Great video but I always wanted to try a vegetarian version ...Finally today I succeeded. I used a combination of mung peas done as how you would dhal boiled right down then when cool blend and then I used toasted bread crumbs. I combined all of that and did as the shrimp was done here. I followed all the other steps and got a marvelous result....Thanks Real Nice Guyana. I can now keep enjoying Kalonji ... vegetarian style...

Excellent. You reminded me of my childhood with words like seel and lodha and bhunjo and nice twist of bhunjeying and karahi. loved the use of coconut and shrimp. in classical bhojpuri cooking we dont use it. So am going to try this Guyanese version.

I usually steam the Karela first then stuff them with shrimp, or boiled and fried, shredded saltfish; saltfish is usually dried salted Cod. I add onions, hot peppers, pimento, carrots, and red and green bell peppers. After stuffing, I put them on a baking tray placed under the broiler on high. When they're nice and browned I turn them over to brown the other side; I've never fried them. I must try your recipe though! Thank you for sharing it.

The steaming of the bitter melon in the coconut curry sauce is what makes this dish. Grilling the bitter melon gives it a different taste.

@skinnydee1886
@skinnydee1886 6 жыл бұрын
Hugette Watson If you're using the right kind of stone there are no fragments coming out and getting into your food. Fragments will only come out of the stone, ONLY if you're taking an axe and trying to chop it. If fragments were coming out and getting into the food, people would not have lived to one hundred plus years. I knew many old people with these stones who lived very long; the oldest one had lived to one hundred and six (106), years old! Do you think that you may live to even reach 100. I don't think that I would!
