of the Kalachakra 10-Fold Power Symbol
03:56-27:46 Mantra Chanting 108 Times beautifully.
The Kalachakra mantra, called the tenfold powerful one - and symbolized in the famous Kalachakra tenfold power symbol - collects all the qualities of Kalachakra and all the Buddhas into one chant. In mantra practice, the seed syllable sounds carry many layers of profound meaning and power. Among the most profound is Kalachakra's sacred syllables.All of these syllables are combined into one magnificent symbol, the Kalachkra Tenfold Powerful One. They are overlaid together into one symbol, but still separated by the symbolic colors.
FOR CHANTING: Generally, teachers advise it's fine, especially in these times of degeneration. The Dalai Lama does massive public events for this reason. The general guidance is that reciting is fine, but you may NOT self-generate or practice the meditative sadhana without empowerment and instruction. As a Highest Yoga Tantra, the empowerments have always been involved, but Kalu Rinpoche, Dalai Lama, and others have stated that the public exposition of this tantra is essential in this current degenerate age. For this reason, you see the mantra everywhere, and the Dalai Lama and other teachers offer it to large groups (which is unusual for Highest Yoga Tantras). However, be guided by your own teacher. Certainly, there is no doubt that self-genration (where you visualize yourself as Kalacharka) is not permitted without instruction.
His Emminence Garchen Rinpoche guides that the main requirement is Bodhichitta -- the intention to benefit other sentient beings.
Basically, you are making offerings and praise with this mantra -- it's not specifically an activity mantra. Most praise and offering mantras are fine. The meaning of the mantra is The first four syllables
The Om Ah Hum and Hoh, which stand for the body, speech and mind of the Buddhas are represented by three crowning symbols: the nada, disc and cresent.In this mantra, Om which is the white disc in the symbol at the top, stands for the body of all the Buddhas. Ah, which is red is symbolized by the crescent moon and stands for the Speech of all the Buddhas. Hum, which is the Blue nada or squiggle at the very top, stands for the Mind of all the Buddhas which also contains the essence of Hoh representing the wisdom of all the Buddhas.
Ham which is the large blue syllable in the symbol, stand for the enlightened body, speech and mind of Kalachakra. KShah which is the syllable of Vishvamata, the consort of Kalachakra is green and stands for the wisdom of Kalachakra and the wisdom activity of the mandala. Ma, which is red is the mandala palace. La, which is yellow, stands for the element of earth. Wa, which is white stands for the element of water. Ra, which is red is for the element of fire. Ya, which is black is the element of air. The complete mantra contains all of the aspects and elements of Kalachakra, who himself embodies all of the Buddhas.
Chant along now, the powerful mantra of Kalachakra Sahaja.
Oṃ āḥ hūṃ ho haṃ kṣa mala varaya hūṃ phaṭ

@@BuddhaWeekly Btw can you chant this mantra without empowerment/initiation?
@BuddhaWeekly
@BuddhaWeekly Жыл бұрын
Because it's widely available everywhere, due to broad and wide teaching. , it is generally fine -- although certainly best to ask your teacher. The general convention is that if you can attend public Pujas or even public empowerments (i.e. as a blessing, rather than with the intention of taking the deity as a Yidam -- and hundreds of thousands of people have over the years) then the mantra is not prohibited. Generally, though, you cannot visualize yourself as the deity if you do not have empowerment and transmission and teachings or if you do not keep samaya. You can visualize the deity in front of you and participate in puja, etc. NOTE: THIS IS FOR Enlightened deities - who are never dangerous. The mantras of any Enlightened Buddha cannot be considered risky or dangerous -- but, it can only be beneficial with teaching or guidance. By nature, compassionate Buddhas can bring no harm, only good. The main mantra prohibitions are on some non-Enlightened (or Worldly) deities who are sworn protectors of the Dharma but who are not themselves fully Enlightened. But, any Enlightened deity or Bodhisattva is compassionate and loving. Kalachakra is certainly enlightened, an ultimate form of Shakyamuni Buddha.

Do you mean how to chant it? Oṃ āḥ hūṃ ho haṃ kṣa mala varaya hūṃ phaṭ Most of those syllables are as they appear phonetically, but with the Sanskrit rules (below) this would sound more like: Om ah hum hoh ham k-sha mah lah vah rah yah hum p-het (when you see a ph it's not a "f" sound it's a puh huh (each letter pronounced) Here's a quick quide to pronouncing syllables in Sanskrit: Pronounce all the letters. c is always soft as in ‘churn’ ś or ṣ pronounce as in ‘sh’. ḥ softly echoes the preceding vowel (it Vowels are pronounced: a as in u in cut ā as in father i as in bit does not combine to make ch or sh sounds) v sounds close to w (but slightly harder, ī as in beet u as in put or foot ū as in brute e as in bay (e.g. deva) ai as in sigh o as in hope like “svwaha” ) kh, gh, ch, jh, th, dh, ph, bh: the h’s are pronounced so that th is a “t-h” aspirated sound rather than a “th” sound. (For instance phat is not “fat” it’s ‘p-hut’) If you meant the "meaning" or translation: The Om Ah Hum and Hoh, which stand for the body, speech and mind of the Buddhas are represented by three crowning symbols: the nada, disc and cresent.In this mantra, Om which is the white disc in the symbol at the top, stands for the body of all the Buddhas. KShah which is the syllable of Vishvamata, the consort of Kalachakra is green and stands for the wisdom of Kalachakra and the wisdom activity of the mandala. Ma, which is red is the mandala palace. @BuddhaWeekly

