There is a simple form of that, and more effective. Hit the hand (nearly at the joint) and hit the neck. Kali is must be simple in combat context. The original forms are dangerous and not taught around the globe. "The best defense is the best offense" Arnis is for killing 🇵🇭

Logan Lo from Scenic Fights actually suggested this choke when they reviewed Donnie Yen's fight scene with Nicolas Tse where Donnie had a pipe against Nicolas' throat and was just muscling it out.

I can see the counter for this move in real time being a hip toss or a Single Leg Takedown I'm pretty sure a simple level change would likely be enough for an escape

Both moves would work, but you would address the strangle in neither. You'd just be asleep on the ground, instead of being choked unconscious on your feet.

Cuz this martial art isn't a sport! They are treating this as a sport and as time go by they start making shit up and start teaching scenarios that isn't possible. FMA is about disabling your opponent and sometimes literally go for the kill. Armies(our special forces) and some law enforcement use this martial art with machete, knife or just bare handed. Some legit self defence teachers includes this martial art when teaching self defense. So Kali Eskrima shouldn't be a sport it loses the purpose of the art in my humble opinion

Sport will give you assurance that you will be ok after the match and you have to follow certain rules and guidelines. But it's not about sport, it's about practicality.

The problem is I've seen actual stick fights in places like the Philippines and there is NO time for grabbing and twisting about. Hitting the other person is scary enough then all the cool Nightwing tricks that would never work in real life

I would absolutely invite anyone to try to make this work on me. Mechanically correct doesn't necessarily translate in applicable. This kinda stuff teaches students a lot. Mechanucs and movement. No doubt. But it's not teaching them a viable entry.

Unless you're studying the exact same martial art it will work and flawlessly might I add if you punch him in the face he can just work the weapon and crush your larynx not only that but if you're not studying the same martial artist him you're not going to know what to do after you get out of that choke because if he can choke you with his cane or a tree branch he can probably choke you with his hands

I don't know dude if somebody put a rear naked choke on you and you tapped because it was crushing your Adam's Apple you would still call it a choke not only that but I imagine that stick can compress really deep into his throat and given the rigidity of the object he's using I think that that very well might be enough pressure to crush his larynx and that is a choke because you need your larynx to Breathe

Technically he's not giving the stick to anybody he initially put himself in a position to disarm the guy and that's why he dropped it with no resistance after he dropped the stick due to being in not advantageous position the guy proceeds to move straight along the path he's already going on meaning there's no wasted movement directly to a choke and if you turn into the choke you still get your neck cranked so no matter what it's still lethal not only that but if you can get it over the Adam's apple you can Crush both their Adam's apple and their larynx and kill them
