I got a set of samson resolv a8's and they sounded just as good as other active monitors 2-3 times the price and i'm still using them 9 years later. These might be my next set.

Great video! Do the sound switches on the back hurt their flatness/neutrality? Adjusting for the room seems cool, but I'm afraid it could color the sound misleadingly.

I bought these a year a ( gen 1 ) in replacement of some shitty Yorkville entry level monitors. great bang for your buck, good sounding monitors. however, the white noise hiss was so loud that i couldn't look the other way. I brought them back and upgraded to Adams. If that white noise issue is actually fixed then these are the choice for anybody looking to get into studio/hobby recording without breaking the bank. I believe that issue may have something to due with the transformer.

No comparison to the IN series? Are the IN-6 worth $300 a pair more than the LP6v2 or $200 more than the LP8v2?

2 year late to the party but I hope you didn't buy the Yamaha (I own a pair of hs80 since 15 years) because their frequency response is basically "obsolete" today, with all the new monitors we have. They're "hard" and the high-mids are definitely too much. Not pleasant at all. I don't recommend to buy them in 2024.

Can already tell you as it's been covered many times elsewhere, the only real difference between 6 and 8 is volume. IMO, the 6's are better value and will cover just as much ground as the 8's. The difference in low end is negligible.

So I just got a pair of the original LP6, and they have a bit of noise coming through with no audio playing. Are you telling me that the second wave fixes the noise issue?

Use balanced connections if you aren't already. 1st gen hate unbalanced connections. If you aren't using RCA (nor should you) make sure RCA is turned off (dipswitches in the back #8).

Dammit I just bought what I found out were MKI LP-8's. Still sound fantastic for the price though. I get a tiny bit of hiss, and while it isn't a dealbreaker a more silent version would indeed be nice.

Use balanced connections if you aren't already. First gen Kalis don't like unbalanced connections and handle them worse than any monitor I've owned. Other than that, 1st gen is still awesome for the money (and slightly cheaper where you can still find them).

You don't want Studio Monitors to sound "Good", you want them to sound accurate. That being said, Kali's are fantastic for the $

I think what you’re saying is true but people often misinterpret it. The monitors I finally landed on after owning different pairs and trying everything is a pair of genelecs that a lot of people would consider “too good sounding”. But the reason they work for me is that they show me the mid range I need to hear (based on preference) so that I don’t eq too far in the mid range. Whether I’m on NS10’s genelecs or amphions I will eq my mid range until it sounds a certain way. If I do that on NS10s or amphions it means I’ve went way too far with cuts and the eq of the mix will be fucked. Now obviously NS10’s aren’t very accurate but people seem to call them that. That’s another topic tho. Initially it’s hard to recognize what monitors will be good for you and which won’t. That’s the hard part. I was against genelecs forever BECAUSE of their mid range. I was lead to believe that the mids had to sound gross and in your face for the monitors to be good and accurate and helpful. It was hilarious when I realized that these are perfect for me. But in the end it’s all just rambling because the genelecs are pretty damn flat according to the tech documents. But some people can’t stand to see that because they were told that the speakers have to sound like crap in order to get a good mix. My mixes have never been better since I got a pair of monitors that a lot of people (who don’t have gold records…) have called “too hi-fi” sounding.

I don't get it, just bought them. Without the sub, they sound so weak, bass is hardly audible, huge lack of mids, not loud at all. Tried all placements, all eq settings on the back, closer, further. Most of the mixes I love sound much worse than on anything else I listened them to. My shitty old Sony audio system speakers sound way better and I compare top grade mixes