Kalachakra is the Highest Yoga Form of Shakyamuni Buddha. Highest Yoga Practices are more about final spiritual development. If you don't have empowerment, chanting the mantra isn't harmful, but it's aspirational ... or devotional like a prayer. In this case, for a home altar, it's probably best to place a Shakyamuni Buddha (or any Yidam you have empowerment for) and chant his mantra Om Muni Muni Mahamuni Shakyamuni Svaha. Or Tara's mantra if you are in need of help and activity. And so on. Kalachakra is really about higher spiritual meditations. It's a "can you" vs "should you" question. Can you, yes, according to several teachings (but be guided by your own teacher and lineage) -- if you have Bodhichitta (the aspiration to become Enlightened for the benefit of all beings.) Does it mean anything if you don't have lung of the mantra? It's really a prayer, rather than an empowered mantra (splitting hairs, I know, but with empowerment is instruction and you will be visualizing the Kalachakra in detail and engaging in various of the yogas). If you're working on devotional practice and merit, really it's best to place Shakyamuni Buddha (Kalachakra is no different from Shakyamuni -- it's just a more in-depth Yoga requiring 12 initations (eight outer and four exalted). It's meant to be progressive His Holiness the Dalai Lama is well known for his wonderful Kalachakra events, where thousands attend. Some people attend these just for the blessing, and some with the intention of practicing after initation. If you watch his teachings on KZbin, you'll connect more with Kalachakra. The idea of these is not to make your life complicated (12 dys of initiation may seem that way!) but to teach you step-by-step. If, for whatever reason, you do the eight outer, and never get to the stage of the four exalted initations, you've still learned a lot, generated merit and progressed for the benefit of sentient beings. So, without the actual 12 steps or initiations, you don't have the instruction. This really makes the mantra aspirational prayer -- you wish to attain initiation in future. It won't hurt you. You're praising Kalachakra, your offfering devotion and asking for future empowerment. But, if you have other practices, keep on those, that is the path. In more detail, here's the Dalai Lama (from his website, quoted from his last Kalachakra initation event: "The disciple should have experience of the three principal aspects of the Mahayana path: renunciation of samsara, bodhichitta, and understanding of emptiness. If the disciple has not actually experienced these, he or she should at least have intellectual familiarity with them and admiration for them. "The most important of the three aspects is bodhichitta, the primary motivation for taking the initiations. Lord Maitreya defined bodhichitta in his Abhisamayalankara: "Bodhichitta is the desire for true, perfect enlightenment for the sake of others". The general aim of tantric initiations is that through the initiations the guru ripens the disciple's psycho-physical continuum. Here "ripening" means empowering the disciple to practise the yoga of the generation process and the completion process. In particular, the Kalachakra initiations empower the disciple to practise the yoga of the Kalachakra tantra, and, ultimately, to achieve the state of Shri Kalachakra. "There are eleven Kalachakra initiations: seven initiations of "entering like a child", three "exalted" initiations, and one "most exalted" initiation. Disciples who are temporarily intent on just the worldly siddhis (magical or mystical accomplishments) are given only the seven lower initiations. Those who are mainly interested in the transcendental siddhi of buddhahood are given all eleven initiations. The first of the seven initiations of entering like a child is the water initiation. This is analagous to a mother washing her child immediately after its birth. The second initiation is the crown initiation that is analogous. to the binding of a child's hairlocks. The third, ribbon initiation is analogous to piercing a child's ears and arraying it with ornaments. The fourth initiation, the vajra and bell initiation, is analogous to a child laughing and talking. The fifth initiation is the discipline initiation, it is analogous to the child's enjoyment of the five desirable sense-objects. Sixth is the name initiation, analogous to the naming of the child. The seventh, and final, initiation of entering like a child is the mantra authorization initiation. "The three exalted initiations are as follows: the vase initiation is the gnosis of bliss and emptiness that arises from the disciple touching the consort's breasts. The secret initiation is the gnosis of bliss and emptiness that arises from the disciple savouring the bodhichitta, the wisdom-gnosis initiation..." www.dalailama.com/teachings/kalachakra-initiations Hope this helps. Yes but it's only slightly aspirated in there. You barely emphasize it. (It's sort of a "sh" sound but with a hardness at the tip (or front). You can just slightly, slightly hear it in his voice. It's the same with Kshitigarbha -- the k isn't too hard, it rolls a bit it the "sh" sound.
