Big help in my understanding in the tactical use of the florete. Thank you.

yeeeeiiiiii :-) florete! seeing someone doing it that is really good at it is so cool! :-D

Make sure you throw the first part of the florete hard to knock away an oncoming attack otherwise it could disrupt your follow through. Especially if your sparring partner or opponent has a longer ranged weapon. I guess think of it as similar to a parry.

Is the florete only diagonal or do you also call vertical, horizontal, upward, downward type motions the florete as well? So many styles with different lingo.

Florete looks like it is leftover from when the Spanish were using two edged infantry swords.
@kalicenter5 жыл бұрын
sopwithcamelus Florete is a Spanish term.
@sopwithcamelus5 жыл бұрын
@@kalicenter I had heard the Filipinos adopted some Spanish techniques. It looks very similar to what the ARMA folks study. You can definitely tell it was intended for double edged blades. Good stuff!

I'm still in the early stages of Kali training so my vocabulary may not be that great but, is a florete the same thing as the tirapilon (or twisted strike)?
@combatselfdefenseacademy60723 жыл бұрын
One thing about Kali is that different branches will use different terminology. Some techniques they use the same term and other techniques different. So this could be the same technique or different.

He is a Pekiti Tirsia Kali practitioner. This man should mention his background. He must honor his guro and the Brotherhood for teaching him the skills.
@combatselfdefenseacademy60723 жыл бұрын
Why should he have to mention his background in every video that he makes. I come to see the techniques that he is teaching to improve my knowledge, not to hear him regurgitate lineage.
@justingarcia50123 жыл бұрын
@@combatselfdefenseacademy6072 Every authentic teacher out there mentions where he came from, and that is called “respect” and “gratitude” to the lineage and especially to the teacher. And I have not yet encountered one of those videos where he mentions his background.
