YGM is perfectly right. The period of Sivaji, Kannadasan, MSV-VR, TMS combination was the golden age of Tamil cinema. I am a core fan of Sivaji. But one of my friends whom I met recently, when we were discussing about our mutual love of Sivaji's acting, said that Sivaji, for him, was his God. i was stunned to hear how high a pedestal my friend has kept Sivaji in his mind. Surprisingly, YGM also said of Sivaji as his God!!

Vaschand Mouli respect your opinion. But many would feel that the golden age of Tamil cinema would be Ilayaraja, Vaali/Vairamuthu, SPB, Chita, Kamal, Sridevi. If you compare the two eras, Vaali/Vairamuthu = KD, Kamal = Sivaji, Chitra slightly better than Susila but the biggest difference is SPB better than TMS and Ilayaraja better than everyone else. No disrespect to TMS, MSV, and TKR. I love them but they were less versatile to their 80s counterparts. Just my humble opinion.

OMG. You got it totally wrong. They appreciated TMS like anything. Kavingnyar, TSM, MSV, Sivaji yaarume oruvarukkoruvar selachavar illai nu than pesinargal. Oruvarai patri uyarthi pesumbozhuthu matroruvar thazhvathu iyalbu. Ivargale TMS pathi pesinal, Sivaj taazhndu thaan povar. Actually, my version i heard that Sivaji told MSV that TMS has sung that song with such a style that he needs a couple of days to work on his acting.
