In toki pona, every phrase has to rely on implied or situational meaning, just because of how restricted the lexicon is. The space for double meanings and other word play should be quite large, and the barrier to entry low. Perfect.

This is amazing! I love how much thought was put into this. I haven’t heard of Toki Pona until literally today, and found this cover in the process! The vocalist did a really good job, too! It really goes to show how fluid translation can be across multiple languages-the English, Japanese, Spanish, and even this version all word their lyrics differently yet still convey the same general themes and subject matter of the song, and do so well, in ways that sound natural and flow well with the meter. It sucks that the Internet normally gets angry or toxic whenever anything translation or localization-related is brought up, you know? There’s this mentality that if something isn’t worded exactly the way it is in Japanese, or the original language, it’s automatically bad or wrong or was a mistake of some kind, but that’s not always the case-and a lot of the time it’s just how translation of any kind works. And that’s not even taking into account localization at all. Also, agreed. Penny is certified best girl.

For the sections showing the lyrics and translations, what did you use to actually make the video? Is it simply a slide-program (like Powerpoint) and you exported it as a video to then edit in the other parts in another program?

Sp do the song lyrics change based on your subjective opinions and views of characters/places/things in the game, or do you just use the original writer's viewpoint? Also, is there a way to signal that "the following is not mine" for retelling a story and such?
@Tesseract_King

Retelling a story frequently uses a construction like "ona li toki e ni:" (they said this:)

You should seriously have some video or anything that explains this whole rhythm heaven situation. I watch you for the linguistics and I don't understand at all these types of videos, and all the rythm heaven games are on ancient consoles for decades ago, and while I would really like to be a part of this ~~cult~~ community I don't really know how to enter it.

it also can mean "because of", so in this context it's like "she made this because of you", "you are the reason she made this"

do people names start with "jan" all the time in Toki Pona? I noticed this when in the translation of "jan Peni" at 0:42, it still said "jan Peni"
@exclasen

it indicates that you're talking about a person, yeah. see also: jan Misali = [person] [mitch halley]

Yes, although occasionally people will (with varying degrees of seriousness) use a different head marker word. For example, in a more serious context I go by "jan Katapini" (person named Gav Daphne) but I really like robots, so my username on the TP discord server is "jan ilo Katapini" (machine-person named Gav Daphne). I've seen people use a ton of different head-markers!

So weird that there's a specific morpheme to indicate names, would make much more sense to me if it was something broader like an animate marker
@Tesseract_King
@Tesseract_King 2 жыл бұрын
@@ikbintom It's not a specific name marker, it's just the word for "person". Proper names in toki pona are always adjectives and thus always have to modify something -- jan Peni (the person named Penny) or ma Inli (the country called England) or waso Tuwiti (the bird named Tweety) or what have you. But jan and ma and waso are just the words for person and country and bird.
