You were soooo lucky to be able to train with Rickson. I agree; is mental!

IMO Rickson Gracie black belts are the smoothest most technical guys ever. Anyone who gets to train with Rickson or one of his black belts them is lucky.

Rickson Gracie is one of the most "underrated" fighters in MMA history. I think that his son Kron is also greatly underrated. I hear a lot of blow-hards talk about amateur wrestlers' dominance in grappling and MMA, but Kron can beat guys who outweigh him by a hundred pounds. Rickson was the same way in his prime.

My background is in the striking arts, but I do understand what it is to study with the best. I had already received my black belt at this one school, and I noticed another school had opened in town. As was my nature, I dropped by to see what they were like. On that first day, I was able to spar with two black belts; though not the main instructor. I was better than the first, but not the second. After that session the head instructor invited me to train there, and I decided to do that. A year later, I went back to my original school and dominated every person there that outranked me, including the head second Dan and a man that had just returned from Japan as a 3rd Dan who was much better than me a year before. Why? Because my new school was run by someone who not only knew how to fight with better technique, but most importantly, knew how to teach others to do so. The next year our school won the large city wide tournament, and my instructor and I finished one - two in the black belt sparring division.

@@Docinaplanebeing able to teach is definitely an art within itself. They know how to do it but teaching takes a different approach. I also suspect their teaching style changes over the years.

Bro, I think Dave is wrong. I have witnessed choreographed fight scene where the master destroys the less masterful foe (Neo vs Agent Smith at end of The Matrix) and it's beautiful. When Rickson fights it looks like that except it's real and there's no faking.

his dad taught him to hide all the Jiujitsu which is really judo.Renzo’s gym in New York a philosophy that he failed if his student isn’t three times better than him . taking over the world John Danaher gordan Ryan etc. etc. etc. he’s right about how gorgeous his Jiu Jitsu was in his prime. There’s a white belt and a black belt the black belt is for teaching. Good doesn’t get you a black belt teaching does and being a good person ethics morals values a big heart really being there for your students. Rolls side of the family all day long. Not the Hollywood side. Pretenders. Is jujitsu grows in the money train grows it’ll get watered down of course and be less street less self-defense. And the people that never were good teachers now that the money train is up and running with bullshit. Try to bring back the self-defense because they never taught from the heart in the first place. Yes I love the self-defense but what I said is true also

Man everybody says Rickson is soooooooooo good but there is no video evidence. People need to at least know how he beat guys in a more descriptive manner to learn more about what is humanly possible. He might be too good but you are making him God. Roger or Gordon would dismantle him imo

Roger has said Rickson is MUCH better than him. He isn't a "God" just the best at what he does. Also he is 62 years old with a blown out back. I'd certainly hope Gordon could make a good showing. Would you also like to find some of the old boxers from the 70's and put them against the current heavyweight champ?
