Star wars and dune are just a cinematic inspirations. The movie is inspired from Kalki Purana, which is an ancient Indian text describing the last avatar of Lord Vishnu - kalki you will come at the end of Kali Yug to save the world. It is written that Ashwaththama, Kalkis guru played by amitab bacchan is waiting for Kalkis arrival for eons. He passes on all his knowledge to Kalki. Kakli then worships Lord shiva who blesses him with Devdatta - a horse and a parrot represented by the futuristic car and robot that talks with an fun attitude. When you get all these contexts it just gets 100X more amazing.

Episode 4 of the Skratch series 3. There is another video where they actually have prabhas riding the vehicle in real life.
